Around the Yard - May 23, 2026@goldenoakfarm
Saturday morning was very gloomy and cold. I got my post up and the kitchen cleaned up and the butter made then rested for 2 hours. I headed out at noon to start the mowing.
It took an hour to do the push mower and it even started again when I had to stop it to empty the grass catcher. Even with no rain since I last mowed, the grass was lush and high.
I finished the mowing at 3:15PM and got a shower and went to bed and slept nearly 2 hours. I got up around 5:30PM and ordered some food. I’ve been reading Sue Grafton mysteries and her PI, Kinsey, lives on McDonald’s Quarter Pounders with Cheese and French fries. So I wanted one, but I haven’t ever eaten at McDonald’s since the early 1980’s.
But we have a restaurant in the city near me that uses only local grassfed beef and produce, so I ordered their over the top double burger and fries. My intern arrived just a bit before and we decided to have movie night. She decided she wanted a burger too, so she ordered from this restaurant too.
The temperature was dropping as the storms moved closer and so we decided to light both stoves to be warm the next day. So she brought in wood and I got them going.
Once both orders arrived, she picked out a movie and decided on ‘Erin Brockovich’.
So we snacked on our food from trays and watched the movie. It was pretty late for both of us when it finished at 9:30PM. She had pulled the shades and put more wood in the wood stove. I put more in the masonry heater.
But between the late nap, and the late movie, I couldn’t get to sleep, so I sat and edited all the photos until I was tired enough to sleep. But even then, I didn’t fall asleep until midnight.
On Sunday we planned to have a lazy day, keep stoves going and watch movies. It’s to be cold and rain all day. The rain is to continue until after noontime on Monday. It would have been nice to work with her planting the garden but oh, well…
