Yep. Another quirky Nicolas Cage movie.

As the movie appears to be set in the Northeast (Filmed in Toronto), the characters are all self-absorbed neurotics suffering from the usual Liberal maladies.

In this case, Cage is a neurotic and somewhat narcissistic university professor who took his wife's name in marriage. The man is a consummate whiner who sees everything through the eyes of a victim. He's spent the past 30 years pretending that he is going to write a book about the intelligence of ants. A woman he dated briefly in College, does write that book and he feels robbed because she took his 30 year-old idea that he had yet to put a single word on paper about and got it published.

He begins appearing in the dreams of people all over the world, first as an observer who says nothing, doesn't help and basically just stands there being useless. He gets upset that everyone sees him as useless. Being the self-absorbed narcissist that he is, he starts hitting the talk shows and even signs up with a marketing agency. Eventually, the dreams start to turn violent and he becomes the target of rage and fear. Chaos ensues.

Fun: There are some comedic interludes, but most of the movie is just watching this jackass trying to get attention while playing the victim card to the hilt.

Preachy: I didn't care enough about any of the characters in the movie to care whether or not there was some underlying message. All I really got out of it was that Academia is for people that could not hold a real job or get a real life in the real world and have a deep seated need for constant validation.
