These are my favorite movie soundtracks [ENG-ESP]

Greetings, dear friends @youhive. While browsing @avdesing’s posts and interacting with her in the travel community, I saw a post on her profile that caught my attention: movie soundtracks—a topic I’ve always loved. In fact, I once participated in a contest on one of the movie communities. It’s the topic of the month, and I love it—I really decided to participate and share my perspective on it. Soundtracks are crucial in any film; they add intensity to the scenes. If it’s a drama, it feels like our own; if it’s an action, fiction, or fun scene like those in Back to the Future, we feel happy and excited about what’s going to happen; if it’s a horror film, the fear intensifies even more.
Soundtracks sometimes replace dialogue and foreshadow what’s to come—suspense, horror, romance, sadness, and even great fun that later brings us lots of laughter and smiles. Although I won’t post the video, I remember a very old horror movie, The Omen. Just by hearing the chant, we knew something very bad was going to happen, and it left us frozen and speechless. We start to like certain songs simply because we hear them in our favorite movies—has that ever happened to you? At least that’s how it was for me with several movies. One of them is *The Butterfly Effect*, a movie starring Ashton Kutcher. The main character (Evan Treborn) set out to change the past to improve his life in the future and be with the woman he loved, Kayleigh Miller. When he saw that his attempts had failed, he made a decision that took him away from her forever.

Besides liking the song itself, there’s an important aspect I enjoy reflecting on: the song’s significance in relation to the movie. In the final scene of *The Butterfly Effect*, Evan Treborn and Kayleigh run into each other on the street, look at one another, and go their separate ways—he knowing who she was and what she had done. Despite everything, sadly, they couldn’t be together in the end. The song playing in that scene is “Stop Crying Your Heart Out” by Oasis, a British band. The title translates to something like “Stop Crying Your Heart Out,” referring to accepting what you can’t change, letting go of the past, wiping away your tears, and moving forward with life. Even though there are difficult moments in life, they don’t last forever.
Another soundtrack I really liked was the one from the movie *13 Going on 30*, starring Jennifer Garner as Jenna Rink. A 13-year-old girl wanted to be 30—a huge leap to escape the trials and tribulations of adolescence. I liked almost all the songs from this movie, including the “Thriller” dance by Michael Jackson (well, who doesn’t?), but I’ll just mention two of my favorites. The first was “Love Is a Battlefield” by Pat Benatar. In the scene, Jenna is at a sleepover with several 13-year-old girls who are complaining about love. During the conversation, Jenna tells them, “We’re young,” encouraging them not to give up because relationships aren’t easy and you have to fight for them like in a war, with the risk of getting hurt or coming out victorious. Then, they all dance to the song and have a lot of fun.

Another one of my favorite soundtracks from this same movie is the song “Vienna” by American singer Billy Joel. At 30, Jenna realizes she didn’t appreciate her teenage years or the time she spent with her parents, so she goes back to see them because she misses them. When she arrives at her parents’ house, she finds her room exactly as she left it, and she’s overcome with nostalgia for those years. The song “Vienna” is a call to reflection, a tribute to life, a call to calm, which is captured in one of its lines: “calm down, crazy kid.” We must live each stage, enjoy it, and let everything happen in its own time, because life isn’t a marathon.

Finally, another soundtrack that really made an impression on me was “Bitter sweet Symphony” by the English alternative rock band The Verve. This song was epic in the final scene of the movie “Cruel Intentions,” serving as a key part of the triumph of one of the main characters, Annette (Reese Witherspoon), over her step-siblings with corrupt and frivolous intentions, Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe). The film was released in 1999 and centers its plot on power, jealousy, money, gambling, sex, deception, vanity, discredit, and manipulation. The song’s lyrics urge us to find the true path in life, without looking back, just as the characters did in the film.

All these bands are great, and I liked them so much that I downloaded the songs to my iPod.

Saludos estimados amigos @youhive, revisando las publicaciones de @avdesing mientras hacía interacción con ella en la comunidad de viajes, vi en su perfil una publicación que llamó mi atención, bandas sonoras de temas de películas, un tópico que siempre me ha gustado y por allí alguna vez participé en un concurso propuesto en una de las comunidades de cine. Es el tema del mes y me encanta, de verdad me propuse a participar y compartir mi punto de vista al respecto. Las bandas sonoras son cruciales en todo film, trasmiten más intensidad a las escenas, si es drama, este se sentirá como nuestro, si es una escena de acción, ficción y diversión como las de Volver al futuro, nos sentimos alegres y expectantes de lo que va a suceder, si es de terror, el miedo se intensifica aún más.
Las bandas sonoras, en ocasiones reemplazan a los diálogos y preceden lo que vendrá, el suspenso, el horror, el romance, tristezas, hasta una gran diversión que luego nos saca muchas risas y sonrisas. Aunque no colocaré el video, recuerdo una película de terror muy antigua, La Profecía, con solo escuchar el cántico, ya sabíamos que algo muy malo iba a suceder, además de dejarnos helados y sin habla. Algunos temas musicales nos comienzan a gustar por el solo hecho de escucharlos en nuestras películas favoritas, les ha pasado?, al menos así me pasó a mí y con varias películas. Una de ellas es el “Efecto Mariposa”, película que protagonizó Asthon Kutcher. El personaje principal (Evan Treborn) se propuso a cambiar el pasado para mejorar su vida en el futuro y estar con la persona amada, Kayleigh Miller. Al ver que sus intentos fueron fallidos tomó una decisión que lo alejó de ella para siempre.

Además de gustarme el tema musical, hay un elemento importante que me agrada considerar, el significado de la canción en relación a la película. En la escena final del Efecto Mariposa, Evan Treborn y Kayleigh se topan en la calle, se miran y siguen su camino, él sabiendo quien era ella y lo que había hecho, pese a todo, tristemente, al final no pudieron estar juntos. La canción que suena en aquella escena es "Stop Crying Your Heart Out", de Oasis, una banda de origen británico. Traducido es algo así como “Deja de llorar desconsoladamente”, en alusión a aceptar lo que no puedes cambiar, soltar el pasado, limpiar las lágrimas y seguir adelante con la vida. Aunque en la vida hayan momentos difíciles, estos no duran para siempre.
Otra banda Sonora que me gustó mucho, fue la que tomó partido en la película “si tuviera 30”, protagonizada por Jennifer Garner, representando al personaje, Jenna Rink. Una chica de 13 años quería tener 30, un gran salto para evadir las dolencias propias de la adolescencia. De esta película me gustaron casi todos los temas musicales, incluyendo el baile de “Thriller” de Michael Jackson (bueno, a quien no?), no obstante, solo citaré dos de mis favoritas. La primera de ellas fue, “El amor es un campo de batalla”, de Pat Benatar, en la escena, Jenna está en una piyamada con varias chicas de 13 años que se quejan del amor. En la conversación, Jenna, les dice “somos jóvenes”, las motiva a no rendirse porque las relaciones no son fáciles y hay que hacer su lucha como en la guerra, con riesgos de ser lastimados o salir victoriosos. Luego, todas bailan la canción y se divierten mucho.

Otra de mis bandas sonoras favoritas de esta misma película es la canción “Vienna” del cantante estadounidense Billy Joel. Jenna, al tener 30, se da cuenta que no valoró su etapa de la adolescencia, el tiempo con sus padres y regresa a verlos porque los extraña. Al llegar a casa de sus padres, encuentra su cuarto igual como dejó y le invade la nostalgia de aquellos años. La canción “Vienna” es un llamado a la reflexión, es un tributo a la vida, un llamado a la calma, la cual cita en una de sus frases “cálmate, niño loco.” Debemos vivir cada etapa, disfrutarla, cada cosa en su tiempo, porque la vida no es un maratón.

Por último, otra banda sonora que me causó impacto fue “Sinfonía agridulce” de la banda inglesa de Rock alternativo The Verve. Esta canción fue épica en la escena final de la película “Juegos sexuales” ó “intenciones crueles”, como parte importante del triunfo de uno de los personajes principales, Annette (Reese Witherspoon), sobre los hermanastros con intensiones corruptas y frívolas, Kathryn (Sarah Michelle Gellar) y Sebastian (Ryan Phillippe). La película se estrenó en el año 1999 y centra su trama en el poder, los celos, el dinero, las apuestas, el sexo, los engaños, la vanidad, el descrédito y la manipulación. La letra de la canción exhorta a encontrar el verdadero camino de la vida, sin mirar atrás, tal como lo hicieron los personajes en la película.

You’re absolutely right; we come to know many songs or soundtracks through films, and it’s thanks to those films that we remember them. The first film you mention is one of my all-time favourites, particularly because of the subject matter, which fascinates me, and that song will always be associated with the final scene, where the protagonist tries to create the best possible future for his beloved, even if it means he has to suffer. I loved that choice.
The second soundtrack is intense and powerful in terms of the important life lessons it conveys, such as making the most of every stage of life because they won’t come back. I remember that film; I really liked it at the time!
Finally, the last soundtrack is very well known and the song is perfect for the film. I also remember when I saw it and that final part. What’s more, just like the previous one, the song offers messages and advice about what life is all about and what’s best. El efecto mariposa también es una de mis películas favoritas, de hecho, vi las tres películas, pero la canción épica la podemos escuchar en la primera de esta trilogía. Gracias por el comentario y la visita, son maravillosos recuerdos. Saludos.
