I love horror movies and shows, when netflix announced the trailer for this new TV Show I got excited, it looked like a brand new horror tv show , with a girl probably possessed by the devil. The trailer created me some expectations that didn't exist. In reality, the TV show is more of a thriller/suspense with nothing supernatural behind it. It is interesting because I had the opposite expectations in another movie based on weird cults called "The Wicker Man", a movie with Nicholas Cage. At that time I was expecting a thriller/suspense but the movie ended with a supernatural horror movie.

Anyways, "Devil in Ohio" showed that it wasn't a horror movie in the middle of the show already, I continued to watch it anyways because I wanted to know what was going to be the ending, which I can confess that it doesn't have any big turnovers, with except about we questioning ourselves if the "victim" was really a victim after all. Maybe the message was that in our real world there isn't a real pure victim that is pursued by bad people, in they can make bad things!

The story basically is based in a girl , Mae (Madelaine Arthur) that runs away from her small community that follows a satanic religion. Most of the people in this community is brainwashed as any religion radical, seeing that their book is the answer for all problems in their lives. She was going to be sacrificed by the "best" for her community. She ends in the hospital and a social worker, Suzanne (Emily Deschanel), decides to help her adding Mae in her family circle, with a husband and three daughters. The TV show develops the series under investigation and the cult menace in threatening Suzanne's family in addition to Mae. Also, it shows how Mae didn't know how it was to have a real mother to love her and a family that cares for her. This motivates Mae to envy Suzanne's real daughters. Despite the last episode having lots of action with a direct fight with the cult, it ended with the family splitter showing the real character of Mae, leading us to question what I mentioned before. It is a good series, it ended in a way that can go for a season 2. I would be happy if this show was a mini-series and ended in the last episode. Even to being a horror movie it still can be fun for those who like to watch about devil cults. Here is the trailer:

I was curious about this series but haven’t got around to checking it out. The social worker actress looks familiar.

You should check out “Servant” from Apple TV+ if you haven’t already seen it. It is dark, supernatural, but surprisingly comedic.
