I'm glad to hear that you're a fan of Korean cinema too. You're absolutely right - they have a unique way of storytelling that often keeps one on their toes, and the lines between good and bad are often blurred, making for a more complex and engaging plot.

The movie you're describing sounds like a real gem. I love that it's set during a time of Japanese occupation, but it doesn't focus too much on the politics or historical context. Sometimes, it's refreshing to just enjoy a movie for its story and characters, without any hidden agendas or messages.

The plot sounds intriguing, with a group of thieves and a daring plan to defraud an heiress. But what really makes a movie like this shine is the execution, and it sounds like this one delivers on all fronts. With exceptional performances from the actors and a gripping story that changes course multiple times, it's no wonder you were captivated throughout the 2+ hours.

If this was your experience, I'm definitely adding it to my list.

i know I recommend a lot of things but honestly. If you have 2 hours available in your time and are willing to read subtitles, forget all of what I have said before now and watch ONLY this instead. This is a very unique part of cinematic history that is honestly, kind of unparalleled by anyone else. There are hundreds of professional critics from around the world that have this film in their top 10 and Roger Ebert has it as his number 1 film of all time.
