A good season 1 of Monarch:Legacy of Monsters before watching the season 2.

  In my adventure with Apple TV in search of the maximum number of movies and shows that I can watch before I lose the 3 months for free, I found something that fits exactly in my profile. I remembered that I watched the trailer a while ago about this TV show and I was very curious about it. The "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" is a show based in the Godzilla character. Yeah the good and old Godzilla that started his carreer smashing cities made of cartoon boxes. But it is much more than a movie of monsters smashing cities and fighting each other.

  The first surprise was in the opening when I saw Kurt Russel's name there. I wasn't expecting that. The actor who has a ton of movies, including one of my favorite Sci-fi movies: Stargate, in the 90s. He plays as the young former US colonel Lee Shaw in his elderly age. The interesting part is that his son is also acting in the Tv show Wyatt Russel as his younger character version. Most of the first season episodes is split in two directions. The first one in the 60s when Monarch organization was created by Lee Shaw, the scientist Keiko Miura, and the cryptozoologist Bill Randa. An organization to study the titans, and they are the first to spot Godzilla and other monsters. The second direction is the present in 2015, with the half-brothers Cate and Kentaro Randa on an adventure to find their father, who has gone missing. Hiroshi Randa, who was long thought dead.

  The way that they built two stories happening at the same time in two different time periods was interesting because in the end the two stories get connected at the same time using some time of space-time distortion since the world beneath that open portals to our world has a gravity distortion that allows that. The time spent at the Titan's world passes more slowly compared to our world on the surface. The show brings Godzilla sometimes with so much success and other monsters of course. The production is well done, like any recent monster movie.

  The movie is about the adventure of creating the Monarch organization and also about family reunion since Keiko Miura is the mother of Hiroshi and grandmother of Cate and Keitaro. But still, the family is complex. First, Bill Randa isn't the biological father of Hiroshi. And also the first season doesn't end with the explanation of how Hiroshi made two families, one in San Francisco, USA and the other in Tokyo, Japan. Of course in the end of the season we had a cliff hanger, which I won't gives some tip about the next season and which famous monster will show up.

  The premiere of the next season is today! By luck, I finished watching the first season right before the second season started. It was a great idea to bring Kurt Russel and his son to play the same character in different time periods. They are very similar, and both are solid actors. I also liked the other actors of the show, and the effects of the monsters are great, even though they are mostly more side characters most of the time, since it isn't a show about fighting them. The show brings great dynamics about how and why these monsters are in the world. If you missed the first season, I recommend watching it.

Lembrei que tinha visto o trailer dessa série há um tempo e fiquei muito curioso. "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" é uma série baseada no personagem Godzilla. Sim, o bom e velho Godzilla que começou sua carreira destruindo cidades feitas de caixas de desenho animado. Mas é muito mais do que um filme de monstros destruindo cidades e lutando entre si.

  A primeira surpresa foi na abertura, quando vi o nome de Kurt Russell. Eu não esperava por isso. O ator que tem uma infinidade de filmes, incluindo um dos meus filmes de ficção científica favoritos: Stargate, dos anos 90. Ele interpreta o jovem ex-coronel americano Lee Shaw em sua velhice. O interessante é que seu filho também atua na série de TV, Wyatt Russell, interpretando a versão mais jovem do personagem. A maioria dos episódios da primeira temporada se divide em duas linhas temporais. A primeira se passa nos anos 60, quando a organização Monarch foi criada por Lee Shaw, a cientista Keiko Miura e o criptozoólogo Bill Randa. Uma organização para estudar os titãs, e eles são os primeiros a avistar Godzilla e outros monstros. A segunda linha temporal se passa no presente, em 2015, com os meio-irmãos Cate e Kentaro Randa em uma aventura para encontrar seu pai, Hiroshi Randa, que desapareceu e era considerado morto há muito tempo.

  A maneira como construíram duas histórias que acontecem simultaneamente em dois períodos de tempo diferentes foi interessante, porque no final as duas histórias se conectam usando alguma distorção espaço-temporal, já que o mundo abaixo, que abre portais para o nosso mundo, possui uma distorção gravitacional que permite isso. O tempo gasto no mundo de Titã passa mais lentamente em comparação com o nosso mundo na superfície. A série traz Godzilla, às vezes com muito sucesso, e outros monstros, é claro. A produção é bem feita, como qualquer filme de monstros recente.

O filme é sobre a aventura de criar a organização Monarch e também sobre a reunião familiar, já que Keiko Miura é a mãe de Hiroshi e avó de Cate e Keitaro. Mas ainda assim, a família é complexa. Primeiro, Bill Randa não é o pai biológico de Hiroshi. E a primeira temporada também não termina com a explicação de como Hiroshi formou duas famílias, uma em São Francisco, EUA, e a outra em Tóquio, Japão. É claro que no final da temporada tivemos um suspense, mas não vou dar nenhuma dica sobre a próxima temporada e qual monstro famoso aparecerá.

  A estreia da próxima temporada é hoje! Por sorte, terminei de assistir à primeira temporada bem antes do início da segunda. Foi uma ótima ideia trazer Kurt Russell e seu filho para interpretar o mesmo personagem em diferentes períodos de tempo. Eles são muito parecidos e ambos são ótimos atores. Também gostei dos outros atores da série, e os efeitos dos monstros são ótimos, mesmo que eles sejam, em sua maioria, personagens secundários, já que não é uma série sobre lutar contra eles. A série apresenta uma ótima dinâmica sobre como e por que esses monstros estão no mundo. Se você perdeu a primeira temporada, recomendo assisti-la.
