A whole movie for a side character: Madame Web.

  My wife and I barely don't watch movies together anymore. We usually have some divergence of tastes. We have a TV in our bedroom that we barely use since each one of us watches a different movie/tv show in or mobiles. That's how I watch my Science fiction, horror and animation movies. She loves those romantic comedies that most of the time have a similar script. But this weekend was a bit different and we found something in common: Madame Web.

  To be frank, neither of us knew what to expect about the movie. I barely saw that it was based in a Marvel character but didn't recognize it by watching the trailer. And my wife thought that was just a supernatural fiction movie but not horror of course,e since she hates the genre. The history of this lady, called Cassandra Webb, whose mother was bitten by a special spider from the Amazon forest before dying and giving birth to the lady. That's how she got her powers of precognition and astral projection. Marvel lately has been releasing some side character movies with less success compared to Avengers, Spider-Man and other pop heroes. I didn't watch all of them like Mobius movie. But I would say this one was an OK movie.

  I read about the character in the comics after the movie to understand more and the movie mostly shows the origin of Madame Web, like how she got paraplegic and blind fighting against the bad guy of the movie, and probably they set everything for her next appearance in another Marvel movie. The comment of my wife in the end was interesting: "she became that guy from X-Men" (referring to Charles Xavier). Indeed, the character is influenced by many other ideas that already existed in the Marvel Universe, such as becoming a superhuman after a spider bite influence and of course, you can trace some parallels with Charles Xavier, since both superpowers come from mind manipulation.

  Anyways, even using a side character they created an OK movie that could entertain a bit us and the possibility of new movies with this character. Since the whole story was about Cassandra Webb protecting three teenagers who would turn into superheroes as well. The bad guy of the movie, who killed Cassandra's mother, got the spider power as well and foretold his death by these three teenagers. After some look I found that two of them were Spider Women(Julia Carpenter and Mattie Franklin )and the third one would wear the mantle of Spider-girl (Anya Corazon). By the way, Sydney Sweeney plays the role of Julia Carpenter in the movie, but those looking for her cleavage will get disappointed since she doesn't show much her body which was good since she was in a teenager role.

  The movie doesn't bring many thoughts and ideas to think about, if you are looking for that. It is an action movie that doesn't care about that. It is just an entertainment with fight and suspense witha regular bad guy x good guy fight. If you are looking for more maybe you should skip. But many other movies like Venom got me bored and this one it didn't so it is already a win, right?

  Minha esposa e eu quase não assistimos mais filmes juntos. Geralmente temos gostos bem diferentes. Temos uma TV no quarto que quase não usamos, já que cada um de nós assiste a filmes/séries diferentes em nossos celulares. É assim que eu assisto a filmes de ficção científica, terror e animação. Ela adora comédias românticas que, na maioria das vezes, têm roteiros parecidos. Mas este fim de semana foi um pouco diferente e descobrimos algo em comum: Madame Web.

  Para ser franco, nenhum de nós sabia o que esperar do filme. Eu mal percebi que era baseado em uma personagem da Marvel, mas não reconheci isso assistindo ao trailer. E minha esposa achou que era apenas um filme de ficção sobrenatural, mas não de terror, é claro, já que ela detesta o gênero. A história dessa mulher, chamada Cassandra Webb, é sobre uma mãe que foi picada por uma aranha especial da floresta amazônica antes de morrer e dar à luz a ela. Foi assim que ela adquiriu seus poderes de precognição e projeção astral. A Marvel tem lançado alguns filmes de personagens secundários ultimamente, com menos sucesso em comparação com os filmes dos Vingadores, Homem-Aranha e outros heróis populares. Eu não assisti a todos, como o filme de Mobius. Mas eu diria que este foi um filme razoável.

  Depois do filme, li sobre a personagem nos quadrinhos para entender melhor, e o filme mostra principalmente a origem da Madame Web, como ela ficou paraplégica e cega lutando contra o vilão do filme, e provavelmente prepararam o terreno para sua próxima aparição em outro filme da Marvel. O comentário da minha esposa no final foi interessante: "ela se tornou aquele cara dos X-Men" (referindo-se a Charles Xavier). De fato, a personagem é influenciada por muitas outras ideias que já existiam no Universo Marvel, como se tornar um super-humano após a picada de uma aranha e, claro, é possível traçar alguns paralelos com Charles Xavier, já que ambos os superpoderes vêm da manipulação mental.

  Enfim, mesmo usando uma personagem secundária, eles criaram um filme razoável que pode nos entreter um pouco e abrir a possibilidade de novos filmes com essa personagem. Afinal, a história gira em torno de Cassandra Webb protegendo três adolescentes que também se transformariam em super-heróis. O vilão do filme, que matou a mãe de Cassandra, também adquiriu o poder da aranha e previu sua morte pelas mãos desses três adolescentes. Depois de pesquisar um pouco, descobri que duas delas eram as Mulheres-Aranha (Julia Carpenter e Mattie Franklin) e a terceira assumiria o manto da Garota-Aranha (Anya Corazon). Aliás, Sydney Sweeney interpreta Julia Carpenter no filme, mas quem procura por seu decote ficará desapontado, já que ela não mostra muito o corpo, o que foi bom, pois ela interpretava uma adolescente.

  O filme não traz muitas reflexões ou ideias para se pensar, se é isso que você procura. É um filme de ação que não se preocupa com isso. É apenas entretenimento com lutas e suspense, com uma típica luta entre o vilão e o mocinho. Se você busca algo mais, talvez seja melhor pular este. Mas muitos outros filmes, como Venom, me entediaram, e este não, então já é uma vitória, certo?
