El pasado 10 de Febrero, Netflix estrenó la comedia romántica protagonizada por Reese Witherspoon y Ashton Kutcher que venía esperando ver tras estrenarse el trailer hace algunos meses por Youtube.

Last February 10, Netflix released the romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher that I had been waiting to see after the trailer was released a few months ago on Youtube.

Ayer 14 de Febrero, decidí verla por sugerencia de un post aquí en HIVE, la recordé de inmediato y me fui a verla sin perder más tiempo; para ser honestos, el trailer me dejó bastante desinteresado en la película pero igual le quise dar la oportunidad porque ambos actores son muy buenos y quería ver de qué se trataba mejor la película.

Yesterday February 14, I decided to watch it at the suggestion of a post here on HIVE, I remembered it right away and went to see it without wasting any more time; to be honest, the trailer left me pretty disinterested in the movie but I still wanted to give it a chance because both actors are very good and I wanted to see what the movie was about better.

La premisa de la película es la siguiente: dos amigos que en algún momento de su juventud pasaron la noche juntos pero que luego el personaje de Kutcher, decide alejarse del personaje que interpreta Witherspoon (esto luego es explicado en la película pero es bastante obvio).

The premise of the film is as follows: two friends who at some point in their youth spent the night together but then Kutcher's character, decides to move away from the character played by Witherspoon (this is later explained in the film but it's pretty obvious).

Desde entonces, se mantuvieron como buenos amigos, cada cual hizo su vida por separado, incluso en diferentes lugares del país, pero manteniendo la amistad a pesar del pasado incómodo que tuvieron. Él inestable emocionalmente, sin ningún compromiso emocional que exceda los 6 meses de "relación" con otra mujer, ella, madre soltera con un hijo con mil y un problemas de salud y soltera por decisión.

Since then, they remained good friends, each made their lives separately, even in different parts of the country, but maintaining the friendship despite the uncomfortable past they had. He emotionally unstable, without any emotional commitment exceeding 6 months of "relationship" with another woman, she, a single mother with a son with a thousand and one health problems and single by choice.

Entrando en lo interesante, el guión y la historia son bastante chéveres, creí que el hecho de que intercambiaran casas podría no hacer que los personajes también se adaptaran a la vida del otro pero pasó exactamente eso; creo fue predecible hasta cierto punto en muchos sentidos.

Getting into the interesting stuff, the script and story are pretty cool, I thought the fact that they swapped houses might not make the characters also adapt to each other's lives but it happened exactly that; I think it was predictable to some extent in many ways.

El niño reprimido por no darle mucho trabajo a la mamá soltera que ya tiene bastante con el hecho de tener que mantener una casa y costear gastos médicos extras, creo que humanizó a la madre, pero darle al personaje dos profesiones (una temporal y racional y la otra más pasional y adecuada), la hizo navegar entre las dos mujeres que fue antes de ser madre y después.

The repressed child for not giving much work to the single mom who already has enough to do with keeping a house and paying for extra medical expenses, I think humanized the mother, but giving the character two professions (one temporary and rational and the other more passionate and proper), made her navigate between the two women she was before becoming a mother and after.

Los personajes de apoyo en la historia cumplieron su papel y fue interesante verlos adicionarse a las historias de los personajes principales. Particularmente, el personaje que más me causó gracia y me dio esa sensación de comedia, fue Minka (interpretada por Zoë Chao); con gracia y momentos sutiles pero cómicos, logró darle comedia al film.

The supporting characters in the story played their part and it was interesting to see them add to the stories of the main characters. Particularly, the character that I found most amusing and gave me that sense of comedy, was Minka (played by Zoë Chao); with grace and subtle but comical moments, she managed to bring comedy to the film.

En producción se movieron entre dos ciudades y estuvieron bastante presentes lugares de esas ciudades que fácilmente se puede reconocer, aunque no vivamos ahí. No hubo mucho uso de efectos especiales, al menos yo no lo noté, aunque en las escenas de las vistas de New York se pudo ver que claramente que si utilizaron dichos efectos, pero nada malo salió de su uso.

In production they moved between two cities and were quite present places of those cities that you can easily recognize, even if you don't live there. There wasn't much use of special effects, at least I didn't notice it, although in the scenes of the New York sights you could see that they clearly did use such effects, but nothing bad came out of their use.

La química entre los protagonistas no fue la mejor pero no fue algo que me impidió disfrutar de la película. Poco fue el tiempo que pudieron pasar juntos frente a cámaras porque la película se trata del intercambio de los casas de los protagonistas, por ende, la mayoría de sus escenas fueron a través de videollamadas o llamas telefónica. Fue un realismo a las relaciones actuales, que aunque ya se ha tratado anteriormente, creo que es bueno que lo utilizaran en este film.

The chemistry between the leads wasn't the best but it wasn't something that kept me from enjoying the movie. There was little time they were able to spend together in front of the camera because the movie is about the exchange of the protagonists' homes, therefore, most of their scenes were through video calls or phone calls. It was a realism to today's relationships, which although it has been discussed before, I think it's good that they used it in this film.

Si están de ánimos para una rom-com para nada empalagosa y cursi, creo que esta puede ser un buena opción; no es la mejor en su categoría, ni tampoco la mejor película de Kutcher o Witherspoon, pero creo que para pasar un buen rato es buena.

If you're in the mood for a rom-com that's not at all cloying and cheesy, I think this might be a good choice; it's not the best in its category, nor is it the best Kutcher or Witherspoon movie, but I think for a good time it's good.
