Review Movie: A story to reflect on (Desert Flower) [ENG|ESP]

We all have a story to tell, something that marked us forever, and that no matter how much you want to forget, there will be a mark to remind you of it.

Todos tenemos una historia que contar, algo que nos marcó para siempre, y que por más que quieras olvidar, allí estará alguna marca, para recordártelo.

In the world of fame, nobody escapes from this, some people get it easy, without much effort, others must work hard to achieve it, fight every day for that dream, change their lives and make themselves known to the rest of the world; in this film we will see the story of a young African girl, who had to leave her country, to be someone in this world, and not end up like the rest of the African women, in an arranged marriage, and living in misery.

Desert Flower is the name of this film, based on the life of a famous Somali model, who had to leave her home, her family, her brothers, something that many African women long for, but not all of them have the courage to face their leaders, following rules and customs that hurt them and transform their lives.

This film was released in 2009, it has a duration of two hours, however, the plot that shows us, is a sad reality that women live in Africa, something that surely the world does not know, all the experiences, these cruel facts that these women suffer, rooted in a macho culture, ignorant and inhuman.

The story itself is based on showing us the evolution of this young woman, since she left her native country, until she arrived in a land far away from her culture, trying to adapt to it, to adapt to the language, to work, thus becoming a sculptural model, attracting attention with her face, her features, her skin tone, for her great beauty.

En el mundo de la fama, nadie escapa de esto, a algunos les llega fácil, sin tanto esfuerzo, otros deben trabajar bastante para poder alcanzarlo, luchar cada día por ese sueño anhelado, cambiar su vida y darse a conocer por el resto del mundo; en esta película veremos la historia de una joven chica africana, que le toco salir de su país, para poder ser alguien en este mundo, y no terminar como el resto de las mujeres africanas, en un matrimonio arreglado, y viviendo en la miseria.

Desert Flower (La Flor del Desierto), es el nombre de esta película, basada en la vida de una famosa modelo somalí, la cual, tuvo que dejar su hogar, su familia, sus hermanos, algo que muchas mujeres africanas anhelan, pero que no todas tienen el valor para enfrentarse a sus líderes, siguiendo unas reglas, y unas costumbres que les hace daño, y le trasforman la vida.

Esta película se estrenó en el 2009, tiene una duración de dos horas, sin embargo, la trama que nos muestra, es una triste realidad, que viven las mujeres de África, algo que seguro el mundo desconoce, todas las vivencias, estos hechos crueles, que sufren dichas mujeres, arraigados a una cultura machista, ignorante e inhumana.

La historia en sí, se basa en mostrarnos la evolución de esta joven, desde que salió de su país natal, hasta llegar a una tierra muy lejos de su cultura, buscando adaptarse a ella, entre el idioma, trabajando, llegando asi a convertirse en una escultural modelo, llamando la atención con su rostro, sus facciones, su tono de piel, por su gran belleza.

Waris Dirie, this is the name of this young girl, and just as you see her in the photo, simple, without much make-up or fancy clothes, not at all cultured and humble, she managed to impress a famous photographer, who discovered her and somehow brought her to this fame.

This story is based on true events, the actress who plays the role of the woman, undoubtedly did a great job, showing the evolution of Waris, with fear and insecurities, but with time, and the support of the right people, she was losing that fear, gaining courage, overcoming herself, becoming the supermodel she is today.

Waris Dirie, asi se llama esta joven chica, y asi como la ven en la foto, sencilla, sin tanto maquillaje, ni trajes elegantes, nada culta y humilde, logro impactar a un famoso fotógrafo, el cual fue que la descubrió, y de alguna forma la llevo a esta fama.

Esta historia es basada en hechos reales, la actriz que representa el papel de la mujer, sin duda hizo un gran trabajo, mostrando la evolución de Waris, con miedo e inseguridades, pero que con el tiempo, y el apoyo de las personas indicadas, fue perdiendo ese miedo, armándose de valor, superándose a sí misma, convirtiéndose en la supermodelo, que es hoy en día.

However, the most shocking and heartbreaking part, which leaves you with that bad taste and pain, is when this girl tells what they did to her when she was only a child, 3 years old, and they applied Genital Mutilation, something that would undoubtedly be something really traumatic, painful, for any girl, woman, feeling incomplete.

This is where I say, how in those countries, they make these customs, these absurd, painful, monstrous rules, because I can't find another name for it, this evil against women, because they are always the ones who have to pay for these rituals created by men.

Sin embargo, la parte más impactante y desgarradora, que te deja ese mal sabor y dolor, es cuando esta chica cuenta lo que le hicieron cuando solo era una niña, de 3 años, y le aplicaron la Mutilación Genital, algo que sin duda sería algo realmente traumático, doloroso, para cualquier niña, mujer, sentirse incompleta.

Aquí es donde yo digo, como en esos países, hacen estas costumbres, estas reglas absurdas, dolorosas, monstruosas, porque no encuentro otro nombre para ello, este mal contra las mujeres, porque siempre son ellas las que tienen que pagar por estos rituales creados por los hombres.

In short, this film is definitely worth watching and promoting more, it is a story of reflection, overcoming, teaching, where despite the obstacles that come our way, we can find a way to move forward, that everything passes, nothing lasts forever, and just as we have our bad days, the good ones will also come.

That we should be grateful for what we have, for where we live, for our culture, our religions, our ideologies, all of this makes us value even more what we have.

En fin, esta película, es algo que sin duda vale la pena verla, y promocionarla más, es una historia de reflexión, superación, enseñanza, donde a pesar de los obstáculos que se nos presenten en el camino, podemos encontrar la forma de salir adelante, que todo pasa, nada dura para siempre, y asi como tenemos nuestros días malos, también llegaran los buenos.

Que debemos ser agradecidos, por lo que tenemos, donde vivimos, por nuestra cultura, nuestras religiones, nuestras ideologías, todo esto, nos hace valorar aún más lo que tenemos.
