Particularmente soy bastante fan de esta obra literaria y también de la película que salió hace unos años y la verdad cuando me enteré que había una serie de televisión que estaba por salir sobre la novela de comago para chocolates me emocioné bastante porque a diferencia de la película que a mi consideración es perfecta la ventaja de que sea una serie de televisiones que tiene mucho más tiempo para desarrollar la historia con toda la calma que se merece, pero la verdad no resultó como esperaba porque la misma serie tiene muchos cambios en comparación a la novela y la película, Y la verdad es que muchos de estos cambios se sienten extendidos artificialmente no se siente que realmente estés viendo algo entretenido o que realmente termine de gustarte simplemente sientes que estás viendo horas extras de una historia que pudo haber sido mucho más corta.

Personally, I’m a big fan of this book and also of the movie that came out a few years ago. And honestly, when I found out there was a TV series based on the novel Comago para Chocolates about to come out, I got really excited because—unlike the movie, which I consider perfect—the advantage of a TV series is that it has much more time to develop the story at the leisurely pace it deserves, but honestly, it didn’t turn out as I expected because the series itself has many changes compared to the novel and the movie. And the truth is that many of these changes feel artificially drawn out—it doesn’t feel like you’re really watching something entertaining or that you’ll actually end up liking it; you just feel like you’re watching extra hours of a story that could have been much shorter.

Y ese es el punto esta novela literaria no es especialmente un libro muy grande la verdad, y al haber extendido esta serie en dos temporadas la verdad se siente demasiado fácilmente por haber cubierto toda la historia con ocho episodios o seis episodios simplemente pero extendieron muchos puntos de la historia omitieron otras cosas que realmente son importantes para el realismo mágico que tanto enriquece a esta historia, A diferencia de la adaptación de 100 años de soledad la serie realizada por Netflix que hasta ahora en su primera temporada es bellísima esta serie no consigue hacer lo mismo la verdad es que es una pésima adaptación incluso el personaje de tita, se vuelve repentinamente mucho más absurdo con las decisiones que toma no es que en la novela no tomaran ciertas decisiones cuestionables pero están justificadas por la época pero por momentos esta serie busca de estar en la época en la que está ubicada eso se entiende pero por momentos busca de ser demasiado actual con ciertas cosas incluso empatizar la relación romántica de Pedro y Tita la cual en estas series se siente mucho más tóxica y sin sentido que en la novela, la verdad es que esta serie consiguió siendo muy sinceramente decepcionarme totalmente la primera temporada es muy disfrutable excepto cuando llegamos al final de temporada el cual se vuelve la verdad es que irreparable la relación de ella con mamá Elena, porque esta mujer en esta serie hace cosas todavía más cuestionables de las que podía ser en el libro, y muchas de las decisiones que termina tomando tita especialmente con el final que está completamente cambiado en comparación a la película la novela La verdad es que no no consigue llegar del todo al punto que me costó terminar de ver la segunda temporada.

And that’s the point: this literary novel isn’t actually a very long book, and by stretching this series out over two seasons, it honestly feels too rushed—they could have easily covered the entire story in just eight or six episodes. Instead, they dragged out many parts of the story and omitted other elements that are truly essential to the magical realism that so enriches this tale. Unlike the adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude, the Netflix series—which, so far in its first season, is absolutely beautiful—this series fails to achieve the same. The truth is that it’s a terrible adaptation, including the character of Tita, She suddenly becomes much more absurd with the decisions she makes. It’s not that certain questionable decisions weren’t made in the novel—they’re justified by the era—but at times this series tries to stay true to the era in which it’s set, which is understandable, yet at other times it tries to be too modern with certain elements, including the romantic relationship between Pedro and Tita, which in this series feels much more toxic and nonsensical than in the novel. The truth is that this series managed to, quite frankly, totally disappoint me. The first season is very enjoyable except when we reach the season finale, which makes her relationship with Mama Elena truly irreparable, because this woman in the series does things that are even more questionable than she could have been in the book, and many of the decisions Tita ends up making—especially with the ending, which is completely different from the movie and the novel—the truth is, it just doesn’t quite hit the mark, and I had a hard time finishing the second season.

La verdad es que si son fan de la novela literaria si les encanta muchísimo la película que salió hace años quédense con ella y no se molesten en ver esta serie La verdad es que yo mismo como espectador y conocedora de la misma la verdad es que no la recomiendo para nada porque incluso muchos cambios a nivel estético se sienten la verdad es que muy mal hechos, porque le quitas mucha esencia a algunos personajes y le quieres añadir atribuciones a personajes como Pedro que sí entiendo que sea el protagonista pero ahora le das un aire de revolucionario que nunca estuvo la novela La verdad es que la novela nunca tuvo ningún tinte político A lo mejor lo tocaba ligeramente pero en esta dos temporadas la verdad es que lo tocan de manera que por momentos se vuelve fastidioso al punto que si tú reduces toda esta cantidad de horas que invirtieron para hacer toda la trama revolucionaria Me atrevo a decir que le quitarías casi cinco episodios del total de 12 que tiene esta serie por eso debo decir que miren no le recomiendo para nada si la quieren ver como una curiosidad está bien pero debes estar preparados porque cambia muchísimas cosas de la trama incluso tuvo la oportunidad de verlo con una persona que para nada visto la película para nada salió la novela y sí me dijo que por momentos se le nota los momentos que está extendida artificialmente que se vuelve incluso aburrida la trama por eso es que a mi consideración esta serie solamente le puedo dar un cuadro de 10 por ser una pésima adaptación.

The truth is, if you're a fan of the novel and you absolutely love the movie that came out years ago, stick with that and don't bother watching this series. The truth is, as a viewer and someone familiar with the source material, I really don't recommend it at all because even many of the visual changes feel, quite frankly, very poorly executed, because it strips away a lot of the essence of some characters and tries to add traits to characters like Pedro—who I understand is the protagonist—but now gives him a revolutionary air that was never in the novel. The truth is, the novel never had any political undertones. Maybe it touched on it lightly, but in these two seasons, they really push it to the point where it gets annoying at times—so much so that if you cut out all the hours they spent create the entire revolutionary plot, I’d dare say you’d cut out almost five episodes from the series’ total of 12. That’s why I have to say: look, I don’t recommend it at all. If you want to watch it out of curiosity, fine, but you should be prepared because it changes so many things in the plot. I even had the chance to watch it with someone who hadn’t seen the movie or the original series at all, and they told me that at times you can tell the moments it’s artificially stretched out, and the plot even gets boring. That’s why, in my opinion, I can only give this series a 1 out of 10 for being a terrible adaptation.
