The Arrival one of the best science fiction films

Science fiction film of 2016 , which is listed as one of the best in recent years.

Delightful and intelligently directed film by: Denis Villeneuve . Starring: AmyAdams (as the linguist Louise Banks), JeremyRenner (as the theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly) and ForestWhitaker (as Colonel Weber), proposes us an already classic theme as the "encounter in the third phase" of humans with an extraterrestrial race that arrive with their ships.

A classic science fiction theme, but treated in a very different way than usual.

The film was nominated for two Golden Globes, nine BAFTAs and eight Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography (Bradford Young is the first African-American nominated in this category), Best Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Production Design and Best Sound Editing, the only category it won.

Despite this, the film garnered more than 50 awards around the world, earning its presence in most of the Top Ten of the year for the film press.

The screenplay, an adaptation of "Story of your life", a story by writer Ted Chiang, is surprising for its linguistic approach to the extraterrestrial theme, far from the conventions of a genre that revels in the elaboration of battles and explosions of epic proportions.

The film tells the story of how an elite team, led by linguistic expert Louise Banks, attempts to contact aliens who have arrived on Earth to find out if they come in peace or pose a threat.

As the protagonist learns to communicate with the aliens, she also begins to experience flashbacks that will help her discover the real reason for this extraterrestrial visit.

Music plays a fundamental role in ''The Arrival'' since it is an indispensable element to achieve the right tone and atmosphere for the story. Composer Jóhann Jóhannsson has been in charge of creating the incredible soundtrack of the film, where the human voice is the center of the soundscape.

Arrival takes the basic template of a "first contact with aliens" story and turns it into an exciting and unique visual spectacle, as well as a thoughtful exploration of what it means to be human. Arrival examines how we process time, memory, existence and loss, even when it has not yet happened.

For those reasons and more, Arrival is undoubtedly one of the best science fiction films of all time.
