Mystic River...... Review.
In this very gripping act, I kept asking myself if this really happened and if life could be this unfair to one man. A very intense drama which revolves around three childhood friends. The Mystic River is a film directed by Clint Eastwood (2003) and Stars Sean Penn who played Jimmy Markum, Tim Robbins as Dave Boyle, and Kevin Bacon as Sean Devine.
The plot overview;
In Boston, in 1970s, the three childhood friends while playing hockey in the street were thrown into confusion when one of them, Dave (Tim Robbins)was abducted by some men posing as police officers. While in abduction, he was subjected to physical and sexual abuse, and though he managed to escape several days later, he never remained the same. He was left with deep emotional scars.
Years later they're all grown up but their relationship was fractured, it never felt the same. While Jimmy was an ex-convict with a family and a daughter aged 19 from a previous marriage, Sean becomes a homicide detective but Dave still struggled with the emotional trauma of his abduction.
Their lives collide again when Jimmy's daughter, Katie, is murdered as she sneaks out for a night party. Devastated, he became desperate to find her killers.
Sean, the homicide detective was assigned to the case.
Dave had returned home that same night with bloodied clothes, making him a prime suspect and then Jimmy abducts him with the help of some thugs and there was a confrontation at the Mystic River.
At the climax, a heartbreaking and heart-rending climax, Jimmy murders Dave believing him guilty of his daughter's murder and dumps his body in the Mystic River.
When the truth was revealed the next day by Sean, it wasn't Dave who murdered Katie—dead Dave was innocent.
My review;
A very haunting movie which made me realize how much emotional trauma could trail a fractured childhood and then tragic misunderstandings that could destroy lives. It’s gripping but heavy movie, it lingers in your mind long after it ends. It makes you whimper and wonder at the intricacies of this life and though thrilling, it doesn't make you feel good at all.
It's a star-studded cast and Sean Penn, Jimmy delivered an award winning performance. Great cinema, great cast, just straight to the point delivery.
I'm rating it a 9/10.
I always appreciate your comments and support.
9/10? That’s really a high rating and with your review, I don’t even doubt it. I like it when movies just go strait to the point and I definitely will put this on my list.
Thanks for your review. I think I saw this a long time ago but I should watch it again.
