DESDE LA CÁMARA BLACKMAGIC - FROM BLACKMAGIC CAMERA (ESP/ ENG)

Hola hivers y artistas de la comunidad de Bellas Artes. Espero que todos estén excelentes. Les cuento, ya está llegando a su término este semestre en la UNEARTE, ésto evidentemente trae consigo muchísima actividad y tensión, por mi parte he tenido bastante estrés las últimas semanas ya que inscribí seis materias.

Hello hivers and artists of the Fine Arts community. I hope everyone is doing great. I tell you, this semester at UNEARTE is coming to an end, this obviously brings with it a lot of activity and tension, for my part I have had a lot of stress the last few weeks since I enrolled six subjects.

A pesar de todo el trabajo que implica inscribir tantas materias, la verdad me siento muy feliz cuando concluimos actividades complicadas, en este post comparto con ustedes mi experiencia como camara en un cortometraje para la universidad en el que me gustó bastante participar.

Despite all the work involved in enrolling so many subjects, I feel very happy when we conclude complicated activities. In this post I share with you my experience as a cameraman in a short film for the university in which I enjoyed participating.

Fué bastante interesante está experiencia, ya estamos todos bastante avanzados en la carrera así que en el set todo se desarrollo de manera bastante profesional, como siempre e inevitablemente hubo algunos detalles en la producción pero realmente el jefe de producción y su equipo pudo solucionar todo correctamente.

It was quite interesting this experience, we are all quite advanced in the career so on the set everything was developed in a very professional way, as always and inevitably there were some details in the production but really the production manager and his team were able to solve everything correctly.

Comenzamos la tarde, buscando los equipos necesarios para la pauta en plaza Caracas, de allí nos fuimos a la locación, un apartamento ubicado en Catia cerca de la estación plaza Sucre, llegamos y el departamento de arte estaba haciendo su trabajo, corrigiendo algunos detalles de utilería.

We started the afternoon, looking for the necessary equipment for the pattern in Plaza Caracas, from there we went to the location, an apartment located in Catia near Plaza Sucre station, we arrived and the art department was doing their work, correcting some props details.

Por mi parte estuve en el departamento de fotografía haciendo cámara y bastante feliz por trabajar con un equipo que no había tenido la oportunidad de manipular antes, está experiencia estuvo sin duda llena de aprendizaje para mí. Grabamos con una Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6k pro. Una camara con grandes cualidades en cuanto a calidad de imagen, está camara normalmente se utiliza en cine y publicidad. Está camara tiene dos isos nativos, nosotros estábamos trabajando con poquísima luz y esto fue un factor que jugó a favor para trabajar con un iso alto sin que la imagen se viera afectada. Conocer las cualidades del equipo es esencial para el proyecto.

For my part I was in the photography department making camera and quite happy to work with equipment that I had not had the opportunity to manipulate before, this experience was certainly full of learning for me. We shot with a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6k pro. A camera with great qualities in terms of image quality, this camera is normally used in film and advertising. This camera has two native isos, we were working with very little light and this was a factor that played in favor of working with a high iso without affecting the image. Knowing the qualities of the equipment is essential for the project.

Cómo camara mi comunicación más directa es con el director de fotografía quien está al pendiente de cada detalle, es mi obligación conocer de pies a cabeza el guión técnico (que específica cada plano según el movimiento, la angulación y el encuadre) me corresponde también cuidar la calidad de la imagen y por su puesto la adecuada configuración de equipo para que esto se logre.

As a cameraman my most direct communication is with the director of photography who is aware of every detail, it is my obligation to know from head to toe the technical script (which specifies each shot according to the movement, the angulation and the framing) it is also my responsibility to take care of the image quality and of course the proper configuration of equipment for this to be achieved.

En esta ocasión trabajamos con un lente canon 18 - 50 mm, esto de cierta forma fue un factor limitante ya que era un lente de fotografía y sin duda el foco aunque se realce manualmente es algo impreciso porque no se pueden marcas exactas en el lente según la distancia. Sin embargo pudo trabajar bien porque las puestas en escena no involucraban recorridos largos ni movimientos bruscos. Por otra parte es un objetivo poco luminoso (f3.5 - 5.6) por esta razón trabajamos con un ISO alto.

On this occasion we worked with a canon 18 - 50 mm lens, this was somewhat of a limiting factor since it was a photography lens and without a doubt the focus, although manually enhanced, is somewhat imprecise because it is not possible to make exact marks on the lens depending on the distance. However it was able to work well because the staging did not involve long distances or sudden movements. On the other hand it is a low light lens (f3.5 - 5.6) for this reason we worked with a high ISO.

Grabamos en una resolución de 2k y en el formato RAW que ofrece la Blackmagic con la mayor compresión 12:1. Se eligió está resolución y compresion porqué queríamos la mayor calidad pero el equipo donde se editaría tal vez no tendría la capacidad de trabajar fluidamente con una mayor resolución y menor compresión, así que para facilitar la postproducción siento que está fue la mejor elección.

We shot at 2k resolution and in the RAW format offered by the Blackmagic with the highest 12:1 compression. This resolution and compression was chosen because we wanted the highest quality but the equipment where it would be edited might not have the capacity to work smoothly with a higher resolution and lower compression, so for ease of post production I feel this was the best choice.

En cuanto a perfíl de color elegimos el film. Que en la Blackmagic es como si nos refirieramos al LOG, lo que pienso que es la mejor decisión si se quiere aprovechar al máximo toda la información en altas luces y sombras.

In terms of color profile we choose the film. Which on the Blackmagic is as if we were referring to the LOG, which I think is the best decision if you want to take full advantage of all the information in highlights and shadows.

Concluimos este rodaje a las 5:00 am ya que decidimos trabajar de noche por la disponibilidad de varios en el equipo, terminamos súper cansados pero bastante felices por el resultado.

We finished this shoot at 5:00 am since we decided to work at night due to the availability of several members of the team, we ended up super tired but quite happy with the result.
