[Movie] KOI... MIL GAYA(2003) REVIEW

When I watched Koi... Mil Gaya, I found it to be a very different kind of movie from classic Indian films At first the story is about a young man named Rohit whose life has been deeply marked by the events that affected his parents But when he meets a creature from another world his life changes completely

THE BEGINNING OF THE STORY—SANJAY AND HIS SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

The story begins with a scientist named Sanjay Mehra who is deeply interested in the possibility of communicating with beings living on other planets.
Sanjay builds a computer capable of sending signals into space. He hopes that one day he’ll receive a response from beings living beyond Earth.
Other scientists don’t really believe in his research and some even make fun of him. But Sanjay doesn’t give up. He continues his experiments with great determination
One day he finally receives a mysterious response
Sanjay realizes that the signal he sent seems to have received a reply
But when he returns home with his wife Sonia something unexpected happens. They see a light and a strange spaceship in the sky Sanjay tries to figure out what’s going on but a car accident occurs
Sanjay dies while Sonia survives.
At that time Sonia is pregnant and the accident will have significant consequences for the child she is carrying

ROHIT — A BOY WHO STARTS HIS LIFE FACING CHALLENGES

Sonia gives birth to a boy whom she names Rohit.
As he grows up Rohit struggles with learning and understanding things He behaves differently from other kids his age and some people see him as different
But his mother, Sonia, never gives up on him
She moves to Kasauli where she raises Rohit while taking care of him.
Rohit befriends several children younger than him He enjoys spending time with them playing and chatting and they see him as a true friend.
Watching these scenes I particularly appreciated how the film shows that Rohit is a big-hearted person even if some people don’t fully understand him

ROHIT AND NISHA

Rohit’s life begins to change when a young woman named Nisha arrives in town
At first Nisha doesn’t really understand Rohit’s situation There are a few misunderstandings but when Sonia explains her son’s difficulties to her Nisha regrets the way she had behaved toward him
She then begins to understand Rohit better
The two become good friends and little by little a relationship based on trust and understanding develops between them
But someone isn’t happy to see Rohit and Nisha growing closer
That person is Raj
Raj is interested in Nisha, so he starts making fun of Rohit while trying to drive them apart

One day Rohit and Nisha discover Sanjay’s old computer
They start using it without really understanding how it works or what it’s capable of
They accidentally reactivate the system Sanjay had created to communicate with beings living in space
That’s when something extraordinary begins
Signals are sent into the sky
Shortly afterward a spaceship appears above the city
The creatures aboard the ship arrive on Earth but when they leave one of them accidentally gets left behind
The police then begin searching for this creature
But Rohit and Nisha are the first to discover it

JADOO — THE UNEXPECTED FRIEND

Rohit and Nisha discover a strange creature that isn’t human
At first they’re surprised and don’t know what to do But they quickly realize that the creature isn’t dangerous
They name him Jadoo which means magic
Jadoo has extraordinary powers
Rohit, Nisha, and their friends decide to hide Jadoo so that no one will find him
Jadoo becomes especially close to Rohit
He realizes that Rohit is struggling mentally and physically and tries to help him

JADOO CHANGES ROHIT’S LIFE

One day Jadoo uses his powers to help Rohit.
An extraordinary change then begins.
Rohit feels that his mind is now working differently
His eyesight improves
His ability to learn also improves dramatically
Things he once struggled to understand become much easier for him
The teachers, who thought he would have trouble learning are surprised by his progress
Rohit begins to learn much more quickly
But the change isn’t limited to his mind
His body too begins to develop extraordinary strength and abilities

Raj and his group continue to make fun of Rohit
But Rohit isn’t the same boy he used to be
They come face to face during a basketball game
At first the game seems normal but Rohit begins to show off his new abilities
He becomes much stronger and performs much better than before
Raj and his group try to make the game difficult but Rohit and his friends end up winning
From that moment on Rohit begins to gain more self-confidence

Rohit’s transformation also affects his relationship with Nisha
Nisha sees that Rohit is now more confident and can stand up for himself when he faces problems
Rohit eventually confesses his feelings to her
Nisha, too realizes that her feelings for Rohit have grown much deeper
The two of them then begin a real relationship
But their happiness won’t last long
The police begin to realize that a creature from another world is still in the area

Inspector Khurshid Khan begins his investigation
He wants to find Jadoo
Rohit, Nisha, and their friends try to keep Jadoo’s secret safe
But eventually the police discover clues that lead them closer to him.
The situation becomes increasingly difficult
Rohit realizes that if Jadoo is captured he risks being separated from him

Rohit Decides to Let Jadoo Go

One of the moments that moved me the most in the movie is when Rohit realizes that Jadoo has to go back to his people
Rohit knows that if Jadoo leaves the powers he’s been given might disappear
That means he could go back to the way he was before
Despite this Rohit chooses friendship
He simply wants Jadoo to be safe and to be able to reunite with his people

Jadoo Is Captured

The police eventually find Jadoo.
Rohit can’t accept losing his friend
Even though the situation gets very complicated Rohit tries to save Jadoo.
Finally he manages to reach Jadoo before he’s taken away
At that moment the spaceship appears in the sky
Jadoo finally has a chance to return to his family

Rohit and Jadoo’s Farewell

The farewell scene is certainly one of the most moving in the movie.
Rohit and Jadoo have become true friends
Jadoo has given Rohit much more than just powers
He has given him confidence hope and the ability to believe in himself
The ship is preparing to leave
Rohit realizes that Jadoo will soon be gone
When Jadoo finally leaves Earth Rohit gradually returns to his former self
But what matters most is that Rohit made the right choice: he helped his friend return home

THE END — THE FINAL WONDER

After Jadoo’s departure Rohit must once again face his previous situation
But Nisha doesn’t abandon him.
She makes him understand that what she loves isn’t just his newfound strength or the change brought about by Jadoo
She loves Rohit himself
Then Raj and his gang try once again to make fun of Rohit.
But suddenly Rohit shows that he still possesses the powers he had received
We then realize that Jadoo has permanently left some of his abilities with Rohit
Rohit and Nisha finally understand that the true wonder they experienced wasn’t just meeting a creature from another world
The true wonder is that Rohit has finally found self-confidence and happiness
The film ends with Rohit and Nisha beginning to build a happy future together

MY THOUGHTS

Personally, Koi... Mil Gaya is a movie that really moved me What I appreciated most wasn’t just the story of the alien or Jadoo’s powers but above all the way the film portrays Rohit’s life and shows how a boy whom some people underestimated eventually finds self-confidence and happiness

Jadoo helps Rohit change but Rohit also shows Jadoo what true friendship is

The farewell scene between Rohit and Jadoo really left an impression on me, because Rohit agrees to let his friend go despite everything that this separation means to him

Personally I think it’s a truly special movie especially thanks to the story of Rohit and Jadoo.
