It’s been a whirlwind since spring, with everything piling up and getting delayed, but lately, I’ve finally started to feel like I’m getting my own time back. This spring, my boys started elementary and junior high school, respectively. Getting used to each school’s rules and rhythm took some time, and just when I thought we’d finally settled in, next Friday is already the end-of-term ceremony for the first semester!

Time has flown by so fast it’s honestly shocking😱😱

Today was one of those rare days with no plans (I love “no-plans” days), and since I had some time to relax, I thought, “Let’s get back to the Beer Saturday!!” 🍻

My husband took care of dinner by ordering delivery from Burger King, and while waiting for it to arrive, I popped out to grab some beer. I went with just one can of Sapporo Lager Beer today—because past experience has taught me that two cans or more leave me completely useless afterward😅

The retro-colored can was so cute, I picked it without hesitation.

Sapporo Lager Beer, dating back to 1877 when it was first brewed by the Kaitakushi Beer Brewery (the predecessor to Sapporo Breweries), is Japan’s oldest beer brand. It’s affectionately called “Red Star” because of its iconic label.While most beers from Japan’s major breweries are “draft” beers, Sapporo Lager is a “heat-treated” beer. This means it’s made by heating the beer to stop the yeast’s activity, which supposedly creates a “robust, full-bodied flavor.” Honestly, though, I couldn’t quite tell the difference...😅

Beer calls for a movie, right?

So, I fired up U-NEXT and played "Tremors", which had been sitting in my watchlist. Apparently nicknamed “Jaws on land,” this movie had my boys (especially the younger one) completely hooked on the desert monsters.

Me? I was just thrilled to see Kevin Bacon in a non-villain role for the first time—it felt fresh and got me all excited. It’s not my usual type of movie, but I really enjoyed it. Riding the Kevin Bacon wave, we watched "The River Wild" next. I remembered it being fun from watching it on TV over 20 years ago, and revisiting it didn’t disappoint—it was just as good. The boys were totally engrossed, too.

On a side note, we often watch movies on streaming services at home, so the kids have no problem sitting through a couple of films back-to-back. I have a feeling movies will always be a shared family hobby for us. A night spent chilling with beer, burgers, and movies was pure bliss.

I’m already thinking I need to make time for this kind of evening at least once a week!

春先からずっとバタバタしていて、色々なことが滞っていた私ですが、このところやっと自分の時間が戻ってきたように感じています。

この春、息子たちがそれぞれ小学校と中学校に入学しました。それぞれの学校のルールやペースに慣れるのに時間がかかり、やっと順応できたと思ったら、来週の金曜日はもう一学期の終業式！あっという間すぎて、時間の流れにびっくりしています。

今日は珍しくなんの予定もない日で（「予定がない日」が私は大好きです）ゆっくりする時間がありそうだったので、「そうだ、BeerSaturdayに復帰しよう！」と思い立ちました。

食べるものは夫がバーガーキングでデリバリーしてくれることになり、届くのを待つ間にビールを買いに出かけました。今日は「サッポロラガービール」1缶だけ。これまでの経験から、2缶以上飲むとその後何もできなくなってしまうことがわかっているので…。レトロな色合いの缶が可愛くて即決でした。

サッポロラガービールは、1877年にサッポロビールの前身である開拓使麦酒醸造所から発売されて以来、脈々と受け継がれてきた日本で最も歴史あるビールブランドです。そのラベルから「赤星」と呼ばれているとか。

日本の大手メーカーが販売しているビールはほとんどが「生ビール」ですが、サッポロラガービールは「熱処理ビール」です。「熱処理ビール」とは、加熱することで酵母の働きを止める方法で作られたビールのことで、この製法により「しっかりとした厚みのある味わい」が生まれるとのことですが、、、正直なところ、私には違いがよく分かりませんでした（ゴメンなさい😅）。

ビールといえば映画だよね、ということで、U-NEXTでマイリストに保存してあった『トレマーズ』を再生してみました。「陸のジョーズ」とも言われているらしいこの映画、息子たち（特に下の子）は砂漠の怪物に夢中でした。私はというと、悪役でないケヴィン・ベーコンを初めて観たこともあり、新鮮でテンションが上がってしまいました。普段あまり観ないタイプの映画でしたが、かなり楽しめたと思います。

ケヴィン・ベーコン繋がりで、続けて『激流』も観ました。20年以上前にTVで観て面白かった記憶があったのですが、改めて観てもやっぱり良かったです。息子たちも、夢中になっていました。

余談ですが、うちはよくストリーミングサービスで映画を観るので、子供たちも2本くらいなら平気で続けて観ちゃいます。映画はこれからもずっと、家族の共通の趣味になるんだろうなと思っています。

ビールとハンバーガーと映画でのんびり過ごす夜は最高でした。週に一度は、こういう時間を作りたいなと思ったのでした。
