"Grown Ups, a summer comedy

Dennis Dugan's comedy "Grown Ups" provoked mixed reactions from critics, although it did very well at the box office thanks to its wonderful cast.

While Adam Sandler, Kevin James and their cohorts have delivered more inspired work, here they had fun just having a good time as mature friends.

True, the plot was unambitious and easy jokes abounded, but their silly humour did the job of making you laugh, if only for isolated scenes.

Rob Schneider, Salma Hayek and the kids provided the best gags, and the sight of these established actors relaxing and enjoying friendship was delightful.

Visually ordinary and unpretentious, "Grown Ups" was able to tap into childhood nostalgia to win over family audiences, albeit somewhat forgettable.

All in all, it delivered as a light summer comedy that entertained the masses.
