Red, White & Royal Blue | History, huh? Bet we could make some

August has just been consecrated as the second Pride month of the year, yesterday, with Wendy Guevara's victory in La Casa de los Famosos Mexico, and I'm happy that it was so, but it's not Wendy I'm going to talk about in this post, obviously, but Red, White & Royal Blue, a movie that premiered on Prime Video on August 11th, and that I saw against all odds because I was playing, and I got the notification that it was already released, and the dream I had was not normal, but I saw it that way, sleepily, laughing, falling in love, and crying with Alex and Henry over the course of this two hour movie, which is still being debated, because the director's cut is three hours, but they edited the movie to be two hours, and the intensity with which the fandom is asking for them to release the three hour long movie is gigantic, so we have no trouble dreaming of them actually doing it, but first they have to confirm the third season of Good Omens, Prime isn't going to be spared from that either.

This movie is an adaptation of the book that has the same name, a book that I already started reading, but I won't say anything about it in this review. In this story we will follow Alex, the son of the President of the United States, and Henry, the second prince in the line of succession to be the King of England, at first things do not go as well between them as they would like, so much so, that the relationship between the United States and England is in danger, so much so that the relationship between Alex and Henry is not a total disaster, and they pretend, they pretend so well that they end up starting a relationship where they defy unwritten rules, prejudices and stereotypes that are becoming increasingly obsolete, and that we hope that not many future generations will have them.

Agosto acaba de consagrarse como el segundo mes de Pride del año, el día de ayer, con la victoria de Wendy Guevara en La Casa de los Famosos México, y yo feliz porque haya sido así, pero no es de Wendy de quién les voy a hablar en esta publicación, obviamente, si no de Red, White & Royal Blue, película que se estrenó en Prime Video el 11 de agosto, y que vi contra todo pronóstico porque estaba jugando, y me llegó la notificación de que ya se había estrenado, y el sueño que tenía no era nada normal, pero así la vi, con sueño, riendo, enamorándome, y llorando con Alex y Henry en el transcurso de esta película de dos horas, cosa que aún está debatiéndose, porque el corte del director es de tres horas, pero editaron la película para que fuera de dos horas, y la intensidad con que el fandom está pidiendo que publiquen la película de tres horas de duración es gigante, así que nada nos cuesta soñar con que lo hagan de verdad, pero primero tienen que confirmar la tercera temporada de Good Omens, Prime no se va a salvar de eso tampoco.

Esta película es una adaptación del libro que tiene el mismo nombre, libro que ya me comencé a leer, pero del que no diré nada en esta reseña. En esta historia seguiremos a Alex, el hijo de la Presidenta de Estados Unidos, y de Henry, el segundo príncipe en la linea de sucesión para ser el Rey de Inglaterra, en un principio las cosas no salen tan bien entre ellos como se quisiera, tanto así, que la relación entre Estados Unidos e Inglaterra peligra, por lo que se debe hacer un control de daños donde se vea que la relación entre Alex y Henry no es un desastre total, y finguen, lo finguen tan bien que terminan comenzando una relación donde se desafían reglas no escritas, prejuicios y estereotipos que cada vez son más obsoletos, y que esperamos que no muchas generaciones futuras los tengan.

I'll just say that cishetero romantic comedies should learn from lgbtqia+ romantic comedies, because, honestly, you guys are like tofu, with no flavor at all, and you cook tofu like that, with no flavor at all, so no, learn to do better, you're already stuck in the last century and not in a good way, really. This movie is a total delicacy, and of course I would like to see the three hour version of the movie, because it would explore much more the beginning of the relationship and the flirtation between Henry and Alex, that everybody knew about, but nobody said anything about it because it was nobody's problem and nobody should meddle where nobody had called them, but yes, the rhythm was very well achieved, although maybe because of the cut it sometimes feels very rushed everything that is happening, the comedy is very well done, and there are a lot of double entendre things that are just too much to bear, which I loved too much, the romance I think would be what would improve more in the extended version, but I don't know how it would improve more, because it's already immaculate, the chemistry between the actors was captured perfectly, but yes, I can assure that it would be much better that.

This may be fiction, but it doesn't matter, the acceptance that the movie has, and the world it shows, gives us to understand that many things should change in the real world and that it is something that has taken too long to happen. For example, Alex is the son of the President of the United States, who is married to a Mexican, and his son, Alex, has very marked Latin features, and Alex is not only a pretty face, he also has a good brain that serves him in many things, and on the other hand we have what would be the Royalty of England, Henry, a Gay Prince who has lived forever hiding who he is, living under a confidentiality agreement where his true essence was and should never see the light of the sun, but things are not going to be as the world wants them to be, so they have to put up with it.

Solo diré que las comedias románticas cishetero deberían aprender de las comedias románticas lgbtqia+, porque, sinceramente, ustedes son como el tofu, sin nada de sabor, y cocinan así el tofu, sin nada de sabor, así que no, aprendan a hacer mejor las cosas, ya se quedaron en el siglo pasado y no de una buena forma, la verdad. Esta película es una exquisitez total, y por su puesto que quisiera ver la versión de tres horas de la película, porque así se exploraría mucho más el inicio de la relación y el flirteo entre Henry y Alex, que todo el mundo sabía, pero del que nadie decía nada porque no era problema de nadie y nadie debía meterse donde nadie les había llamado, pero sí, el ritmo lo lograron muy bien, aunque quizás por el corte que hicieron a veces se siente muy apresurado todo lo que está sucediendo, igual es perfecto, la comedia está muy bien hecha, y hay muchas cosas de doble sentido que simplemente son demasiado para soportar, cosa que amé demasiado, el romance creo que sería lo que mejoraría más en la versión extendida, pero no sé cómo mejoraría más, pues ya es inmaculado, la química entre los actores fue captada a la perfección, pero sí, puedo asegurar que sería mucho mejor eso.

Esto podrá ser ficción, pero no importa, la aceptación que tiene la película, y el mundo que muestra, nos da a entender que muchas cosas deberían cambiar en el mundo real y que es algo que se ha tardado demasiado tiempo en suceder. Por ejemplo, Alex es el hijo de la Presidenta de Estados Unidos, quien está casada con un mexicano, y su hijo, Alex, tiene los rasgos latinos muy marcados, y Alex no es solo una cara bonita, además, tiene un cerebro bien puesto que le sirve de muchas cosas, y por otro lado tenemos a lo que vendría siendo a la Realeza de Inglaterra, a Henry, un Príncipe Gay que ha vivido ocultando por siempre quien es, viviendo bajo un acuerdo de confidencialidad donde estaba su verdadera esencia y que nunca debería ver la luz del sol, pero las cosas no van a ser como el mundo quiere que sean, así que se tienen que aguantar.

One of my favorite things about the movie was Uma, the first few times you see her it looks like she has a stick up her ass that goes all the way to her brain and never lets her relax, then she changes when Alex makes it very clear to her how she is behaving, like the president of a country, and not like her mother, then she changes and becomes a love of a person, especially when the conversation comes where Alex talks to her to tell her that he is in love with Henry, the prince, and that he is actually bisexual, and she comes out to order pizza and apologize for not having a powerpoint presentation about the LGBTQIA+ community, ayno, ayno, she comes out to order pizza and apologize for not having a powerpoint presentation about the LGBTQIA+ community, ayno, ayno, she's a great person, of Henry, the prince, and that in reality he is bisexual, and she comes out to order pizza and apologize for not having a powerpoint presentation about the lgbtqia+ community, ayno, I cry again remembering that scene, it was very beautiful, and it is what many people would like to happen, but no, many times we are the ones who have to explain to our families who we are, when we don't even know it yet.

This movie shows us almost perfectly how impossible it can be to exist when our environment is not suitable for our well being and development, and at the same time it shows us how shitty people can be, but how beautiful the world will be and will be there for you when you need it the most. Henry lived in a completely emasculating and horrible environment, where he could not even see with affection or hold hands with the person he wanted because then he would be reminded of the weight of obligations he has by the family he was born into, and that this was not in accordance with the person he was and that he wanted to show with freedom without any fear. There is a moment where Alex and Henry meet in the middle of a staircase and they embrace and Henry can only fall and let himself be embraced by Alex, I still cry for that moment, it is precious and worth gold, it is worth too much.

Una de mis cosas favoritas de la película fue Uma, las primeras veces que se la ve pareciera que tuviera un palo metido en el culo que le llega hasta el cerebro y que no le permite relajarse nunca, entonces cambia cuando Alex le deja muy en claro la forma en la que se está comportando, como la presidenta de un pais, y no como su madre, ahí ella cambia y se convierte en una amor de persona, sobre todo cuando llega la conversación en la que Alex habla con ella para decirle que está enamorado, de Henry, el príncipe, y que en realidad él es bisexual, y sale ella a pedir pizza y a disculparse por no tener una presentación de powerpoint sobre la comunidad lgbtqia+, ayno, vuelvo a llorar recordando esa escena, fue muy hermosa, y es lo que muchas personas quisiéramos que sucediera, pero no, muchas veces somos nosotres quienes tenemos que explicarle a nuestras familias quienes somos, cuando ni siquiera nosotres lo sabemos todavía.

Esta película nos muestra casi a la perfección lo imposible que puede llegar a ser existir cuando nuestro entorno no es adecuedo para nuestro biniestar y desarrollo, a la vez que nos demuestra lo mierda que pueden llegar a ser las personas, pero lo hermoso que el mundo será y que estará para ti cuando más lo necesites. Henry vivía en un entorno completamente castrante y horrible, donde él ni siquiera podía ver con cariño o tomar de la mano a la persona que quisiera porque entonces le venía a recordar el peso de obligaciones que tiene por la familia en la que nacio, y que eso no estaba de acuerdo con la persona que él era y que quería demostrar con libertad sin miedo alguno. Hay momento donde Alex y Henry se encuentran a mitad de una escalera y se abrazan y Henry solo puede caer y dejarse abrazar por Alex, sigo llorando por ese momento, es precioso y vale oro, vale demasiado.

Alex gives a speech that I wish everyone could get to hear and see, I won't say the context, but there was a moment where the movie would turn into a disgrace instead of a comedy, but no, it has a happy ending, I promise you, and that happy ending makes us cry anyway. One of the many things Alex says in his speech is that people have the right to do with their lives what they want, whether they are people of great social interest or not, that everyone has the right to make their sexual orientation, gender identity, and who they are in a relationship with, or not, public knowledge, and that that right cannot be taken away by people, whoever they are, and that to violate that is a great sign of what a piece of shit you are. I need them to release the three hour version and in those three hours Alex and Henry get their revenge, I'm not crying anymore, now I want blood to run, I hope blood runs in the book.

There's the trailer, it's perfect, the movie is perfect, the cast is perfect, everything is perfect, we just ask for the three hour version, that's all, let us be happy, please.

Alex da un discurso que ojalá todo el mundo pudiera llegar a escuchar y ver, no diré el contexto, pero hubo un momento donde la película se convertiría en una desgracia en vez de una comedia, pero no, tiene final feliz, se los prometo, y ese final feliz nos hace llorar de todas formas. Una de las muchas cosas que Alex dice en su discurso es que las personas tienen derecho a hacer con sus vidas lo que quieran, sean personas de gran interés social o no, que toda persona tiene derecho a hacer del dominio público su orientación sexual, identidad de género, y con quién tiene una relación, o no, y que ese derecho no se lo pueden quitar las personas, sean quien sea, y que violentar eso es una gran señal de la calidad de mierda que se es. Necesito que suelten la versión de tres horas y que en esas tres horas Alex y Henry tengan su venganza, ya no estoy llorando, ahora quiero que corra sangre, espero que en el libro corra sangre.

Ahí está el trailer, es perfecto, la película es perfecta, el cast es perfecto, todo es perfecto, solo pedimos la versión de tres horas, es todo, dejen que seamos felices, por favor.
