Ride the Eagle, for curious cinephiles.

Ride the Eagle was one of the most pleasant and unique surprises at the Sundance Film Festival in 2021.

It is clear that Jake Johnson continues to go all out for comedies that are far from conventional.

As an actor and director, he once again demonstrates his natural magnetism and creative streak to show the more absurd and emotional side of life.

In narrating his character's almost hallucinatory journey to inherit a cabin after his mother's death, he makes the most of picturesque locations and charming people.

Each secondary character brings unsuspected nuances with just a few words. And the folk soundtrack accompanies the strange inner drift of the protagonist.

While the limbo between the surreal and the dramatic could have been deepened in some aspects, the enjoyable pace prevails.

"Ride the Eagle makes the skin crawl with its absurdist tenderness. Another singular and hypnotic comedy from Jake Johnson, ideal for marathoners of good indie humour, Ride the Eagle will undoubtedly go down as cult.

Despite certain licences, I am happy to bet on rare cinema that subtly thrills.

My warmest recommendation for curious cinephiles.
