Cine TV Contest #25 - Favorite Getaway/Vacation Movie [ENG-ESP]
Greetings friends of Cine TV, I am pleased to participate in another of your interesting contests. The theme for this occasion is vacations, we are just in that month when children finish classes and it is the ideal time for a well-deserved rest and go out for a family outing. There are many movies that deal with the vacation theme and this contest invites us to review our favorite movie.
Saludos amigos de Cine TV, me complace participar en otro de sus interesantes concursos. La temática para esta ocasión son las vacaciones, justo estamos en ese mes cuando los niños terminan clases y es el momento ideal para un merecido descanso y salir de paseo en familia. Son muchas las películas que abordan el tema de las vacaciones y este concurso nos invita reseñar cual nuestra película favorita.
Going on vacation is the most awaited after a hard year of work, we want to go on a trip, visit new places and share the best moments in the company of our loved ones and friends.
Salir de vacaciones es lo más esperado luego de un arduo año de trabajo, deseamos irnos de viaje, conocer nuevos lugares y compartir los mejores momentos en compañía de nuestros seres queridos y amigos.
I have seen many movies about vacations, however, two of them stayed in my heart for different reasons, both are fun, with the caveat that one of them has a very special reason to see life differently and enjoy a well-deserved vacation.
He visto muchas películas sobre vacaciones, no obstante, dos de ellas se quedaron en mi corazón por distintas razones, ambas son divertidas, con la salvedad de que una de ellas tiene un motivo muy especial para ver la vida de otra manera y disfrutar de unas merecidas vacaciones.
Last Holiday // Últimas vacaciones
This 2006 film stars Queen Latifah, who plays the character of Georgia Byrd, a humble worker in a department store in New Orleans. This woman is like a teenage girl who writes her experiences in a diary, secretly loves a co-worker Sean Williams (LL Cool J) and for a change is invisible to the owner of the store for whom she works, Matthew Kragen (Timothy Hutton).
Este film data del año 2006 y tiene como protagonista a Queen Latifah, quien interpreta al personaje de Georgia Byrd, una humilde trabajadora de un gran almacén ubicado en Nueva Orleans. Georgia's days were monotonous, however, everything changes when one day she decides to talk to Sean and has an accident, she hits her head and is taken to the hospital. There the doctor gives her sad news, the CAT scan shows that she has Lampington's, a rare disease in which several brain tumors develop.

Giorgia is no longer a shy woman, her personality takes an extroverted turn, and she realizes how wonderful life is. At the end she receives a big surprise and that is when her life comes to life and becomes colorful.

Queen Latifah's performance was spot on, in a role that framed comedy, drama and romance. She was able to show how affected she was when she received the news of her illness and made a life decision, perhaps the most important one. On the other hand, the drastic change in her personality was noticeable, more assertive, determined, outgoing and with an enthusiasm for life. This actress was capable of many facets and a very funny side.
La actuación de Queen Latifah fue muy acertada, en un rol que enmarca la comedia, el drama y el romance. Pudo demostrar cuán afectada fue recibir la noticia de su enfermedad y tomar una decisión de vida, quizás la más importante. Por otra parte, se notó el cambio drástico de su personalidad, más firme, decidida, extrovertida y con un entusiasmo ante la vida. Esta actriz fue capaz de muchas facetas y un lado muy divertido.
Another outstanding performance was that of Timothy Hutton, who played a comic and suspicious villain, I was used to seeing him in more dynamic roles, such as in action and drama movies. In his role as Matthew Kragen, he was an arrogant, wealthy, eccentric man, to the point of not knowing who worked for him and did not realize that the woman who caught his attention was the invisible Georgia, an employee of his store whom, despite her simplicity, he came to envy.
Otra actuación destacada fue la de Timothy Hutton, quien encarnó a un villano cómico y suspicaz, Estaba acostumbrada a verlo en papeles más dinámicos, como en películas de acción y drama. En su rol de Matthew Kragen, era un hombre arrogante, de mucho dinero, excéntrico, al punto de no saber quienes trabajaban para él y no se dio cuenta que esa mujer que captó su atención era la invisible Georgia, una empleada de su tienda a quien pese a su sencillez llegó a envidiar.
What I liked about the film // Lo que me gustó de la película
It is a comedy that combines perfectly with romance and some drama, as our main character thinks he is going to die. He wants to be happy the last days he has left and goes on a trip, hence the title of the movie, "the last vacation". What I liked about the film is the fun of the plot and all the scenes that arise after receiving the diagnosis of her illness and the suspicion raised by this woman who just wanted to enjoy the last days of her life. A series of entanglements that manage to trap the viewer until the longed-for happy ending.
Es una comedia que se combina a la perfección con el romance y algo de drama, pues nuestro personaje principal piensa que va a morir. Quiere ser feliz los últimos días que le quedan y se va de viaje, de allí el título de la película, “las últimas vacaciones”. Lo que me gustó de la película es lo divertido de la trama y todas la escenas que se suscitan tras recibir el diagnóstico de su enfermedad y la suspicacia que levantó esta mujer que solo quería disfrutar los últimos días de su vida. Una serie de enredos que logran atrapar al espectador hasta el anhelado final feliz.
Getting to know Europe is a dream, and of course, enjoying the presidential suite and all the luxuries of a hotel with many stars. Not to mention the beautiful costumes and the best gastronomy of the place, worthy of the great chefs.
Conocer Europa es un sueño, y por supuesto, disfrutar de la suite presidencial y todos los lujos de un hotel con mucha estrellas. Sin mencionar los hermosos trajes y la mejor gastronomía del lugar, digno de los grandes chef.

Giorgia wasted a lot of time being an inhibited woman, unable to express her feelings and who had to wait for a fatal diagnosis to go on vacation, enjoy life and be more outgoing. She dared to do things she never imagined because she began to live as if it was the last day of her life.
Giorgia perdió mucho tiempo siendo una mujer inhibida, incapaz de expresar sus sentimientos y que tuvo que esperar un diagnóstico fatal para salir de vacaciones, disfrutar de la vida y ser más extrovertida. I have always thought that the moment is now, that as long as we can look for happiness we have to do it. Every year I used to go on vacation, we all need it, that moment of escape, of relaxation that helps us to recharge our energies to go on with our routines. We don't have to wait for a special occasion to dress up and use the best perfume we have ever bought, the special occasion is every day, it's life itself and that's enough. Maybe you can not always, but opportunities arise and we must not let them pass, then, is when we can give us those tastes, to eat what we like so much and decide to try new cuisines, meet people and other places and not settle for the "usual".
Siempre he pensado que el momento es ahora, que mientras podamos buscar la felicidad hay que hacerlo. Todos los años yo solía salir de vacaciones, todos lo necesitamos, ese momento de escape, de relax que nos ayuda a recargar las energías para seguir adelante con nuestras rutinas. No hay que esperar una ocasión especial para vestirnos bien y usar el mejor perfume que hayamos comprado, La ocasión especial es todos los días, es la vida misma y ya eso es bastante. Quizás no siempre se pueda, pero se presentan oportunidades y no hay que dejarlas pasar, entonces, es cuando podemos darnos esos gustos, de comer lo que tanto nos gusta y decidirnos a probar nuevas gastronomías, conocer personas y otros lugares y no conformarnos con lo de “siempre”.

There are many funny scenes, but the one I remember most was when beavers invaded the camper and the Monroes had to wait for hours for a gas to take effect to keep the animals away. Then it rains and the whole family soaks up the torrential downpour outside the camper until it gets dark. Then, looking for a place to eat, they slip through a field and accidentally arrive at a place full of restaurants, all muddy with puddles.
Son muchas las escenas divertidas, pero la que más recuerdo fue cuando unos castores invadieron el camper y los Monroe tuvieron que esperar por horas que un gas hiciera efecto para alejar a los animales. The other scene that caused me a lot of laughter was when Jamie Monroe starts singing while listening to the music with headphones.

All the scenes when the Monroes were running away from the Gornickes were very funny and thanks to those outbursts they destroy almost the entire caravan.

Robin Williams' performance was impeccable, he is a natural comedian who amuses us in every scene. His role is the typical family man who does everything to maintain a good standard of living for his family. Behind his family's back he works nights while they sleep. It made me laugh when he climbed on trees or mountains to get a signal and send the information by WI-FI. His family saw him as a workaholic and when they realize that the plan to go to Colorado is for a work meeting, they are disappointed in him. As the days go by, they realize his sacrifice and the family comes to understand that it is best to be united regardless of the luxuries.
La actuación de Robin Williams fue impecable, es un comediante innato que nos divierte en cada escena. Su papel es el típico hombre de familia que hace de todo por mantener un buen nivel de vida para los suyos. A espaldas de su familia trabaja por las noches mientras ellos duermen. Me causaba mucha risa que se subía sobre árboles o montañas para conseguir señal y enviar la información por WI-FI. Su familia lo veía como un adicto al trabajo y cuando se dan cuenta que el plan de ir a Colorado es por una reunión de trabajo, se decepcionan de él. Con el pasar de los días, se dan cuenta de su sacrificio y la familia logra entender que lo mejor es estar unidos sin importar los lujos.
Actress Cheryl Hines (Jamie Monroe) I don't remember seeing her in other films, but in "Crazy Vacation on Wheels" she showed a very natural side of comedy, to the point of making me laugh in several of the scenes where she is involved.

Jojo (Cassie Monroe), I didn't know she was a famous singer, a little girl with a great voice. She performs a song that I really like, "Get out". Her role was that of a typical teenager who is trendy and wants to have fun on vacation. At first she doesn't understand her father, she is rebellious, but then everything changes when she realizes her sacrifice to make them all happy and give them quality of life. Her acting was quite good.

What I hated about the movie // Lo que odié de la película
While there are many scenes that amused me a lot, I was a bit bored by the part where Jamie Monroe and the boys, tired of Bob's addiction to work, abandon him and walk off into the woods with their course lost. On the way the Gornicke's show up and as usual rescue them.

This movie reminded me of my childhood days, when in the month of August we would go on vacation and take long road trips. The whole family would go and it was one of the moments we most enjoyed together. Each one of those moments was treasured in each photograph and we looked forward to the next vacation to see new places.
Esta película me recordó los tiempos de mi niñez, cuando en la época del mes de agosto salíamos de vacaciones y emprendíamos largos viajes por carretera. Iba toda la familia y era uno de los momentos que más disfrutábamos juntos. Cada uno de esos momentos era atesorado en cada fotografía y esperábamos con ansias las siguientes vacaciones para conocer nuevos lugares.
I would have loved to travel in an RV, the kids in the movie hated it, more because of how sophisticated it was and Bob didn't know how to operate it. I think it can be fun to travel in an RV, the important thing is to spend time as a family. Bob lacked character and allowed his boss to manipulate him, to the point of spoiling his vacation and inconveniencing his family.
Me hubiese encantado viajar en una casa rodante, los chicos de la película lo odiaban, más por lo sofisticado que era y Bob no lo sabía operar. Creo que puede ser divertido viajar en una casa rodante, lo importante es pasar el tiempo en familia. A Bob le faltó carácter y permitía que su jefe lo manipulara, al punto de echarle a perder sus vacaciones e incomodar a su familia.
Another thing I saw in the film is that sometimes people are judged by their appearance without knowing them well. The Monroe's were running away from the Gornicke's all the time even though the Gornicke's were always nice to them and willing to help them. In the end, they realize that they are good people and become friends.
Otra de las cosas que vi en el film es que hay veces que se juzgan a las personas por su apariencia y sin conocerlas bien. Los Monroe huían de los Gornicke todo el tiempo pese que estos siempre eran amables con ellos y estaban dispuestos a ayudarlos. Al final, se dan cuenta que son buenas personas y se hacen amigos.
