The Duellists is the first film by director Ridley Scott. In 1977 it won the award for "Best First Film" at the Cannes Film Festival.

The film stars Harvey Keitel and Keith Carradine. The play is adapted from the novel "The Duel" by Joseph Conrad.

The plot is set during the Napoleonic era and follows the rivalry between two French army officers, Lieutenant Armand d'Hubert and Lieutenant Gabriel Féraud, who become involved in an endless series of duels over the years.
