Peter Rabbit: a great family movie during the holiday

  On Monday was a holiday here for those who don't work during weekends. We took advantage of a promotion in the local Movie Theatre here in town. It is rare to pay a 3$ ticket to go to the movies nowadays. The only "problem" is that they display old movies that have not been in the theatres for a long time. One of the options was "Peter Rabbit". A kids movie from 2018. There is a second (2021) release, which I also didn't watch. My oldest watched the first and second at school, but it was the first time for my youngest and for me. I would say that it was a pleasant movie, cute and with some thinking situations.

  My oldest daughter went to the movies again with my wife on Tuesday to watch the new Mario, and her review was that Peter Rabbit was better than the Mario movie. I watched the first Mario, and despite having some fun since I played the video games for a while, it was a movie with very silly jokes. Probably the assessment of my daughter was the same as mine, Peter Rabbit was a more complete movie with some learning mixed, of course, with some jokes for kids and adults to laugh.

  The movie actors bring some not-so-well-known actors, except the voice of one of Peter Rabbit's sisters, Flopsy, who is voiced by Margot Robbie. The actress who plays the sweet woman, Bea, Rose Byrne, I remember her from the horror movie Insidious, a nice hit on my horror movie list. The movie brings interesting topics that we can deal with since we were kids, such as grief, jealousy, fear and lies.

  Thomas McGregor, a city boy, just got a heritage country house from his grumpy uncle. He moves to the new house and meets the mischievous Peter Rabbit, the leader of his brothers and sisters, who were offended after Thomas' uncle ate his father. Both Thomas got the old fight between his uncle and Peter but both share the admiration by the pure Brea that initially sees both characters as pure hearts like her. But soon the hate from each other is seen, and Brea gets mad about it. Both learn how to live together, and one of the best lines from Peter Rabbit is when he questions if he will be a hero or just a lunatic, since the division between them is blurry and difficult to distinguish. That is always true because heroes sometimes do crazy things that can hurt themselves and others.

  The story is fluent, and the end is happy since we support both Thomas and Peter, despite their problems, they look like good characters that just need to learn how to live together. Maybe that's what's missing in most people who make bad choices: fighting with others. They just need to understand what drives them to selfish decisions, and they need to learn that the world is big with many different people.

  Na segunda-feira foi feriado aqui para quem não trabalha nos fins de semana. Aproveitamos uma promoção no cinema local. É raro pagar 3 dólares por um ingresso de cinema hoje em dia. O único "problema" é que eles exibem filmes antigos que não são exibidos há muito tempo. Uma das opções era "Peter Rabbit", um filme infantil de 2018. Há uma segunda versão (de 2021), que eu também não assisti. Meu filho mais velho assistiu à primeira e à segunda versão na escola, mas foi a primeira vez para o meu filho mais novo e para mim. Eu diria que foi um filme agradável, fofo e com algumas situações que nos fazem pensar.

  Minha filha mais velha foi ao cinema novamente com minha esposa na terça-feira para assistir ao novo filme do Mario, e a opinião dela foi que Peter Rabbit era melhor que o filme do Mario. Eu assisti ao primeiro filme do Mario e, apesar de ter me divertido um pouco, já que joguei os videogames por um tempo, achei o filme com piadas muito bobas. Provavelmente a avaliação da minha filha foi a mesma que a minha: Peter Rabbit foi um filme mais completo, com lições de moral misturadas, é claro, com piadas para crianças e adultos rirem.

  O elenco do filme conta com alguns atores não tão conhecidos, com exceção da voz de uma das irmãs de Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, que é dublada por Margot Robbie. A atriz que interpreta a doce Bea, Rose Byrne, eu me lembro dela do filme de terror Insidious, um ótimo filme de terror para a minha lista. O filme aborda temas interessantes com os quais lidamos desde a infância, como tristeza, ciúme, medo e mentiras.

  Thomas McGregor, um garoto da cidade, acaba de herdar uma casa de campo de seu tio rabugento. Ele se muda para a nova casa e conhece o travesso Pedro Coelho, o líder de seus irmãos e irmãs, que ficaram ofendidos depois que o tio de Thomas comeu seu pai. Ambos vivenciam a antiga briga entre seu tio e Pedro, mas compartilham a admiração da pura Brea, que inicialmente vê os dois personagens como pessoas de coração puro como ela. Mas logo o ódio entre eles se manifesta, e Brea fica furiosa com isso. Os dois aprendem a conviver, e uma das melhores falas de Pedro Coelho é quando ele questiona se será um herói ou apenas um lunático, já que a linha divisória entre os dois é tênue e difícil de distinguir. Isso é sempre verdade, porque heróis às vezes fazem coisas insanas que podem prejudicar a si mesmos e aos outros.

  A história é fluida e o final é feliz, pois torcemos tanto por Thomas quanto por Peter. Apesar de seus problemas, eles parecem bons personagens que só precisam aprender a conviver. Talvez seja isso que falta na maioria das pessoas que fazem escolhas ruins: lutar contra os outros. Elas só precisam entender o que as leva a tomar decisões egoístas e precisam aprender que o mundo é grande e cheio de pessoas diferentes.
