According to NBC this is canonically season six of the series. So technically same series. For me they jump back to the present too often taking away from Dr. Ben Song's side of the story. Also they pile too many mysteries into the first season for my taste. Otherwise it's O.K. Maybe the clues of why Dr. Song leapt will have a big payoff but I worry they are overhyping and will underdeliver.
