Where Redemption Ends: A Review of Sinners
Hello hive men and ladies! This is a short review of the parts I found interesting in the movie: Sinners.
I remember back when this movie first came out in cinemas around us. It was the talk of the whole town, even on social media. Even with all the hype, I was still reluctant to watch it, as I've been disappointed by all the movies coming out in recent years. I've taken to watching old movies, as I find them way more interesting than the movies being released now. My reluctance lasted until I started seeing memes and skits based on the movie, done by our content creators on the various social media platforms. That was when I found out that it was even vampire-related. They did a good job of convincing me to watch it.
Now lets move on to the parts that left an impression on me:
1. Michael B. Jordan seamlessly acting the brothers
I always knew the man was good, but damn did he really remind me just how good he is here. He played both character so well, you'd think he's suffering from split-personality syndrome in real life. I'm embarrassed to admit it took me till the end of the movie, seeing the casts to be completely assured that they were acted by the same person. I thought he had a really good lookalike, cranked up to 100 by some light make-up and make-over. Don't look at me like that. I know better now.
2. Annie doing her Pseudo-Yoruba rituals
I'm sure any Nigerian watching that part would've pointed at the screen like this
At first, I suspected she was Nigerian, then that 'Ashe' part sealed the deal. Even though she didn't pronounce it well, we got the message loud and clear. It's always nice to see movies incorporating our traditions, even if they mostly show our primitive parts lol. That's not a proper Yoruba incantation mind you. Hearing one means you're almost likely to be hexed.... Kidding! Or am I?? I guess we'll never know.😜
3. The Legend of the Griots
According to the Legend, the griots are people so talented in music, that they conjure up spirits from the past and the future while singing/playing. I found this utterly preposterous, and weirdly making some sense, as music is one of the most powerful force capable of touching people's souls and emotions. I mean, most religions sing to their Gods. Most rituals and incantations require singing. Good music itself can alter moods and speak to you. What I'm trying to say is that music is powerful, and we might have not touched the full potential of what we can accomplish with it. I have quite a few crazy theories gotten from watching too many sci-fi and supernatural movies that I won't share😜 In the movie, the lead Vampire was attracted to Sammie's music and seeked him out because the only way it could connect to its dead loved ones was through a Griot's(Sammie's) music. Overall, I found the mix and transition from ancient music to modern music quite refreshing.
4. The Invitation Conundrum
Yessss. This is it. This is what made me watch the movie. This part right here has quite the number of skits made honoring it. I think Vampire Diaries was the first Vampire show to use this concept of having to invite Vampires in, before they can actually enter your home. A concept I find oh-so fascinating and was used wonderfully here. The Vampires had to use psychological warfare and creative mind games to get themselves in. It's always nice to see people using their brains to one-up one another.
5. The Psychological Warfare
The Vampire first demanded Sammie, citing it came for his gift. Allegedly, he'd have let them go if they just gave him Sammie. Yeahh... I don't think anyone will buy that. Even though this wasn't some crazed blood-sucking vampire, we all know about their thrall-creating tendencies.
Now this was the part that truly got me riled up. I was so pissed off, that I wanted to enter the movie and slap Grace senseless. How can someone be so selfish as to doom others to a fate worse than death, all because of her own uncontrollable emotions? Was she the only one with family? Didn't others also lose loved ones? I admit that the Vampire played her well, but she had no right to doom them all!! Arghhh!!! Just thinking about it makes me want to punch someone. Anyways, I rate the emotional manipulation a solid 100/10. Even I had to take notes.
6. The Ironic Baptism
I know many Christians watching this part will shout blasphemy!😆 How does a blood-sucking creature recite the Lord's prayer and say he finds comfort in it without getting smitten?! Even worst, he performed a baptism!!🤣 I laughed my ass out here. It shouldn't be that funny, but the irony in it all was just too much. I mean, he dunked Sammy in 3x!!🤣 This was definitely my favorite part of the movie.
Conclusion
Before concluding, let me add my thought on a possible vampire candidate that wasn't exposed.
Yeppp, definitely her. I mean, how can someone have such a visceral reaction to eating garlic? She was suspicious af. She's probably a very old vampire than can control herself extremely well.
Overall, the movie was every bit worth the hype. I enjoyed watching it a lot, and that's saying something, considering I've automatically catalogued every new movie coming out now to the 'trash' category. I guess one of the main reasons I enjoyed it so much was because they didn't sprinkle even a teensy-weensy bit of lgbtq content in it. Did Netflix, Disney or HBO not have a hand in the creation of the movie? Oh well, I'll take what I can get!
This is the end of my review. I rate it an 8/10 and suggest you watch it if you haven't. And if you have, please feel free to share what you think. Thank you, bye!

I don't think I gave this film enough of a fair chance. I got a bit bored in the first half an hour and walked away from it... perhaps I should go back and give it another try.
Maybe it's just not your type of movie
