The High Note, directed by Nisha Ganatra, turned out to be an entertaining and moving comedy that pleasantly surprised with its feminine message.

Starring the ever-talented Tracee Ellis Ross as an R&B star evaluating her career, and Dakota Johnson as her personal assistant, it humorously addressed women's empowerment in the music industry.

Through the inevitable contrast between ambition and motherhood, Ganatra gracefully addressed those gender roles that artists still face when they pass a certain age.

Johnson and Ross excelled in forging a believable chemistry as an antagonistic but complementary duo. Ice Cube and Bill Pullman added to the supporting cast.

Beyond its light-hearted tone, Flora Greeson's screenplay stood out for its powerful empowering message by presenting a more realistic view of the behind-the-scenes of the music star-system.

An enjoyable, musical and heartfelt film that celebrated female talent. A pleasant surprise to reflect on with a chuckle.

A small-budget indie comedy that scored several important nominations:

Golden Globes: Dakota Johnson was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.

Critics Choice Awards: The film received nominations for Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress for Johnson.

Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG): Tracee Ellis Ross was nominated for Best Actress for her leading role.

I recommend it 100%.
