The Wives || A Nollywood YouTube Series
Keeping secrets from our partner is a sure recipe for problems in any relationship.
It could lead to telling one lie, then having to tell another lie to cover the first lie. Such secrecy leads to unnecessary suspicion and lack of trust and could cause feelings of betrayal from the ones secrets are being kept from. Besides It makes you wonder what other things they are hiding if they can't just be straight with you.
And the story begins, when Matthew, one of the main characters, is keeping an unnecessary secret from his wife, Moni.
Dear lovely Hiver, welcome! It's awesome to have your attention while I talk about the latest drama series I'm watching.
I started the YouTube series last week, and with seven episodes so far, I can't just wait to see where this story goes. What caught my attention right from the start was the dynamic of their stories. The actors who put in all their best to interpret their roles. And the overall production is so on point.
The Wives is a Nigerian YouTube series, one that explores the relationships of some Christian faith couples. The dynamic of their characters, their marriages, flaws, infidelity, toxicity, and everything in between. This series teaches many valuable lessons that we all can relate to in our world today. I guess this is why I'm so invested in this storyline.
Some of the notable characters
Harrison Harrison is that annoying, funny, and hilarious character. God forbid kind of a husband for Diman. He is controlling, insecure, and unsupportive. You already knew he is doing an excellent job with his character because he will never fail to get under your skin and will crack you up every time he appears on your screen.
Moni, one of the main characters, is a wife to Matthew who not only has to deal with going through a painful IVF treatment but also lacks adequate emotional support from her husband. Is this character flawless? Far from it. Moni has her own flaw in the marriage. I guess no one is perfect after all.
We have Matthew: Matthew This is another type of husband you don't want to have. He is secretive and doesn't communicate well when it matters, and all these led him to one unforgivable act: cheating on his fragile wife, who already has a lot on her plate to deal with.
Enitan, a special assistant to Moni, at the beginning of episode one, we all thought she was the bad guy, but in the end she turned out to be a sweet and lovely soul, but even at that, she has her own flaw to work on.
And we have Dinma, the innocent-looking housewife we all have pity for due to her circumstances until her other side begins to manifest. Is she a bad person or she is just a woman who is looking for love at the wrong place. I will leave you to be the judge of that as the series unfolds.
Some favorite scenes
There are a lot of scenes you will love, and they will stick with you for a long time. Some of that is somewhere in episode five when Harrison passed out courtesy of a slap from Matthew. The slap practically reset his brain to start reasoning like a normal person for the first time since the beginning of the drama. Like, I haven't seen a well-deserved slap like that in a while.
Some friends indeed
One of my favorite scenes is Moni having her group of friends around just when she needed them the most, like girl, that is a friendship goal right there. In our current world, to have friends who will stand by you at your lowest, when everything, every plan, goes south, is priceless. But then is having these friends around at that moment the best thing for her? Well, only time will tell as the story continues.
This series is engaging, interesting, entertaining, and sometimes hilarious 😂, but above all, it's packed with a lot of valuable lessons to learn from.
While I got entertained watching this series, I can't help but wonder about those families whose stories are similar to these ones, who are struggling to heal and rebuild what they have, and I pray that such hearts find the healing they seek, rebuild, and come out stronger.
Rating:
For me, The Wives isn't just an art of storytelling but an art of reality, so I give the whole crew 9/10.
