The plot / La trama

The plot is set in the middle of the jungle, during the reign of the Maya, who capture Jaguar Claw (Rudy Youngblood), a peaceful hunter, along with his entire tribe. He is destined to be sacrificed to calm the fury of the Gods, but miraculously escapes and a fierce chase ensues, in a wild race to save his life and that of his family trapped in the tribe.

La trama se desarrolla en plena selva , durante el reinado de los Mayas, quienes capturan a garra de jaguar (Rudy Youngblood), un pacífico cazador, junto a toda su tribu. El está destinado a ser sacrificado para calmar la furia de los Dioses, pero escapa milagrosamente y se inicia una feroz persecución, en una carrera desenfrenada por salvar su vida y la de su familia que quedó atrapada en la tribu.

With this film Mel Gibson proves that he is not only a good actor but also an excellent film director.

This story was filmed in the middle of the Mexican jungle, specially chosen to facilitate the action shots, for the waterfalls and to offer a truly convincing location for the characteristics of the film. Gibson hired actors whose physical features resembled those of the indigenous people of the area and sought around 700 extras to represent the indigenous people, whom he had to dress and make up in the style of the ancient Mayan tribes.

Con esta película Mel Gibson demuestra que no solo es buen actor sino también un excelente director de cine.
Esta historia fue filmada en plena selva Mexicana, escogida especialmente para facilitar las tomas de acción, por las caídas de agua y para que ofreciera una locación verdaderamente convincente a las características del film. Gibson contrató actores cuyos rasgos físicos aparentaran los de los indígenas de la zona y buscó alrededor de 700 extras para representar al pueblo indígena, a los cuales tuvo que vestir y maquillar a la usanza de las antiguas tribus mayas.

Historically it is known that the Mayan tribes were formed by terrible and bloodthirsty warriors fearful of their Gods and to calm the fury unleashed against their crops and against their tribe, they used to kidnap natives from another area to offer them as sacrifices.

It is a very well made film with excellent performances, so much so that the viewer becomes actively involved in the story. In addition, the realism that it gives to all the scenes makes everyone leave convinced that it is a true story of the natives of the area and not of simple actors.

Históricamente se sabe que las tribus mayas estaban formadas por terribles y sanguinarios guerreros temerosas de sus Dioses y para calmar la furia desatada contra sus cultivos y contra su tribu, acostumbraban raptar nativos de otra zona para ofrecerlos como sacrificio.
Es una película muy bien elaborada con excelentes actuaciones, tanto que hacen que el espectador se involucre de manera activa en la historia. Además el realismo que le imprime a todas las escenas hacen que todos salgan convencidos que es una verdadera historia de indígenas de la zona y no de simples actores.

I must say that I was impressed by the scenes of violence using primitive weapons such as arrows, knives and spears. Also, I admire Gibson's creativity to weave a story that, as the plot progresses, gets more interesting and keeps the viewer in suspense.

Another important factor was the filming on location; they had to build gigantic pyramids and Mayan cities for the shots. The shots of the moving scenes in the jungle are very real and were achieved using modern special equipment.

Apocalypto, besides being an interesting story based on real-life characters, also shows us that only with the desire to stay alive can we get out of difficult situations, even if they seem impossible to solve.

Debo decir que me impresionaron las escenas de violencia usando armas primitivas como flechas, cuchillos y lanzas. Así mismo, es admirable la creatividad de Gibson para hilvanar una historia que, a medida que transcurre la trama, se pone más interesante y mantiene al espectador en suspenso.
Otro factor importante fue la filmación en los exteriores, tuvieron que construir gigantescas pirámides y ciudades mayas para hacer las tomas. Las tomas de las escenas en movimiento dentro de la selva son muy reales y se lograron utilizando modernos equipos especiales.
Apocalypto, además de ser una interesante historia basada en personajes de la vida real, nos muestra además que solo con el deseo de mantener la vida se puede salir airoso de situaciones difíciles aunque parezcan imposibles de solucionar.

In conclusion/ Para concluir

If you like action movies that keep you gripped to your chair, this movie is for you. It is highly recommended because it keeps you in suspense throughout the movie and has a very impressive final denouement. The performances of each of the characters are very convincing and make you get immersed in a very well orchestrated plot that make this movie a good recommendation to watch and enjoy.

I don't want to delve into more details so as not to fall into spoilers, I simply recommend that you watch it if you haven't and draw your own conclusions.

Si te gustan las películas de acción que te mantengan aferrado a tu silla, esta película es para ti. Está super recomendada porque te mantiene en suspenso en toda la película y tiene un desenlace final muy impresionante. Las actuaciones de cada uno de los personajes son muy convincentes y hacen que te sumerjas en una trama muy bien orquestada que hacen de esta película una buena recomendación para ver y disfrutar.
