Infinity Pool | James is a little sucky-boy!

I am in the perfect state of sleep deprivation, hunger, burning eyes, and a state of mental relaxation that only expresses how bad my mind is, and that makes me laugh. This is not a movie I would recommend to anyone, it's not even all that good, and it is for that very reason that I enjoy watching it so much, the pleasure of enjoying something that is not all that good is exquisite, I wish more people would come to accept and experience this kind of pleasure. Infinity Pool is going to be full of blood, sex, drugs, weird masks, much weirder situations, it will leave us with a feeling of incessant discomfort that will not leave us for a long time after we finish watching it, well, if they get to finish it, this movie is an acquired taste that we have to accept as it is and not want to change it, because we will fail completely; and before we continue, Happy Pride Month!

I wish you could watch this movie like I did, not knowing anything about what I was going to find in the almost two hours it is almost two hours long, but since that is not going to be possible, we must give you a brief synopsis of what you can expect. James and Em are on vacation at the resort on an island in I don't know where, being strictly forbidden to leave the hotel, as foreigners are the main victims of the assaults and crimes that occur in the place, and that's just what happens, because they meet Gabi, leave the resort, run over someone, and from that accident reality begins to blur, and just as Em says, it seems that everything in reality was a dream, but no, it is not, so we have to deal with the horrors that we humans are capable of committing just for a little fun and cruelty at the expense of the lives and existence of other people.

Estoy en el perfecto estado de privación del sueño, hambre, ardor en los ojos, y un estado de relajación mental que solo expresa lo muy mal que tengo la mente, y eso me da risa. Esta no es una película que le recomiende a nadie, ni siquiera es del todo buena, y es por esa justa razón que disfruta tanto viéndola, el placer de disfrutar algo que no es del todo bueno es exquisito, ojalá más personas llegaran a aceptar y experimentar este tipo de placer. Infinity Pool va a estar llena de sangre, sexo, drogas, máscaras raras, situaciones mucho más raras, nos dejará una sensación de incomodidad incesante que no nos abandonará durante mucho tiempo después de terminar de verla, bueno, si es que llegan a terminarla, esta película es un gusto adquirido al que hay que aceptar tal cual es y no querer cambiarla, pues fracasaremos por completo; y antes de continuar, ¡Feliz Mes del Orgullo!

Ojalá pudieran ver esta película como yo, sin saber nada de lo que me iba a encontrar en las casi dos horas de duración que tiene, pero como eso no se va a poder, hay que darles una breve sinopsis de lo que pueden llegar a esperar. James y Em están de vacaciones en el resort de una isla en no sé dónde, teniendo terminantemente prohibido salir de las áeras del hotel, pues los extrangeros son las principales víctimas de los asaltos y crímines que ocurren en el lugar, y eso es justo lo que sucede, pues conocen a Gabi, salen del resort, atropellan a alguien, y a partir de ese accidente la realidad comienza a desdibujarse, y justo como dice Em, parece que todo en realidad fuera un sueño, pero no, no lo es, así que tenemos que atenernos a los horrores que somos capaces de cometer los humanos solo por un poco de diversión y crueldad a costa de la vida y la existencia de otras personas.

The rhythm of the film is very poor, more lows than highs, it's as if you had taken a hallucinogen and you were constantly going in and out of the altered state of reality, in this case having a very mediocre and empty reality, pretentious, trying to be more than it can be, and a hallucinogenic fantasy full of all the possible vices you can imagine, although there weren't many either, the truth, ordinary people may think this is a very grotesque and unwatchable movie, but not for me, I saw Cannibal Holocaust when I was 8 or 10 years old, I don't remember, so I only find pleasure in seeing people at their lowest point of human nature, it takes more than murder and human manipulation to disgust and scare me away, a boring movie would make me run away, like Licorice Pizza, ohmydog, what an insufferable movie for me.

I finished watching the movie before I got around to writing this review, and since I've done this same procedure before, being that I've already written the review of Infinity Pool, but no, that was Crimes of the Future, one of these days I'll watch it again. I remember that only three things made me want to see this movie, Mia Goth, obviously, Alexander Skarsgård, who wants to spend a lifetime biting her ears, and that it's by Brandon Cronenberg, otherwise, I didn't know what the fuck the movie was about, the first time I saw it I passed with a big WTF! on my face that never went away, well, it went away when the final scenes of the movie came and I couldn't get an idiot smile off my face that I still have now after watching it for the second time. I watched it a second time just to refresh the feeling of I don't know what the fuck I'm watching, but anyway, I still love it.

El ritmo de la película es muy deficiente, más bajos que altos, es como si hubieras tomado un alucinógenos y entraras y salieras constatemente del estado alterado de la realidad, en este caso teniendo una realidad muy mediocre y vacía, pretensiosa, que trata de ser más de lo que puede, y una fantasía alucinógena llena de todos los vicios posibles que puedas imaginar, aunque tampoco fueron muchos, la verdad, la gente común si puede llegar a creer que esta es una película muy grotesca e imposible de ver, pero no para mí, yo vi Holocausto Canibal cuando tenía 8 o 10 años, no recuerdo, así que solo encuentro placer en ver a las personas en lo más bajo de la naturaleza humana, se necesita más que asesinatos y manipulaciones humanas para asquearme y ahuyentarme, una película aburrida sí me haría salir corriendo, como Licorice Pizza, ohmydog, qué película tan insufrible para mí.

Terminé de ver la película antes de ponerme a escribir esta reseña, y como ya he hecho este mismo procedimiento antes, siendo que ya he escrito la reseña de Infinity Pool, pero no, esa fue la de Crimes of the Future, un día de estos la vuelvo a ver. Recuerdo que solo tres cosas me hicieron querer ver esta película, Mia Goth, obviamente, Alexander Skarsgård, a quien quiere pasar toda una vida mordiéndole las orejas, y que es de Brandon Cronenberg, de resto, yo no sabía de qué carajos trataba la película, la primera vez que la vi yo pasé con un gran WTF! en la cara que no se me quitó nunca, bueno, se me quitó cuando llegaron las escenas finales de la película y no pude quitarme de la cara una sonrisa idiota que todavía tengo ahorita después de verla por segunda vez. La vi por segunda vez solo para refrescar el sentimiento de no sé qué carajos estoy viendo, pero en fin, la sigo amando.

One of the things that plays against the movie is that it has many layers, many things happening at the same time, things that do not end up fitting together and generate too much friction between the film and the viewer, a lot of drama and social plot with that they are in a third world country impoverished to the core full of corruption and crime, a lot of science fiction with what they create doubles of people, much existentialism and philosophy with James discovering who he is through many unseemly acts; and I got lost in a sea of memes and no longer remember anything. I can add to that list the psychedelic part of the movie, you don't need drugs to feel like you're under the effect of them, my mind is very suggestible, and if the scenes with strobe lights blurring everything had lasted several minutes, I would have lost my sanity completely.

One of my favorite things were the excessive close-ups, for many times we could get to observe almost every pore of Mia and Alexander's skin, their lips, their noses, their ears, their eyes, their hands, their bodies, the level of intensity, complicity and intimacy that those close-ups gave to the scenes was exceptional, exquisite, delicious, at least before all sense of morality, of right and wrong, was lost, and everything went to shit, almost literally; but even this couldn't save the story, as I said, too many layers, too many things that didn't quite fit together and made everything too stilted, making even if you liked the movie, you knew it wasn't quite perfect.

Una de las cosas que juega en contra de la película es que tiene muchas capas, muchas cosas sucediendo al mismo tiempo, cosas que no terminan de encajar entre sí y generan demasiada fricción entre la película y quien la ve, mucho drama y trama social con que están en un país tercermundista empobrecido hasta la médula lleno de corrupción y crimen, mucha ciencia ficción con lo de que crean dobles de las personas, mucho existencialismo y filosofía con James descubriendo quién es a través de muchos actos poco decorosos; y me perdí en un mar de memes y ya no recuerdo nada. Puedo agregar a esa lista la parte psicodélica de la película, no se necesitan drogas para sentir que estás bajo el efecto de ellas, mi mente es muy sugestiva, y si las escenas con luces estroboscópicas emborronando todo hubieran durado varios minutos, yo hubiera perdido la cordura por completo.

Una de mis cosas favoritas fueron los acercamientos excesivos, durante muchas veces podremos llegar a observar casi todos los poros de la piel de Mia y Alexander, sus labios, sus narices, sus orejas, sus ojos, sus manos, sus cuerpos, el nivel de intensidad, complicidad e intimidad que esos acercamientos le otorgaba a las excenas fue excepcional, exquisito, delicioso, al menos antes de que se perdiera todo sentido de la moral, del bien y el mal, y todo se fuera a la mierda, casi literal; pero ni siquiera esto pudo salvar a la historia, como dije, demasiadas capas, demasiadas cosas que no terminaron de encajar e hizo que todo fuera muy rebuscado, haciendo que incluso gustándote la película, supieras que no es del todo perfecta.

I don't know if this counts as a spoiler, but the cloning is going to be the least important thing in the story, well, yes it is going to be important, but it's only a complement to a bigger ulterior motive that we will only discover near the end, and even knowing it, you can't fully enjoy the movie as a whole. The gory scenes are exquisite, the psychological undertone I think is the best, without a doubt, but I'm not going to talk about that, because it would be a spoiler, although I really doubt that you will get interested in watching it, or at least if you try, that you will finish watching it.

No sé si esto cuente como spoiler, pero la clonación va a ser lo menos importante de la historia, bueno, sí va a ser importante, pero es solo en complemento para un motivo ulterior mayor que solo descubriremos casi al final, e incluso sabiéndolo, no se logra disfrutar plenamente la película en una totalidad. Las escenas sangrientas son exquisitas, el trasfondo psicológico creo que es lo mejor, sin duda alguna, pero de eso no voy a hablar, porque sería spoiler, aunque en realidad dudo mucho de que lleguen a interesarse y verla, o al menos si lo intentan, que terminen de verla.
