This is my entry to @galenkp’s Weekend Engagement #108. I picked the second topic.

Weekend of solitude

You're spending the weekend totally alone between Friday night and Sunday night. What do you do, where do you go, if anywhere, and why? Explain your answers.

It’s been a while since I last spent a weekend of solitude. Weekends are usually my busiest days of the week because work never stops and domestic chores always demand some attention. Additionally, there's always some visitor or someone who wants us to visit them and the weekend is supposed to be the zero-excuse time for that.

I like to be alone. I always have. I never get bored. There is always something pending to do, whether it is work or leisure. There are hundreds of books I bought when I was in grad school and to the date I have not been able to read. Terra Nostra is one of those books. I bought it more than 15 years ago and it has been going down the waiting list to the point that sometimes I think I will never read it. Unfortunately, it is not the kind of book that you may easily sell here and at least make some money out of it. It has almost 800 pages and it’s in English.

Besides, the cover does not look very encouraging. I hope I do not end up hanging myself after reading it.

I am looking forward to a weekend in solitude. No work, no visitors, no distractions. I may go out just to get some groceries, snack, and some liquor. I am not a drinker, but I can enjoy a drink or two on special occasions and, why not, in the privacy of my weekend.

I would also like to spend more time on Hive. It’s been a while since I last fully participated in different activities and communities. There are always fun contests I have not been part of in a while. There are users that I can call friends, but whose blogs I have not visited properly in months. So, a free peaceful weekend may give me the chance to catch up a little.

I love to watch movies and series too. There is a long list of those I have not watched yet. I have grown increasingly critical of movies and the list had actually shrunk, but it is still pretty long. Some genres, like horror, I don't watch anymore (I had enough of vampires, zombies, and movies that rely more on noise than on a scary and compelling story). I have been trying to watch more international movies; movies in languages other than English and Spanish, as well as documentaries. I am tired of the hype about super hero movies. I think that the last six or seven have been quite disappointing and I don’t think the upcoming ones will change that.

Anyway, there are not many good places here in Cumaná that I’d like to visit on a weekend. I’d rather order food than go to a restaurant or bar. I feel very uncomfortable now around people. I feel like the gap has widened and it’s not just generational. People here are more abusive, more impolite, louder, and more prone to cause trouble to themselves and to others. I just don’t feel at ease in any public place these days.

Thus, a weekend of solitude for me would be a quiet time to rest, drink, read, watch movies and hive on.
