MY MOVIE REVIEW: SMALLVILLE
I grew up loving any movies that center around super heros. They always give me this sense of fulfilment and entertainment that no other movie gave me. In the categories of the movie I actually watch, there was one I recently watch that really catch me emotionally and that is SMALLVILLE. For me, even though it was a TV series, I still see it as a movie most especially the way the story of the movie was really narrated.
Even though I was not in America as that is where the movie was shot, but watching the movie from Nigeria gave me another connection to the story. If there is actually something that makes me feel connected to the movie, I will say it is strongly the life lessons I was able to pick from the movie most especially in the aspect of understanding your purposes and being able to deal with challenges.
THE PLOT
Let me even start by talking about the plot before diving into the review. The story center around a kind couple whose name was Jonathan and Martha Kent. They found a baby boy who came from another planet called the Krypton planet. That was the first time I will hear about the planet. They pick him up and raised him to become their own son. They eventually named him Clark.
Clark is the major cast in the movie. Even though as he grew up, he faced a whole lot of challenges. He was able to discover that he was not an ordinary boy unlike the others and he discover he has super power like having massive speed and others. He can even fly. He tried several times to live a normal life as he was trying to hide his powers but it was not possible.
He needs to act as the hero because a lot of wicked super people are rising up to destroy the city and Clark will need to stop every one of them. Along the way, he make mistakes actually and learn from it. At the end of the day, he actually grew into the superman that we all know but the journey was not really easy.
MY REVIEW
Now back to my own review, I will say watching the movie as a Nigerian really changes a whole lot of things about me. I was able to get soaked in the idea of purpose, family and identity. These are the three major ideas that make me stand still to the movie.
For me, Clark whose real name was Tom Welling really played the role perfectly. He a really acted well and was able to put in the emotional connection to it. If there is something I learnt, it was the fact that your closest friend today can become your enemy tomorrow. I am talking about Lex Luthor in the movie.
One of the things I really love so much about the movie is also the picture quality, the music used and even generally the settings of the movie was amazing. Even though sometimes I feel some stories in the movie are repeated but looking at the bigger story still makes me glued to it. For me, I love the fact that the movie was not rushed. Even though Clark have amazing super powers, he didn't start as a superman instantly. This also gives me a life lesson that sometimes success does not come in a day, we will need to learn and need time.
CONCLUSION
For me personally, the movie smallville was beyond just the usual superhero movie I usually watch. It opened my eyes to see the aspect of life in the aspect of who one should be, the important of learning to do the right thing even though it might be difficult sometimes. Every great thing started small. It is a movie I can watch over and over again without not getting tired.
Most of the time whenever I was watching the movie, I always see myself in Clark. As a young guy who sometimes faced confusion because I am in search of my purpose and trying to attend to the demands of life. Smallville is a movie everyone should watch.
