[The Future of Sony and Discs]
Hideo Kojima has spoken out about Sony's latest decision. It's a fairly standard comment, so I won't spend any more time on it. However, the more I read/listen to opinions on this topic, the more possible futures I see. Not necessarily bleak ones; a lot can change along the way, sometimes in areas we wouldn't have predicted.
It will always be possible to support the AA market – plenty of games will continue to release on PS5. AAA games can be left to the wealthiest and... Actually, this has happened at least once before. Except we've never had so many great and easily accessible independent games. In my case, it's harder because Sony is holding me back, but... If I moved to PC, the physical disc issue would cease to exist for me.

[Microsoft massacres its brands]
A few days ago, a real bloodbath erupted. More than half of Id Software's employees lost their jobs (which doesn't surprise me; TDA was a failure and sold poorly, so they didn't earn much. I wonder what their future holds. Other companies have faced a similar fate; a total of 1,600 employees lost their jobs, and according to some sources, the number may be as high as 4,800). Where does the 4,800 figure come from? Apparently, there were more layoffs, plus another 1,600 employees will lose their jobs in 2027 (a brilliant idea to convince them to work on more games that are supposed to make you money, well done, Microsoft clowns!). It's only 2.1%, but we're talking about a behemoth, not a small company that made a double-A game.
I hope there'll be at least a 5 or 10-year break after the TDA DLC. Let them take a complete break from Doom and Quake, and create something new outside the FPS genre. However, Doom 4 and Doom 5 drained so much of id's creativity that they had leftovers for TDA. I'll probably post my review on Sunday or a few days after, and... I'm not satisfied with this game.

Hideo Kojima wypowiedział się na temat ostatniej decyzji Sony. Komentarz jest dość standardowy, więc nie będę mu poświęcał więcej czasu. Niemniej im więcej czytam / słucham wypowiedzi na ten temat, tym więcej widzę możliwych przyszłości. Niekoniecznie tych czarnych, wiele może się zmienić po drodze i to czasem w takim obszarze, którego byśmy nie przewidzieli.
Zawsze będzie można wspierać rynek AA - mnóstwo gier będzie ciągle wychodzić na PS5. Gry AAA można zostawić dla najbogatszych i... W sumie to już tak co najmniej raz było. Tylko że jeszcze nigdy nie mieliśmy tylu świetnych i łatwo dostępnych niezależnych gier. W moim przypadku jest trudniej, bo Sony mnie trzyma za jaja, ale...
