Well, one thing that in every Halloween happens is a release by the horror director Mike Flanagan. As a horror fan, he has been amazing me with his identity in these releases. Let's cite a few characteristics: His releases aren't aways the top advertised ones on Netflix, so you realize that it is his tv show after searching around. For example when you see the title and images from "The Midnight Club" it gives a sense that it is a Halloween show focused on teenagers, with some "Scooby Doo" investigation feeling, but then when you watch the trailer you see that it is half true. It has something more.

Another thing is the great originality that the author is having year after year. Every past Tv show has a different subject and style! It started with "The Haunting of Hill House ", an amazing mini-series with the subject of a hunting house, but with different ghosts with a mix of time travel and butterfly effect. Two years later he brought "The Haunting of Bly Manor" which you thought would have similar aspects to the first hunted house but the real cause of the ghosts is love. Then he brought a totally new subject with the "Midnight Mass", which looks like a tribute to Stephen King, using a supernatural creature that takes the place of God, bringing some discussion around religion using the supernatural. And now with "The Midnight Club" he mixes a bit of teen investigation with a different hunted aspect of death by itself. How, do teens deal with their death sentence, such as terminal cancer. But also he shows that their disease isn't the only thing that hunt them, most of the kids show that they did things that they regret themselves in their lives. One thing that is also interesting is that the most creepy parts are from the stories told and invented by the kids in their midnight club.

The only thing that the director repeats, is his suspense style , without using any soundtrack, only environmental sounds in the moment of a suspense scene and also he brings most of the actors that acted in the previous shows, which gives him like a Tarantino touch, in my point of view, in addition to his different ways to tribute different movie styles and authors, such as Stephen King last year.

I still didn't finish the show, there are 10 episodes, I am in the middle of the 9th, I don't know yet about the end but I guess that for sure it will have an unexpected end for this show. I am already thinking in the next Flanagan's release, maybe next year? If you are a horror fan and don't know Mike Flanagan's products, please start ASAP.

I liked this series, without being the best in the world, it is entertaining and their stories are quite original.... I read that they will not release a second season, but hopefully they will change their mind 😔
