Stuck at home injured and bored, so it's movie-time! Please recommend!
I'm gonna need some recommendations because I will just end up getting these things by the singles since I cannot stand subscription streaming services where people just end up clicking endlessly to choose something they have never heard of, then give up on it the moment they get a tiny bit bored, then flip flip flip and the next thing you know watching the boob tube is just like was in the 90's when we had 200 channels on cable.

That's going to be my only real option over at least the next few weeks because yesterday I tried to get out there an go for a walk because I'm feeling bad about my zero exercise and I made it about 4km before my ribs started to hurt (I have one broken and 2 partially broken ribs) and by the time I got home after 4km I seriously regretted taking that on.
Doctors tell you to rest no matter what is wrong with you so just like always, I didn't take the surgeon seriously when he said to stay at home and rest a lot. I now know that he meant business because just that tiny bit of exercise feels as though it reversed any of the good feeling I was having thanks to my shoulder brace and the pain killers and anti-inflammatory tablets.
Shame.
By the way I'm not on any major medication. I have Tramadol for pain, and some souped up ibuprofen tablets, that's it.
So anyway, I am going to be staying home an awful lot in the next few weeks and I am one of those people that starts to go a bit crazy if I don't have something to do. I cannot blindly flip channels and I absolutely hate doom-scrolling YouTube. I already do DuoLingo and will probably be on top of the boards with all this spare time.
I am trying to stay home and be a good boy and not use this extra time where I cannot exercise to re familiarize myself with the pubs.

I'm going to have some fluffy company with me during all of this and the only type of movement that I am going to be doing during the next two weeks is to take her on her twice daily walks because if she doesn't get them she starts to get all anxious and follows me around the apartment and well, I know that means and she always ends up getting it. I reckon I can make it about 500 meters before my ribs start to hurt and I am sure that will change over time.
The danger of NOT feeling pain when I am doing stuff is that it very well could be that I am not feeling it because Tramadol is a relatively powerful painkiller (it's a synthetic opiate) and my body may actually be trying to tell me via pain to "stop doing that!" but I don't listen because the tramadol is blocking it. By continuing to do this sort of thing I am only prolonging my recovery time.
So here is what I would like from you if you can
Please recommend me 1-3 movies or TV series that you really enjoy - like your top of all time. I don't really have a favorite style and am pretty easy going when it comes to viewing. Just know that if I was to choose any one thing that I definitely don't like it would be over-the-top love stories like K-dramas.
My favorite movie of all time is Back to the Future and my favorite series of all time is Breaking Bad.
I do recall a bunch of people talking about a show called The Wire and how amazing that was. So if there is someone out there that has seen that one please tell me, would that series still be good by today's standards or is it a bit too dated?
Thanks for any help that anyone can provide, Nadi and I appreciate it.
I saw a movie called "The Life of Chuck" recently that I thought was really good.
Also while this might be a bit out there if you have a lot of time and it sounds like you do the "Mr Vengeance" trilogy is extremely good. It's in Korean though so make sure you get subtitles.
While I am already familiar with the Mr Vengeance films those are worth a re-watch for sure. Haven't seen the other thing. I'll look it up. thanks.
It would be too hard for me to just give you 3 movies ranging from all time, so I'm just going to suggest 3 that are from more recent years.
Movies - Godzilla Minus One (Outside of being an amazing Godzilla movie, legit just one of the best films ever made), Talk To Me (One of the best supernatural horror movies from the past 20 years. If you like this, Bring Her Back is a solid follow up from the writers/directors), The Menu, a dark comedy with horror elements about private high end dining. (Bonus pick would be Weapons, which I absolutely loved. Reason it's a bonus is because it just got a VOD release, so might not be available in your area.)
Shows - From (Heads up, this is like a Lovecraftian version of the show Lost), Invincible (animated show, but hands down the best superhero themed media from the past 6 years and just a great show overall), True Detective season one (Bonus pick would be Alien Earth, but I'm also a huge Alien/Aliens fan and I definitely think I give this show a little bit of leeway because of my love of the world building they do. Solid 7.5/10 show so far for me.)
this is the Japanese one that they filmed for something absurdly small like $10 million yeah? I think i seent it but I'm not certain enough of this to not re-download it anyway.
The Menu, noted, DL'ing
I hated From
I'll check out Alien Earth because I have really fond memories of the first and second films from the 80's
Yeah, the most recent Japanese one with the silly small budget that somehow looks as good as a movie with a 30-50 million budget.
Pretty fair on From, it's about as polarizing with audiences as Lost was where you either just hate it or love it I feel like.
It's definitely got its flaws and issues, but it's really fun/interesting and does a lot of world building for the actual universe of Alien. Also playing around with some existentialism stuff with most of the characters in the story being "hybrid" synthetics.
TV Series :
Gomorrah - The Italian Sopranos based in Naples.
Gangs of London : Season 1 Episode 5 is the best hour of television I have ever watched.
Film
Nobody or Nobody 2.
well now, i absolutely must get Gangs of London now. Thanks!
Did you watch Travellers on Netflix? That was pretty good. My wife really loved Sons of Anarchy and then Mayans if you are into that gritty sort of stuff. One of my all time favorite shows is Justified. Right now my wife and I are going through the seven seasons of Bosch that is on Amazon Prime. That has been a good show. I've never watched it, but people say The Shield was good too.
Never heard of Bosch. I'll look into that. Sons of Anarchy moved too slow for me when I tried to get into it years ago. I've never heard of Travellers but i'll look it up now. Thanks.
Bosch is based on a book series. We have enjoyed it. I'm sure there are tons of other shows I couldn't think of, but I didn't want to overwhelm you. Queen of the South was pretty good.
Have you watched the Dexter series? That is probably my favorite TV series of all time.
yeah, i really liked the originals but I feel as though they have made too many of them at this point. I'll put that on the back burner.
Did you watch Shogun as that will take up plenty of hours and is very good. Band of Brothers is not new and if you have seen it before is worth another watch as I must have watched it at least 5 x already.
yeah, I saw that. it was awesome. You are correct about Band of Brothers, definitely worth a rewatch.
Just take it easy and get better.
lol yeah, that's probably the main issue here. been years since I have broken anything. I forgot how much it sucks.
I only recently started watching "The Wire" myself and while I am trying really hard to get into it, it is pretty slow-moving by today's standards and well, since you are laid up with an injury, maybe you don't need it to be fast moving. House of the Dragon to me is fantastic, even though a lot of reviews suggest otherwise - plus by the time you finish that it will be maybe close to the release date of the next installment.
thanks! Already seen House of the Dragon because I was a big fan of GoT. I have season 1 of the Wire already now, so I'm gonna try that out first.
