[Movie] Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon: Samishigariya no Ryū (2025)

Something we notice almost immediately in the first few minutes of this film is Kanna's development. We go from seeing an active but quiet girl to one who readily expresses her emotions, especially with Kobayashi. We see her more integrated into human life and even more adapted to the stages of childhood, suggesting that she's enjoying and understanding her surroundings more fully—a positive aspect within the plot of dragons escaping to avoid being tied down. And that's precisely where the film focuses. While we've seen something similar in the anime with Tohru and her father, where she had to go through a difficult time to acknowledge her emotions, this situation is similar, but with the added element that Kobayashi must begin to act not only as Kanna's caretaker but also as a mother who provides her with the tools to cope with the situation.

Algo que podemos notar casi de inmediato al ver los primeros minutos de esta película es el avance en la forma de ser de Kanna, pues pasamos de ver una niña activa pero callada a una que fácilmente expresa sus emociones, obviamente más que todo con Kobayashi. La vemos más integrada al convivir humano e incluso más adaptada a lo que son las etapas de un niño, por lo que nos da a entender que esta está disfrutando y entendiendo más su alrededor, cosa que es positivo dentro de la trama de dragones que escapan para no estar atados a algo. Y justamente de allí es donde se agarra la película, pues aunque ya hemos visto algo similar en el anime con Tohru y su padre, donde vimos cómo tiene que pasar por un momento fuerte para admitir emociones, en esta ocasión es parecido, pero con el tema de que Kobayashi debe empezar a actuar no solo como un cuidador de Kanna, sino como una madre que debe dar herramientas para que pueda afrontar la situación.

And while the film also explores the mystery and the true cause of the conflict—which, as we see, touches on themes of manipulation and betrayal—it also revolves around emotions and learning to understand them. It shows how direct communication within families can prevent misunderstandings, a point most evident in Kanna's relationship with her father, who must also go through the process of letting go and expressing his emotions, just as Kanna did. It could be said that this is a film brimming with emotion, and by presenting these emotions in various ways, we can develop a strong sense of empathy, not necessarily for any particular character, but for what is conveyed in the moment. This makes it a successful way to connect with an audience without resorting to aggressive drama or horror.

Y si bien el tema también es descubrir el misterio y lo que realmente está causando el conflicto, cosa que vemos, toca temas de manipulación y traición; esta a su vez se mueve en un eje de sentimientos y aprender a entenderlos, y como en las familias la comunicación directa puede evitar malentendidos, esto más que todo lo vemos en lo que es la relación de Kanna con su padre, el cual a su vez debe pasar por ese proceso de soltar y demostrar sus emociones, así como lo hizo Kanna en su momento. Podría decirse que esta es una película llena de emociones y que, al tener varios aspectos distintos en los que las podemos encontrar, podemos llegar a sentir bastante empatía, no por algún personaje como tal, sino por lo que se transmite en el momento, lo que la hace una forma acertada de conectar con una audiencia sin poner algún drama agresivo o algún terror en el camino.

It has several exciting moments, such as seeing Kobayashi look for a way to calm Kanna and at the same time deal with the war at stake, seeing classic anime moments with scenes of characters that with just words already make us understand, and it even manages to leave us with doubts about the distant participation of characters like Lucoa, which makes us wonder what it would have been like if he intervened directly, so there is a lot to observe in each moment of the film and that is good because it openly shows us several stories without saturating each other, as well as the teaching of knowing how to choose where to be without forgetting others, which I feel is a good and beautiful closure that the film gives.

Tiene varios momentos emocionantes, como ver a Kobayashi buscar la forma de calmar a Kanna y a su vez tratar con la guerra en juego, ver momentos clásicos del anime con puestas en escena de personajes que con solo palabras ya dan a entender, e incluso también nos logra dejar con dudas sobre la participación alejada de personajes como Lucoa, la cual nos hace preguntar cómo hubiera sido si interviniera directamente, por lo que hay mucho que observar en cada momento de la película y eso es bueno porque nos muestra abiertamente varias historias sin saturarse entre sí, así como la enseñanza de saber elegir dónde estar sin olvidar a los demás, cosa que siento es un buen y bonito cierre que da la película.

Although Kanna isn't my favorite character in the Kobayashi universe, the approach and exploration of her life is simply a very good choice. It seems they're showing aspects of each character in greater depth in the future, and in Kanna's case, adapting her story to a child's perspective, while still maintaining the strength of her feelings and their importance to her, is more than just a good choice. Furthermore, the film's visual appeal is undeniably colorful and striking, which only makes it more appreciated by audiences, as it received many positive reviews and a good rating.

Aunque Kanna en sí no es mi personaje favorito del mundo de Kobayashi, el enfoque y cómo exploran su vida es simplemente una muy buena elección, pues todo indica que están mostrando aspectos de cada uno de los personajes a más profundidad en el futuro y, en el caso de Kanna, el hecho de que lo adaptaran a una visión infantil y acorde a ella, sin dejar de lado lo fuerte de los sentimientos y la importancia en ella, es más que una buena elección. Además de que el atractivo visual de esta película es sin duda muy colorido y llamativo, cosa que incluso la hace ser más apreciada por el público, pues esta película recibió muchas críticas positivas y una buena valoración.
