Tarot: A movie about cursing astrology cards.

  I was curious to watch "Tarot" since it popped up in my home screen on Netflix. So yeah, why not? For some reason, I thought it was another movie that I saw on social media the teaser where there was a girl going to a table with a tarot fortune, looking more like a different reality sci-fi stuff. But bad on me for not checking the trailer. Anyways the movie can be classified as a regular hunting bad spirit that haunts a group of teenagers. It doesn't look original, but at least I don't remember any movie focusing so much on astrology like this one.

  The actors are mostly unknown, the only ones that people saw somewhere is the funny Paxton that I saw him and thought "where did I see this face before", and now just googling I know that he was the geek friend, partial sidekick, from Peter Parker in the Spider-Man Homecoming movie from 2017. This movie "Tarot" is from 2024, and it is one of those movies that I don't even remember that it was on the theatres and never showed up on my radar.

  "Tarot" is about a set of cursed Tarot cards and basically, the predictions really happen in a way of dying. In additionthe creepy moments are the tarot cards' characters that are monstruous and the card chosen for each prediction will kill this person. It isn't a movie that tells that astrology and tarot is real, it is basically an evil spirit that was betrayed in the past, decides to use the Tarot to kill their victims.

  The friends start to die and of course, the only question that is left in the end is whether the main character will die or not. We always question in most of the Horror movies that we watch nowadays are basically two questions: Is the main character going to day and also if the curse will survive somehow. In the end, the only twist was that for some miraculous reason, Paxton, who was just a secondary character, survived. We didn't see his death, but there was a tarot monster in front of him, and the director totally left a huge hole in the story, allowing him to survive because he was found by a friend before the death by the monster. So the monster/ghost was afraid of this friend? Actually, it was also part of the tarot reading that "he was going to show as a surprise for their friends". Whatever, that part was "meh" for me.

  The movie is entertaining, it checks all the boxes for a regular horror movie with a bad spirit cursing young adults, the end in general was ok except the reappearance of a secondary character like Paxton that should be dead. No amazing twists but a fun movie for horror fans.

  Fiquei curiosa para assistir "Tarot" porque apareceu na minha tela inicial da Netflix. Então, por que não? Por algum motivo, achei que fosse outro filme que vi nas redes sociais, aquele teaser com uma garota indo até uma mesa com uma leitura de tarô, parecendo mais uma ficção científica de outra realidade. Mas a culpa foi minha por não ter assistido ao trailer. Enfim, o filme pode ser classificado como uma típica história de caça a espíritos malignos que assombram um grupo de adolescentes. Não parece original, mas pelo menos não me lembro de nenhum filme que tenha focado tanto em astrologia como esse.

  Os atores são em sua maioria desconhecidos; o único que as pessoas viram em algum lugar foi o engraçado Paxton, que eu vi e pensei "onde já vi esse rosto antes?", e agora, pesquisando no Google, descobri que ele era o amigo nerd, meio que um parceiro, do Peter Parker no filme Homem-Aranha: De Volta ao Lar, de 2017. Este filme, "Tarot", é de 2024, e é um daqueles filmes que eu nem me lembro que passou nos cinemas e nunca apareceu no meu radar.

  "Tarot" é sobre um conjunto de cartas de tarô amaldiçoadas e, basicamente, as previsões realmente se concretizam de uma forma que leva à morte. Além disso, os momentos assustadores são os personagens monstruosos das cartas de tarô, e a carta escolhida para cada previsão matará a pessoa. Não é um filme que afirma que astrologia e tarô são reais, mas sim sobre um espírito maligno que foi traído no passado e decide usar o tarô para matar suas vítimas.

  Os amigos começam a morrer e, claro, a única pergunta que resta no final é se o personagem principal vai morrer ou não. As perguntas que sempre fazemos na maioria dos filmes de terror a que assistimos hoje em dia são basicamente duas: o personagem principal vai sobreviver e se a maldição vai resistir de alguma forma. No final, a única reviravolta foi que, por algum motivo milagroso, Paxton, que era apenas um personagem secundário, sobreviveu. Não vimos sua morte, mas havia um monstro de tarô na frente dele, e o diretor deixou uma enorme lacuna na história, permitindo que ele sobrevivesse porque foi encontrado por um amigo antes de ser morto pelo monstro. Então o monstro/fantasma tinha medo desse amigo? Na verdade, isso também fazia parte da leitura de tarô, que "ele ia mostrar como uma surpresa para os amigos". Tanto faz, essa parte foi "tanto faz" para mim.

  O filme é divertido, cumpre todos os requisitos de um filme de terror comum, com um espírito maligno amaldiçoando jovens adultos. O final, em geral, foi ok, exceto pelo reaparecimento de um personagem secundário como Paxton, que deveria estar morto. Sem reviravoltas surpreendentes, mas um filme divertido para fãs de terror.
