En el mundo apocalíptico en el año 2154, la desolación, devastación, extinción y demás cosas horrorosas se encuentran en puerta; los humanos destruyeron el planeta completamente peor los más ricos han huido para conservar su estilo de vida, hacia las estrellas… En la atmósfera de la tierra se encuentra una construcción gigante con su propia gravedad con toda las comodidades existentes.

En la tierra tenemos a un pequeño niño llamado Max el cual está llegando a una casa hogar de monjas, apenas llega hace una amiga y se vuelven inseparables, Max tiene unos libros pero no sabe que hacer con ellos hasta que llega su amiga a salvarlo ya que ella si sabe leer, la educación en los niños no es un tema del todo priorizado ya que se encuentran en un apocalipsis prácticamente. Su amiga le cuenta todo lo que hay en los libros, la historia de que hay en el cielo; Elysium, la ciudad de las estrellas donde las personas no se enferman, ni envejecen, todo lo que necesiten prácticamente a placer.

El joven Max soñador sobre todo, le promete a su amiga que la llevara algún día a Elysium así sea lo último que haga. Mientras tanto en Elysium podemos ver qué hay de todo, un mar y comodidades con gente muy refinada por doquier con sirvientes robots para atenderlos.

Max, dentro de su día a día busca desde pequeño poder subir, el problema es que lo hace robando y fue golpeado, una de las monjas le explica que deje ver al cielo que ese lugar, no es para el y menos, para ella.
