[ESP-ING] "The medium" : ¿es realmente una joya del cine de terror? 🍿

Hace unos días estaba buscando una película para ver, quería algo como de suspenso o terror para pasar el rato pero que no fuera tan mala jajaja, y me encontré con una recomendación de un film que estuvo muy sonado hace ya unos cuantos meses y que al verlo me sorprendió un poco, les hablo de:
A few days ago I was looking for a movie to watch, I wanted something like suspense or horror to pass the time but not so bad hahaha, and I came across a recommendation of a film that was very sound a few months ago and that when I saw it surprised me a little, I'm talking about:

| Este film en formato de documental cuenta la historia sobre el chamanismo y la herencia que tiene en una familia en Tailandia, pero todo se convierte en una pesadilla cuando una de las integrantes de la familia empieza a experimentar diferentes síntomas que describen como el inicio para convertirse en médium, aunque esto no es del todo cierto y pronto empiezan a darse cuenta que hay algo más consumiendo su vida. | This documentary film tells the story of shamanism and the heritage it has in a family in Thailand, but everything turns into a nightmare when one of the family members begins to experience different symptoms that are described as the beginning of becoming a medium, although this is not entirely true and soon they begin to realize that there is something else consuming her life. |

| En una localidad rural un grupo de documentalistas quieren registrar la vida cotidiana de una médium o chamán de la comunidad, Nim (la médium), revela que está poseída por el espíritu de la diosa Bayan, a quién los aldeanos rinden culto y ofrecen sacrificios. Nim cuenta la historia de cómo las mujeres de su familia han sido poseídas por este espíritu y cómo su hermana decidió convertirse al cristianismo y quedarse fuera de este ciclo. | In a rural village, a group of documentary filmmakers want to record the daily life of a community medium or shaman, Nim (the medium), who reveals that she is possessed by the spirit of the goddess Bayan, to whom the villagers worship and offer sacrifices. Nim tells the story of how the women in her family have been possessed by this spirit and how her sister decided to convert to Christianity and stay out of this cycle. |

| Debido a esto, la vida de su hermana ha sido una completa tragedia, y todos se han visto afectados incluso uno de sus hijos que perdió la vida. Por lo que sólo le queda una hija llamada Mink, una joven trabajadora, que asistía a la iglesia, participaba en obras comunitarias y era muy amable. Pero luego de un tiempo el equipo del documental y su familia empezó a notar comportamientos extraños por lo que deciden grabarla y observar cómo decae su estabilidad mental, al punto de dejar su trabajo, dejar de asearse, deja de comer y entra en trance en ciertas ocasiones. | Because of this, her sister's life has been a complete tragedy, and everyone has been affected including one of her sons who lost his life. So she is left with only one daughter named Mink, a hard-working young woman, who attended church, participated in community work and was very kind. | Todo estalla cuando Mink escapa de casa y es cuando su madre decide llamar a su hermana Nim ya que sentía que su hija estaba pagando sus pecados por esta negarse a ser una médium. Nim sospecha que lo que está detrás de su sobrina es algo más fuerte y malvado y decide realizar una ceremonia para deshacerse de este ente, pero al no completarla y darse cuenta de que la estatua de la diosa Bayan fue destruida todo empieza a desmoronarse. | Everything explodes when Mink runs away from home and it is when her mother decides to call her sister Nim as she felt that her daughter was paying for her sins by refusing to be a medium. Nim suspects that what is behind her niece is something stronger and more evil and decides to perform a ceremony to get rid of this entity, but when she fails to complete it and realizes that the statue of the goddess Bayan was destroyed everything starts to fall apart. |

🎬 Lo bueno y lo malo | The good and the bad
| Lo que me sorprendió de este film es que a pesar de ser de terror me hizo reír en varias ocasiones jajaja, y no porque no me tomara en serio la situación, sino por cómo desarrollaron algunas situaciones, no sé porqué la consideran una de las mejores de ese año sinceramente, y disculpen tal vez mi ignorancia por no entender las razones, pero me resulta difícil de creer que este film sea uno de los mejores. A muy pocas películas les ha funcionado este formato de documental y está no es una de ellas. | What surprised me about this film is that despite being a horror film it made me laugh on several occasions hahaha, and not because I did not take the situation seriously, but because of how they developed some situations, I do not know why they consider it one of the best of that year sincerely, and excuse my ignorance for not understanding the reasons, but I find it hard to believe that this film is one of the best. Very few films have worked with this documentary format and this is not one of them. |

| El trabajo de la fotografía me pareció muy bueno, lograron destacar todas esas partes tan bonitas de Tailandia, las actuaciones por parte de todos los involucrados fueron buenas, debo destacar el trabajo de la chica Mink porque de verdad parecía mal mal, y también, la trama de por sí era un poco interesante al contarnos la historia de cómo toman en esas pequeñas localidades a los dioses y el hecho de que aún existan chamanes, que me parece mucho mejor abordar ese tipo de historias que inventar fantasmas y espíritus para darle el toque de terror a un film. | I thought the photography work was very good, they managed to highlight all those beautiful parts of Thailand, the performances by all involved were good, I must highlight the work of the Mink girl because she really looked bad, and also, the plot itself was a bit interesting telling us the story of how they take in those small towns the gods and the fact that there are still shamans, which seems to me much better to address that kind of stories than inventing ghosts and spirits to give a touch of terror to a film. |

| Esta película tuvo algunos problemas, el primero de ellos fue la falta de credibilidad y que la trama fue muy forzada en ciertas ocasiones. El segundo sería las falsas expectativas , que si bien no debería influir en el espectador, si lo hace, y al no ser esa película que pintaron que sería la más aterradora y tenía que verse con las luces prendidas por lo fuerte que era, la decepción fue más grande. El tercero es lo plana que terminó siendo, hablamos de que pudo haber sido una gran película, que nunca tomó forma ya que no lo supieron desarrollar. | This movie had some problems, the first of them was the lack of credibility and that the plot was very forced in certain occasions. The second would be the false expectations, that although it should not influence the viewer, it does, and not being that movie that they painted that it would be the scariest and had to be seen with the lights on because of how strong it was, the disappointment was bigger. The third is how flat it ended up being, we talk about what could have been a great movie that never took shape because they didn't know how to develop it. |

| El principal defecto no fue la duración, fue la cantidad de cosas absurdas que pasaron como el que los documentalistas no pudieran ni intervenir ni moverse para dar soporte al formato de documental y que simplemente no tenían sentido, y que perdieron el sentido de veracidad y credibilidad (nuevamente lo menciono). ¿Me parece la peor?, para nada, como les dije me reí bastante jajaja, y me gustó que el final fuera algo inesperado digámoslo así, pero siento que pudo haber sido muchísimo mejor. | The main flaw was not the length, it was the amount of absurd things that happened, such as the fact that the documentary makers could not intervene or move to support the documentary format and that simply did not make sense, and lost the sense of veracity and credibility (I mention it again). Do I think it was the worst, not at all, as I said I laughed a lot hahaha, and I liked that the ending was something unexpected let's say so, but I feel that it could have been much better. |
| Supongo que pasará a ser de esas tantas películas que pudieron haber sido mejores pero se quedaron a medio camino. Pero bueno amigos, estaré viendo otras cosas y dándoles mi opinión. Nos estamos leyendo. | I guess it will go down as one of those many movies that could have been better but fell by the wayside. But hey folks, I'll be watching other things and giving you my opinion. He querido ver esta película, pero he leído algunas críticas que no son favorables y es que originalmente pensaba que quien dirigió y escribió un film Surcoreano de terror llamado "The Wailing" (el cual le recomiendo ver), también dirigió The Medium, pero veo que no es así, solo cumplió la función de co escribír el guion.
Voy a darle una oportunidad y en estos días la voy a ver.
Hay opiniones divididas, pero no te dejes llevar por los que dicen que es la mejor película de ese año porque no es así jajaja, pero si llegas a verla me gustaría ver tus opiniones al respecto. Saludos 🤩
Hola amiga, esta es la primera vez que veo y escucho de esta producción y sobre todo me sorprende que sea tailandesa, la cual está trabajando para siempre mostrar producciones de calidad. Este tipo de películas no es mi estilo, nunca me ha llamado la atención eso de estar poseído y ese pequeño terror que están presenten en la misma. Esta que nos compartes, se ve interesante, así que la voy a buscar para ver qué tal me ve. Gracias por compartirlo con nosotros.
Te puedo asegurar que no te asustarás durante la película amigo jajaja, lo que sí es que es un poco larga pero podrías darle la oportunidad si quieres probar otros géneros. Muchas gracias por tu comentario 🤩
No la he visto, ni sabía de su existencia! Este fin de semana la veré, me interesan mucho las películas con cosas paranormales/religiosas con suspenso/terror!

La vi hace un tiempo y me gustó, sigue la misma linea de películas como REC, con ese estilo particular de dirigir y filmar; dejándonos escenas más realistas y situaciones que te ponen los pelos de punto. Este director tiene otra película que es muy parecida, que no recuerdo en este momento y no he visto, pero dicen que es muy buena.
Realmente creo que no he visto más películas de este director, pero que genial que disfrutaras la película. Saludos!
La vi y aunque la verdad si me sacó unos cuantos sustos, considero que no es muy buena que digamos.
Lamentablemente, alrededor de estas películas de crea mucha expectativa, nos las venden como la película más terrorífica del año o de los últimos tiempos y termina siendo una tontería.
Ojalá pronto puedas ver una que sí valga la pena y te quite el mal sabor de boca que te dejó esta.
