For me, post-apocalyptic worlds are not very appealing, but I do love the unfolding of his blindness and the divine intervention that ended up being the motive of this journey.

Well, everyone has their own tastes. And yes, the blindness was unexpected in the ending, but I think the "divine intervention" part was unnecessary.
