A movie about eggs, one of the great classics of Mexican animation [ENG/ESP]
Hi everyone, I recently started making friends with some people who, to my surprise, have similar tastes. One of them has been wanting to watch movies as a way to unwind, and interestingly, most of the films on their list are animated, and they're some of my favorite classics. So, a few days ago I mentioned one I really love, and we finally got around to watching it. It was a lot of fun, so I'm taking this opportunity to share my thoughts on "Una película de huevos" (A Movie of Eggs).
Hola a todos, hace poco comencé a entablar amistad con personas que, para mi sorpresa, tienen algunos gustos similares y, entre ellos, una de estas personitas ha estado queriendo ver películas a modo de distracción y, curiosamente, entre esta lista que ha estado armando, la mayoría son animadas, además de ser de los clásicos que más me han gustado. Por ende, entre días le comenté sobre una que me gusta muchísimo y finalmente se dio el día de verla y, obviamente, fue muy divertida, por lo que, aprovechando hoy, le daré mi opinión sobre "Una película de huevos".
A story written and directed by Rodolfo Riva Palacio and Gabriel Riva Palacio, produced by Huevocartoon Producciones in association with Videocine Producción, was released in 2006. This was Huevocartoon's first feature film and the first installment in the "Huevos" film series. It tells the story of Toto, a little egg who, upon hatching, is separated from his mother and taken to market with others to be sold as food. After being bought, he escapes and embarks on an adventure filled with exciting moments to reunite with his mother and become a farm rooster.
Una historia escrita y dirigida por Rodolfo Riva Palacio y Gabriel Riva Palacio, producida por Huevocartoon Producciones en asociación con Videocine Producción, sale a la luz en el año 2006, siendo este el primer largometraje de Huevocartoon y a su vez la primera entrega de la serie cinematográfica "Huevos". Nos lleva a la historia de Toto, un huevito que, al apenas salir al mundo, es separado de su madre para ser, en conjunto con otros, llevado al mercado para venderlo como cualquier alimento, pero que este, al escapar luego de ser comprado, emprende una aventura llena de muchos momentos cumbres para llegar a encontrarse con su madre y lograr convertirse en un gallo de granja.
Here, we're given the premise that humans can't perceive these creatures as speaking or moving beyond what they perceive as a normal wailing, and as the story progresses, we see that it's a duality of perspectives. This isn't a new concept, as this two-worlds-in-one structure has been pioneered in many well-known films and genres over the years, some successful and others less so. This plot follows this idea, focusing on the perspective and coexistence of the eggs, animals, food, and other elements that appear, each with its own personality, ideas, and actions, even if they aren't distinguishable to the human eye within the story.
Acá se nos da la premisa de que los humanos no logran percibir que esos hablen o se muevan más allá de verlos como un lamento normal y, conforme avanza, vamos viendo que es como una dualidad de perspectivas. Esto como tal no es una propuesta nueva, pues esta estructura de 2 mundos en uno ha sido pionera en muchas películas y géneros conocidos a lo largo de los años, algunas con éxito y otras no tanto, por lo que en esta trama se sigue esta idea, centrándonos en la perspectiva y convivencia de los huevos, animales, comidas y demás que van apareciendo, cada uno con su propia personalidad, ideas y acciones, aunque al ojo humano dentro de la historia no sea distintivo.
Although the plot is very simple—Toto finding his mother so she can finish hatching him—the story itself is very comedic and satirical, with subtle nods to double entendres, the obviously great Mexican humor, obvious references, and a wide variety of unique characters that manage to distract us from Toto's objective and focus on laughing and enjoying some of the alternative storylines, like the one about the confetti eggs or how a piece of bacon becomes vital to the plot. The thing about this movie is that, year after year, it became a reference point for many memes and iconic phrases, and it has managed to firmly establish itself in the memory of many despite the passage of time, because it is so well-made that it simply caught on and became a classic.
Aunque la trama es muy simple, lo cual es que Toto se encuentre con su madre y esta lo pueda terminar de empollar, la trama en sí es muy de comedia y sátira, con pequeños guiños al doble sentido, el obviamente gran humor mexicano, referencias obvias y una gran variedad de personajes únicos que logran hacer que nos desviemos del objetivo de Toto y nos centremos en reírnos y disfrutar de alguna de las historias alternativas, como la de los huevitos de confeti o el cómo un tocino se vuelve vital en la trama, la cosa con esta película es que, por año, logró hacerse referente de muchos memes y frases icónicas, y se ha podido posicionar fuertemente en el recuerdo de muchos a pesar del tiempo, pues está tan bien elaborada que simplemente logró pegar y volverse un clásico.
The film's popularity even led to four sequels, for a total of five movies that chronicle Toto's journey from egg to full-grown rooster. Personally, I've only seen this one and the second installment, as they are, as I mentioned, my favorites, and they represent an important part of shaping my tastes. Similarly, in this first film, my favorite characters aren't Toto or the main ones, but rather those who, like many others, became iconic, such as the little egg Confi (whose very obvious astral state was immediately apparent), Reptiloco's egg, which symbolized what happens when we manage to let go of expectations, and the opossums, who represent a brotherhood full of strange and funny moments, but ultimately united.
Incluso la buena aceptación de esta hizo que tuviera otras 4 secuelas posteriores, para un total de 5 películas que narran todo el proceso de Toto, desde que es un huevo hasta que ya es todo un gallo hecho y derecho. Personalmente, solo he visto esta y la segunda entrega, ya que son, como les mencioné, mis favoritas, y de esas que representan una parte importante de esta formación de nuestros gustos, así como en esta primera entrega mis personajes favoritos no son Toto o los principales, sino los que, al igual que a muchos, se volvieron un ícono, como lo son el huevito Confi (que con solo verlo ya sabíamos que estaba en un modo astral muy obvio), el huevito de Reptiloco, que era una representación de lo que pasa cuando logramos desligarnos de las expectativas, y los tacuaches, que representan una hermandad llena de momentos raros y divertidos, pero unidos al fin.
This is one of those movies that you can recommend even if you've already seen it. As I mentioned at the beginning, both my friend, who was seeing it for the first time, and I, who have seen it repeatedly, were in a sea of non-stop laughter. It's one of those movies that manages to generate and transmit the same vibe, no matter when or how you watch it. Well, that's all I can say about this great classic gem of Mexican animation. Esta es de esas películas que se recomiendan aunque ya se hayan visto, pues, como les comenté al inicio, tanto mi amigo, que era la primera vez que la veía, como yo, que la he visto repetidas veces, estábamos en un mar de risas sin parar, porque es de esas que logran generar y transmitir la misma vibra, no importa en qué momento o tiempo se vea, porque bueno, es todo lo que puedo opinar de esta gran joya clásica de la animación mexicana, por lo que, sin más, esperando sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
