Hello #hive movie lovers, I recently took advantage of some free time and gave myself the opportunity to watch “The War of the Rohirrim”. This is a filmic proposal directed by Kenji Kiyama and starring Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand and Gaia Wise as Héra. Being a movie that belongs to the world of #LOTR that's already a good card of introduction. However, while I can't say I'm disappointed, I do feel that the movie didn't live up to Tolkien's universe.
Here we go!
The film brings an interesting and very attractive aesthetic proposal with an animation style reminiscent of anime. It keeps the characters, animals and objects with a very realistic style, which in my opinion gives value to the product. Even the fictional creatures such as orcs, mumakils or the giant squid maintain a style faithful to other graphic representations of the universe of middle earth which also creates the impression of realism through a sense of familiarity with the images it represents. But I think the latter is more related to the next element.

Another feature of this audiovisual that gives it value, in my opinion, is the fact that they made every effort to respect and replicate the artistic representation of the universe created by Peter Jackson. The costumes, the props, the places known from previous versions, the mythological creatures mentioned, and the soundtrack used. They even managed to reunite a good part of the cast of the original films in this version. For me, there were two elements that stood out and pleasantly surprised me, the attention to detail in the art seen in Edoras, especially in the Golden Hall, and the voices of Miranda Otto as the narrator (Éowin) and Christopher Lee as Saruman.

However, I feel that the plot of the film was uncreative and recycled several story elements already depicted in Peter Jackson's films.
- The story of a trusted man who betrays the king and the banishment of the king's loyal nephew.
- Another very similar element in both movies is the warrior princess who is removed from the battle and forced to take on logistical tasks. This is perhaps an unavoidable element in the plot considering that it is Éowin telling an epic story possibly trying to validate her intentions. Or at least I think that's part of the idea of the film.
- The general situation in which the people of Edorás are forced to move to the fortress of Helm's Deep (at that time “Hornburg”) to defend themselves against an army that surpases them in strength and numbers.
- Desperate siege, with few resources and abandoned to their fate, in this case there is a small difference, as the conflict is between humans only, the defending forces do not have help from the elves, or any other race. Otherwise similar to the story already told.
- And finally the return of the banished and forever loyal nephew who arrives at the head of a host of knights and make a final charge to free the besieged in the last moment of desperation and earn with his loyalty and courage the position of king after the death in battle of the previous king.
Overall, this overlapping of elements in more or less the same sequence and with similar visual and narrative elements detracts from the film's authenticity. It ends up being a kind of simplified remake of “The Two Towers”.
Despite what has already been said, I do think it is an entertaining and visually attractive film, with a simple but agile plot. It also has the virtue of complementing a part of the history of Rohan, giving character to the figure of Helm Hammerhand.

Hola cinéfilos de #hive, recientemente aproveché un tiempo libre y me di la oportunidad de ver "La Guerra de los Rohirrim". Esta es una propuesta filmica dirigida por Kenji Kiyama y protagonizada por Brian Cox como Helm Hammerhand y Gaia Wise como Héra. Siendo una peli que pertenece al mundo de #LOTR eso es ya una buena carta de presentación. Sin embargo, aunque no puedo decir que estoy decepcionado, si siento que la película no estuvo a la altura del universo de Tolkien.

La película trae una propuesta estética interesante y muy atractiva con un estilo de animación que recuerda al anime. Mantiene los personajes, animales y objetos con un estilo muy realista lo que a mi modo de ver da valor al producto. Incluso las criaturas ficticias como orcos, mumakils o el calamar gigante mantienen un estilo fiel a otras representaciones gráficas del universo de la tierra media, lo que también crea la impresión de realismo a través de una sensación de familiaridad con las imagenes que representa. Pero creo que esto ultimo está más relacionado con el siguiente elemento.

Otra característica de este audiovisual y que le da valor en mi criterio es el hecho de que hicieron todo el esfuerzo para respetar y replicar la representación artítica que creó Peter Jackson del universo. La vestimenta, los accesorios, los sitios conocidos de entregas anteriores las criaturas mitológicas mencionadas, la banda sonora empleada. Incluso lograron reunir a buena parte del reparto de las películas originales en esta entrega. Para mi hubo dos elementos que resaltaron y me sorprendienron agradablemente, la atención a los detalles en el arte que se observa en Edoras, especialmente en el Salón Dorado, y las voces de Miranda Otto como narradora (Éowin) y de Christopher Lee como Saruman.

Sin embargo, siento que la trama de la película fue poco creativa y recicló varios elementos de la história ya representados en las películas de Peter Jackson.
- La história de un hombre de confianza que traiciona al rey y el destierro del sobrino leal del rey.
- Otro elemento muy semejante en ambas entregas es la princesa guerrera que es apartada de la batalla y obligada a encargarse de tareas logísticas. Este es un elemento quizás inevitable en la trama teniendo en cuenta que se trata de Éowin contando una história épica quizás intentando validar sus intenciones. O al menos creo que esa era parte de la idea de la película.
- La situación general en la que las personas de Edorás se ven obligadas a moverse hasta la fortaleza del abismo de Helm (en ese momento "Cuernavilla") para defenderse de un ejército que los supera en fuerza y número.
- El asedio desesperado, con pocos recursos y abandonados a su suerte, en este caso hay una pequeña diferencia, como el conflicto es entre humanos solamente, las fuerzas defensoras no cuentan con ayuda de los elfos, ni de ninguna otra raza. Por lo demás semejante a la historia ya contada.
- Y por último el retorno del sobrino desterrado y por siempre leal que llega a la cabeza de una hueste de caballeros y hacen una carga final liberando a los asediados en el ultimo momento de desesperación para ganarse con su lealtad y valor el puesto de rey ante la muerte en batalla del rey anterior.
En conjunto, esta superposición de elementos en más o menos la misma secuencia y con elementos visuales y narrativos semejantes restan mucha autenticidad a la película. Termina siendo una especies de remake simplificado de "Las Dos Torres".
A pesar de lo ya dicho si creo que es una película entretenida y visualmente atractiva, con una trama sencilla pero ágil. Además tiene la virtud de complementar una parte de la história de Rohan dando caracter a la figura de Helm Hammerhand.

Creo que es una buena idea, para mi es una peli muy para fans, su mayor atractivo en mi criterio es precisamente que da continuidad a una história y a un personaje que solo se menciona en la línea principal. Pero eso ya es "zona geek" 😅
