The Chosen, my recommended series

The Chosen has been one of the biggest surprises of the year for me.

Despite being an independent production, it shows that you don't need a big budget to tell powerful stories.

Throughout its first season, director Dallas Jenkins managed to bring the Gospels to life in a fresh, authentic and entertaining way, focusing on the people behind Jesus.

What I celebrate most is how he portrays this group of flawed followers with genuine nuance, making them accessible to modern audiences. Matthew, Peter, James are endearing characters.

Visually it makes an impact thanks to its impeccable desert locations and the reconstruction of biblical landscapes.

Above all, it manages to humanise Jesus as a spiritual guide without falling into clichés. It is a layered and thought-provoking portrait.

Undoubtedly a gem that proved that great stories can come from humble projects.

I look forward to the next season, which will be the fifth..
