MOVIE REVIEW: The First Born
A few days ago, a friend shared some movies with me, and one title caught my attention immediately — “The First Born.”
As a first child myself, I didn’t even think twice. I wanted to know what the story held for someone like me… and honestly I was deeply touched.

Produced by Mercy Johnson, the film tells the story of Oma, a young woman who loses both parents and suddenly becomes mother, father, provider and protector to her younger brother Emeka
Oma was a selfless person, she gave everything _ her youthful age, her happiness and her dreams just to make sure her brothers had a better life. She worked tirelessly, supported him through school and made sure he never lacks love and care.

She had a friend, who was encouraging her to be better.
Oma was a heavy drinker, not because she was irresponsible but because she carries** years of pains, sacrifices, and silent suffering** in her heart.
Just imagine loosing both parents at a young age, becoming the family breadwinner overnight and never having the space to live your own life.
The emotional punch came when Emeka finally finished schooling, got a good job, got married, and insisted Oma stayed with him. Unfortunately, his wife couldn’t stand her presence, and tension filled the home until Oma quietly packed her bags and left.
That scene broke me.
Saddest part, she died. Never married, no kids, and she didn't let anyone love her too.
The First Born is not just a movie — it’s a reminder.
A reminder that even the strongest shoulders deserve comfort too.
Being the first born is heavy, loosing yourself while trying to save everyone is even heavier.
As a responsible first child, sometimes pause, breathe a and choose yourself too. That's not selfish, do that because you matter too and you are Human.
