A happy review of Entergalactic [ENG-ESP]

Synopsis: Jabari is an artist about to begin an important stage in his career, and he has to deal with the changes around his work. Meanwhile, he decides what to do to find the right partner for him in a city like New York.
When I talked about the new era of American animation, I hinted that I was looking forward to this project. This is a work that changed format surprisingly, but that may have been the best thing for it. Entergalactic is a very different experience and relies heavily on its launching pad to deliver what it presents.
Other good animations had already been born in streaming. Some were American, some were Japanese, and there have even been projects by Latino directors. Hollywood, of course, is behind it all. The classic industry never disappeared and never will. Rather, it has grown stronger. Even Berserk is being rescued by Warner to tell us, once again, of the Golden Age (not a complaint, though).
But the Golden Age I came here to talk about is that of animation, and this madness only reaffirms that we are moving in a very good direction. Entergalactic is a clear sign that the West is taking the art of animation very seriously.
This thing is a romantic seinen made in America. That's something I needed. I wanted it with all my heart. I wanted to see truly adult themes in big animated productions made outside of Japan with well-kept art, and that's Entergalactic.
But hey... Nothing can be perfect. Entergalactic manages to deliver an interesting plot with just the right details for an excellent hook. This special is fun, sensory captivating, and easily becomes relaxing.
The only problem with Entergalactic is that it comes in the most basic romantic comedy packaging. The plot is predictable, but it works nonetheless. That's a great achievement, and for that, I respect its simplicity. It's rightly aimed at a wide audience.
I would have preferred a different story, but what Entergalactic tells is enough to make it worth returning to the same flavour with a new topping. I think the features could have been exceptional, but it is only mildly refreshing and very enjoyable. It's a good product that doesn't overcomplicate itself.
Every good story must have good characters, and Entergalactic is a good story. Jabari is an excellent protagonist. I think it's important in this genre that the protagonist is someone you can understand, and that's very well achieved in him. It possibly helps that Kid Cudi has put a lot of himself into it.
Unfortunately, the supporting characters are great, they have a lot of charisma, but they get little screen time. The story needed more time to take advantage of those interactions, but it's appreciated that the ones that are there are adequately justified. The main characters' acquaintances help them gain a new perspective, but rarely affect their decisions. Those kinds of details are very much appreciated. They implemented good resources to generate a more robust story from the simple.
I must make it clear that "simple" is not nearly bad or boring. I use the term to mean minimalist, but not necessarily sloppy, execution. It's like the distant backgrounds used in the shots in this work. They look like random, hurried brushstrokes, but if you don't see them directly they blend into the scene.
The art in Enterglactic is striking, but the animation is suitably simple. It seems to follow the legacy of Into The Spiderverse with a nice personal touch. I loved everything about it. What I enjoyed most about his art isn't the composition, it's that it feels like the work of an artist who had a well-established vision.
In this kind of work, there is never just one person involved, but in this case, it seems like Kid Cudi knew exactly what he was doing. Either he surrounded himself with the right people or he made sure that every detail fit perfectly into his concept. I salute his creativity.
I guess the music honours go entirely to Cudi. The mastermind behind Entergalactic has my respect as a great musical artist, but currently, I feel he is much more than that. Entergalactic can't and won't be called a movie. This story has escaped the most obvious definitions and takes refuge in the ease of a format that is just beginning to be explored.

Cuando hablé de la nueva era de la animación americana, insinué que me hacía ilusión este proyecto. Se trata de una obra que cambió de formato sorprendentemente, pero eso puede haber sido lo mejor para ella. Entergalactic es una experiencia muy diferente y se apoya mucho en su plataforma de lanzamiento para ofrecer lo que presenta.
Otras buenas animaciones ya habían nacido en streaming. Algunas eran estadounidenses, otras japonesas e incluso ha habido proyectos de directores latinos. Hollywood, por supuesto, está detrás de todo esto. La industria clásica nunca ha desaparecido ni lo hará. Más bien, se ha fortalecido. Incluso Berserk está siendo rescatado por Warner para contarnos, una vez más, de la Edad de Oro (aunque no es una queja).
Pero la Edad de Oro de la que vengo a hablar es la de la animación, y esta locura no hace más que reafirmar que vamos en muy buena dirección. Entergalactic es una clara señal de que Occidente se está tomando muy en serio el arte de la animación.a
Esto es un seinen romántico hecho en América. Eso es algo que yo necesitaba ver. Lo quería con todo mi corazón. Quería ver temas verdaderamente adultos en grandes producciones de animación hechas fuera de Japón con un arte bien cuidado, y eso es Entergalactic.
Pero bueno... Nada puede ser perfecto. Entergalactic consigue ofrecer una trama interesante con los detalles justos para poseer un excelente gancho. Este especial es divertido, sensorialmente cautivador, y se convierte fácilmente en relajante.
El único problema de Entergalactic es que viene en el envoltorio más básico de una comedia romántica. La trama es predecible, pero aun así funciona. Eso es un gran logro, y por eso respeto su sencillez. Está correctamente dirigida a un público amplio.
Hubiera preferido una historia diferente, pero lo que cuenta Entergalactic es suficiente para que merezca la pena volver al comer del mismo sabor con un nuevo topping. Creo que las características podrían haber sido excepcionales, pero lo que tienes es ligeramente refrescante y muy agradable. Es un buen producto que no se complica en exceso para serlo.
Toda buena historia debe tener buenos personajes, y Entergalactic es una buena historia. Jabari es un excelente protagonista. Creo que es importante en este género que el protagonista sea alguien a quien puedas entender, y eso está muy bien conseguido en él. Posiblemente ayude que Kid Cudi haya puesto mucho de sí mismo en él.
Por desgracia, los personajes secundarios son geniales,gozan de mucho carisma, pero tienen poco tiempo en pantalla. La historia necesitaba de más minutos para aprovechar esas interacciones, pero se agradece que las que hay estén adecuadamente justificadas. Los conocidos de los protagonistas les ayudan a adquirir una nueva perspectiva, pero rara vez afectan a sus decisiones. Ese tipo de detalles se agradecen mucho. Implementaron buenos recursos para generar una historia más robusta desde lo simple.
Debo aclarar que "simple" no significa ni mucho menos malo o aburrido. Utilizo el término para referirme a una ejecución minimalista, pero no necesariamente descuidada. Es como los fondos lejanos utilizados en los planos de esta obra. Parecen pinceladas aleatorias y apresuradas, pero si no se ven directamente se funden en la escena como deberían.
El arte de Enterglactic es llamativo, pero la animación es convenientemente sencilla. Parece seguir el legado de Into The Spiderverse con un agradable toque personal. Me ha encantado todo. Lo que más me gustó de su arte no es la composición, sino que parece el trabajo de un artista que tenía una visión bien establecida.
En este tipo de trabajos, nunca hay una sola persona involucrada, pero en este caso, parece que Kid Cudi sabía exactamente lo que estaba haciendo. O se rodeó de la gente adecuada o se aseguró de que cada detalle encajara perfectamente en su concepto.
Supongo que los honores de la música son totalmente para Cudi. El cerebro detrás de Entergalactic tiene mi respeto como gran artista musical, pero actualmente, siento que es mucho más que eso. Entergalactic no puede ni quiere llamarse película. Esta historia ha escapado a las definiciones más obvias y se refugia en la facilidad de un formato que apenas comienza a ser explorado.
Primera vez que escucho sobre esta película animada, pero por lo que veo en las imágenes tienes toda la razón al decir que es una obra maestra de la animación, es una bella representación que realmente merece ser aplaudida, así como el trabajo del arte japonés, se nota la calidad detrás de este hermoso trabajo a simple vista, no me imagino como ser ver la película completa, y doy Gracias porque de verdad todavía existen excelentes artistas en el arte de la animación, pensé que ya no había nada de eso, excelente recomendación.
I have been keeping this one in my to-do list for a long time now, not because I'm dodging it, but because watching animation needs a certain vibe for it to feel relevant and to make it a generally positive experience, and i like to read your words, because now i know that i have to keep it in my list until im fit and ready to enjoy it, instead of wasting my shot on loving a series that might work for me :)
