ENGLISH

Yesterday, March 24, was a very important day for Argentina. It was The National Day of Memory for Truth and Justice, which is the day on which the victims of the last military dictatorship, self-styled "National Reorganization Process", are commemorated in Argentina. usurped by the government of the Argentine national state between March 24, 1976 and December 10, 1983.
Yesterday marked the 47th anniversary of that unforgettable date for our country, and like every year, a march is held so as not to forget the events that occurred in that Military Dictatorship headed by Jorge Rafael Videla, Emilio Massera and Orlando Agosti and Although there are testimonies of torture and previous arrests, that is the day that is taken as the initial date of the period of State terrorism.

Today we are going to talk about the movie "Argentina, 1985", a film directed by Santiago Mitre and starring Ricardo Darín, Peter Lanzani, Alejandra Flechner and Norman Briski.

HISTORIC CONTEXT

The Trial of the Military Juntas (or Trial of the Juntas as it is historically known) is an exceptional case in world history, in which a civilian court supported by a newly established democratic government, prosecutes nine of the top ten military commanders of the first three military juntas that had led the recently ended dictatorship between 1976 and 1982, but still had the support of military power.

Military Junta of 1976-1983 on trial.

Three days after the democratic government took office, succeeding the civic-military dictatorship calling itself the National Reorganization Process, a State terrorism regime with a balance of thousands of disappeared and tortured people, President Raúl Alfonsín signed on December 13, 1983 a decree ordering the trial of the military members of the first three military juntas, accusing them of conceiving and implementing "an operations plan against subversive and terrorist activity, based on manifestly illegal methods and procedures." Two days later, Alfonsín created the National Commission on the Disappearance of Persons (Conadep) to gather testimonies and evidence on human rights violations. Twelve days later, Congress unanimously approved a law ignoring the legality of a de facto rule issued by the last Military Junta granting amnesty to those who had committed crimes during its course.

REVIEW

It was a difficult time in the country, where, although democracy had returned, many people who supported the trial and imprisonment of military leaders, there was still fear of disappearances. You couldn't freely speak your mind and be against them, since they were being persecuted, even though it was "ILLEGAL" right now.
Strassera (Ricardo Darín) was appointed as Prosecutor for the complainants' side and his objective was to imprison the 1976 Military Junta, together with the Deputy Prosecutor Luis Gabriel Moreno Ocampo (Peter Lanzani).

Strassera (Darín) and Moreno Ocampo (Lanzani)

After forming a team led by young people to carry out the trial (due to a strategy, since the professionals were afraid to participate or were "fachos" who supported the Military Government), they began to look for testimonies to present in court, and many of them came to touch the hearts of the people, which was the main objective to put pressure on the Judges at that time.

The trial itself began on April 22, 1985, and the hearings lasted until August of that year. In some 530 hours of hearing, 839 witnesses testified, most of them survivors of the clandestine detention centers set up to torture and exterminate, or their relatives. Documentary and expert evidence was also presented. And many of them were forced to betray other anti-government members in order to go and capture them. Of course many of them were killed or left out in the open to die.

After several testimonies, the one who is the central and most important part that lived in that trial was that of Adriana Calvo, who tells her story when she was 9 months pregnant, who was tortured, raped and forced to do chores in that state.

Adriana Calvo, Testifying in Trial.

She tells how her baby was born while she was in a car with her hands tied and her eyes blindfolded, unable to do anything other than give birth without the necessary tools or the given conditions. And I won't tell you more because it's important to listen to it live. Undoubtedly, the most important and emotional moment of the film.

It was so important in the trial that the mother of Luis Gabriel Moreno Ocampo, who was a defender of the Military Junta, managed to change her mind, saying that they had to go to jail. And just as she was able to understand the situation, the Argentine people understood that what they experienced between 1976 and 1983 was not normal, but rather the most atrocious event that Argentina experienced.

The Federal Chamber finally handed down its sentence on December 9, 1985, condemning five of the accused soldiers and acquitting four. Jorge Rafael Videla and Emilio Massera were sentenced to life imprisonment; Roberto Eduardo Viola was sentenced to 17 years in prison; Armando Lambruschini was sentenced to eight years in prison, and Orlando Ramón Agosti was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

RATING: 10 💡

I have no doubt that it is a film that is not meant to surprise people, nor to buy filmmakers or viewers. It is a film/documentary about what happened in Argentina.
It perfectly conveys the historical context, from the fear that the prosecutors had, the anti-military government people and what those kidnapped people suffered. The DISinformation of the Government towards the people who managed to govern through FEAR and REPRESSION, coming to kill thousands of people just FOR THINKING.

The score is a 10 because I consider that it is very well set, the characters are very descriptive and each one plays a role that makes you feel at that time. Adriana Calvo's story is one of the scenes that struck me the most, and it is something that remains forever. It is one of the movies that makes you feel like you belong to a nation, a documentary that reminds us that there was a time when you couldn't think differently, and if you didn't, you'd be murdered. A work of art by Santiago Mitre.
Too bad it didn't win the Oscar, but it's certainly one of the best I've ever seen, and that's why this is my first post in this community.

Yesterday, March 24, a march was held in various parts of the country to ask for JUSTICE for the more than 30,000 disappeared and that such an atrocious event NEVER happen again.

I had the opportunity to go because my girlfriend's uncle was one of the disappeared, and in 2015 they found his remains in one of the clandestine centers in the city of La Plata, Buenos Aires.

The objective is to collectively build a day of reflection and critical analysis of recent history. In schools it is proposed as a day for children and young people, together with managers, teachers and all members of the educational and local community to understand the scope of the serious economic, social and political consequences of the last military dictatorship and actively engage in defending the validity of the rights and guarantees established by the National Constitution, and the democratic political system.

Hundreds of thousands of people gather and march for MEMORY, TRUTH AND JUSTICE. Many "May Grandmothers" are still looking for their grandchildren, and there are more than 300 of those who still do not know where those babies who were kidnapped as newborns are.
And the working people continue marching every year in search of JUSTICE that is not yet complete.
Thousands of family members continue to fight for the truth to be known, that each military officer who tortured and killed this prisoner. That social condemnation is not enough when with such impunity each person was kidnapped from their homes and tortured in such a way that they achieved the death of innocent people who only wanted JUSTICE.

May something like this NEVER happen again. May everyone take this phrase as a legacy to keep alive the memory of the struggles and achievements of a society that has known how to resist adversity and defend human dignity.

It would be best if you could also give the source of the image. Next time, make sure that you're properly sourcing it because otherwise, it will be counted as plagiarism as you're essentially using image that is not yours and making money from it. Anyhow, overall a nice review as you provide a historical context to it as well.
