Hello movie lovers! This is my first post in the Movies & TV Shows community! 🎥

I remember checking this community 1-2 months ago when I was watching lots of movies and felt like sharing my thoughts on these but somehow I always postponed the moment when I will write my first review here doing lots of research about how people create these posts and what the rules are.

Happily, today is the day when I'll break the ice and write about a movie that I've seen a while ago entitled The Little Things but which remained in my mind and I would gladly see it again anytime.

Introduction

The Little Things was released in 2021 and it's produced, written and directed by Mark Johnson and John Lee Hancock who brought Denzel Washington, Rami Malek, and Jared Leto as the main actors of the movie.

This is an American neo-noir crime thriller film that is based on the investigations made by two detectives (Denzel Washington and Rami Malek) who become part of a long string of murders, that sooner or later will lead to a strange loner who may be the culprit, Jared Leto.

Even if it's a 2021 movie, the film was originally written in 1993 with various titles attached to it but it was abandoned due to the explicit content, until 2019 when it's been revitalized and the proper filming began.

Description

The movie starts with Sofia Vassilieva as Tina Salvatore who is driving home on a highway when she notices that it's being followed by a man. There are a few moments when she is either overtaken by the car or she overtakes the driver until she decides to stop in a gas station where she manages to escape asking for help from a passing truck driver.

Not long after that scene we'll have the first main actor being introduced to the movie, Denzel Washington as Joe 'Deke' Deacon who is basically a sheriff that comes from L.A to collect evidence pertaining to a recent murder in town.

While there will be lots of ups and downs trying to figure out who the criminal is, more and more murders will occur where most of them has something in common and hence why you will find out that we can discuss about a serial killer who definitely does its job very well.

Source

When everything seems like becoming an impossible job to find who the criminal is, Rami Malek as Jim Baxter is introduced to the film which is part of the FBI team that you can easily figure out it has been a very successful detective in his past investigations. He is going to pay attention on certain things at the crime scenes that the sheriff was missing, but he also tends no to be too focused on what the sheriff always tries to point out, making a pretty bad team.

Source

However, after way too many murders and having both of the detectives getting involved, they soon will have a prime suspect which is Jared Leto as Albert Sparma that is an eccentric repairman who seems like having a fascination with seeing dead bodies but while everyone is focused on trying to catch him because there were no proofs that he could be the criminal or not, Sparma quickly turns the tables on the sheriff.

Opinions

Jared Leto is also the main reason I decided to watch this movie because since I was a kid I was a big fan of the Thirty Seconds to Mars where he along with his brother and another member form a rock band that perhaps many of you heard about. I'm happy though to see him getting involved more and more in the world of movies because he definitely knows how to transpose himself from one character to another.

In a top made by screenrant.com regarding to the rank of intelligence occupied by the main actors of The Little Things, Jared Leto was on the first place which isn't really a surprise considering how smart he's playing his role of both an innocent creep and a possible cold-blooded killer that has a passion for seeing pictures of dead bodies.

In plus, I remember a statement given by Jared Leto where he said he will refuse all the roles for dark characters from now on after he played in Suicide Squad and Morbius but somehow playing as Albert Sparma made him change his mind and I'm happy he did because I couldn't see a better actor in that role.

Anyway, what I really appreciated at this movie is that it's not one of those thriller and mystery films that will keep your attention until you find out who the criminal is because the movie was created in such a way that you'll remain with lots of questions as soon as the movie ends.

Basically, there are no answers regarding who the criminal is because as soon as everyone thinks the riddle was solved, some new twists appear which leave you very confused. This aspect led to mixed opinions and reviews on whether it's a good movie or not, but personally I think that all the 128 minutes of the film are worth being watched especially if you are a fan of the criminal genre of movies.

Also, the movie looks stunning with all the cinematography and editing along with the acting that I can't complain about. Of course, we are talking about mainly professionals but I think Jared Leto really did a great job with his bizarre behaviour that make the police fall deeper into the rabbit hole they literally dug for themselves.

Conclusions

The Little Things is a movie with a lot of twists where perhaps only the little things will help you solve the riddle, but I guess you have to watch it for a few times before being 100% sure on your guess about who the criminal is.

The film can be both enjoyable and boring depending how patient you are to analyze all the situations and steps of the movie. However, if you manage to watch it till the end you will definitely see that was worth your time.

We are talking about a thriller and criminal genre of movie, so the action is quite repetitive with all the murders discovered and the lots of questions that pop up in everyone's head but with way too few answers to them, but there is no doubt that the movie was created by some smart people who made the best picks in terms of the main actors featured who are also Oscar winners.

I usually don't like the movies which don't have a proper ending but talking about a film that basically describes what the life of a detective looks like, I think this was created pretty fair thinking that not all the cases are solved and some of them might take even a few years until they get some answers.

Here's the official trailer of the movie that might help you get a better idea of what's everything about. I personally watched the movie on HBO Max where it's available in 4K but it can also be found online.

Have you seen "The Little Things"?

And if so, what do you think about it? Who do you believe the criminal was?

I remember checking this community 1-2 months ago when I was watching lots of movies and felt like sharing my thoughts on these but somehow I always postponed the moment when I will write my first review here doing lots of research about how people create these posts and what the rules are.

Welcome to the community! Our rules are pretty simple, so you shouldn't have any issues here. You can write about anything providing it's related to the world of movies and tv shows (documentaries and such obviously included). If you do have any questions, you can either tag me whenever here with them or you can hop into the Discord server. Again though: I don't think you'll run into any issues at all!

I look forward to seeing more of your posts! :)

Thank you so much for the warm welcome and kinds words. I did read all the rules I found both in the posts, in the community bio and the discord channel so I think there won't be any problems unless there will be made some sort of update to the list of rules and miss it by mistake.

But I'll definitely write more reviews here. It's a really beautiful community and I'm happy to finally be part of it :)

When I chose this movie to watch I had no idea I'd be so good, DW is amazing as he always is, but, Ramy's performance here is impeccable! I really enjoyed your review!

avatar

Oh Rami definitely did a good job. But yeah, I think it's the easiest to see professionalism at Denzel out of all 3 main actors. I would say that it was a whole perfect package of actors for "The Little Things".

However, I enjoyed every scene and how they all were acting so I regret no minute watching it :)

Thank you for stopping by and for the kind words! Hope you have a nice day!

You're welcome, yes, only once, all Denzel's movies are good, they are my style, the plot is classic, real, it doesn't reach the extreme of others that are forced to use some effect and other things to please, why?
