My opinion about Megan [ENG/ESP]

Obviously, we've seen this premise before in previous years, with films like Chucky, which for years presented this scenario, but rooted in mystery and the paranormal. This worked so well that to this day it remains one of the greatest references in cinema. In this case, Megan is similar, only without all the witches and magic. Instead, it focuses directly on what many of us have seen: the development of technology, in this case an AI that gradually assumes and becomes conscious. This is the key to the film, because beyond the plot where the doll possessively watches over the girl, we see how human control is being lost.

Obviamente, esta premisa ya la habíamos visto antes con años anteriores, con entregas como Chucky, con la cual por años se nos mostró este escenario, pero arraigado al misterio y lo paranormal, y esto funcionó tanto que hasta la fecha sigue siendo uno de los más grandes referentes del cine , por lo que en este caso Megan es algo similar, solo que sin todo esto de brujos y magia, sino que lo enfoca directamente en lo que es eso que muchos hemos visto, que es el desarrollo de la tecnología, en este caso una IA que poco a poco asume y toma conciencia, que en sí es la clave de esta película, ya que más allá de esta trama donde la muñeca va cuidando de manera posesiva a la chica, vemos cómo se va perdiendo el control humano.

Personally, in the first installment we have those moments of mystery and intrigue as Megan and her surroundings unfold; at times we even see that feeling of terror as we try to deduce the outcome, which is positive from my point of view, since there is that unexpected element. So, in my opinion, the first Megan game is good, it fulfills its purpose and main objective, and leaves us a little intrigued about how we went from that control to autonomy, which, well, moving on to the sequel, "Megan 2.0", is something completely different.

Personalmente, en la primera entrega tenemos esos momentos de misterio e intriga con los que va pasando con Megan y el entorno; incluso en momentos vemos esa sensación de terror por quizás deducir el desenlace, cosa que es positiva desde mi punto de vista, ya que está ese factor inesperado, por lo que, en mi opinión, la primera entrega de Megan es buena, cumple con lo que plantea y el objetivo principal y deja un poco la intriga de cómo es que pasamos de ese control a la autonomía, que, bueno, ya pasando a la secuela de esta, siendo "Megan 2.0", es otra cosa completamente distinta.

Megan 2.0 was released in 2025 with the premise of showing us a new story for our protagonists, how everything has progressed since the events of the first installment, and even the development of Megan herself. I hoped this would clear up all the doubts that had arisen before, since years have passed and everything has moved a bit too quickly. But we start with a somewhat expected scenario, as we are immediately introduced to the main focus: a technology that seems to be like Megan, but without her protective qualities. Instead, it is designed to destroy, planned and used as a weapon. This gives us an idea of the extent to which this created intelligence and skill are capable.

Megan 2.0 sale al público en el pasado 2025 con la premisa de mostrarnos una nueva historia para nuestras protagonistas, cómo ha avanzado todo desde los acontecimientos de la primera entrega e incluso el desarrollo que ha tenido la misma Megan, lo cual esperaba pudiera así mismo despejar todo lo que había generado dudas antes, ya que en esta han pasado años y todo ha marchado un poco apretado, pero iniciamos con un panorama un poco esperado, pues se nos muestra de entrada al eje principal, que es una tecnología que parece indicar que es como Megan, pero sin la cualidad que tenía de proteger, sino que va directamente a destruir, planificada y usada como arma. Esta nos da a entender hasta qué punto es capaz de llegar esta inteligencia y destreza creadas.

Unlike the first installment, this one lacks the element of surprise and horror; it feels more like a science fiction film focused on the fight between Megan and her ruthless counterpart. Even so, I feel that the way Megan has evolved has definitely worked against the character. Beyond making her seem completely independent and maintaining that aura of strength, this time around it feels like a forced progression. The plot loses all naturalness and even seems to focus on making jokes or comments that detract from the tension the film should have.

A diferencia de la primera entrega, no tenemos ese factor sorpresa en esta o el tema del terror; se vuelve más como una película de ficción enfocada en la pelea Megan vs. la versión despiadada. Aun así, siento que el tema de cómo ha evolucionado Megan es sin duda algo que le jugó en contra al personaje, pues más allá de hacerla ver totalmente independiente y mantener esa aura de fuerza, en esta ocasión, incluso se siente como un avance forzado; pierde toda naturalidad la trama e incluso parece que se enfoca en hacer chistes o comentarios que quitan la tensión que debería tener la película.

This sequel isn't bad in itself, as it displays, like the previous one, a familiar structure seen in other films such as "I, Robot" or others with this "evil clone" theme, which is essentially what it is; however, where it fails is, as I said before, in maintaining that aura of mystery that managed to generate tension among the audience. Therefore, in my opinion, it doesn't manage to sustain what Megan conveys and becomes something that over-the-top and fictional, so it wasn't to my liking, personally.

En sí, esta secuela no es mala, en sí, pues muestra, al igual que en la anterior, una estructura conocida y ya antes vista en otras películas como "Yo, robot" u otras con esta temática de "clon malvado", que es en sí lo que vendría siendo; sin embargo, en lo que falla es en, como dije antes, continuar con esa aura de misterio que lograba hacer generar la tensión por parte del público, por lo que en esta, a mi parecer, no llega a mantener lo que transmite Megan y pasa a ser algo que se pasa de ficción, por lo que no fue de mi gusto, personalmente.

So, in short, I think it's one of those movies where the sequel doesn't do it any favors, since it just changes the entire initial premise... However, if we consider that the first one is science fiction/horror and the second one is science fiction/horror/comedy, we could watch it without any problem. So, well, I preferred the first one, since I liked it more in terms of what they were trying to convey, and that's the one I would recommend. Sin embargo, si nos planteamos que la primera es ficción/terror y la segunda ficción/terror/comedia, podríamos verla tranquilamente, por lo que, bueno, preferí la primera, ya que me gustó más en cuanto a lo que querían proyectar, por lo que es la que recomendaría ver.
