(ESP-ENG) Dragon Ball's path to 2026 - Franchise Review!

Even though the years have passed and the great Akira Toriyama has left us, DB is still being talked about. What's the reason for today's post? Well, it was announced that in January 2026 there will be an event called "Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri," which promises to be one of the biggest ever, with the aim of putting an end to the celebration of the franchise's 40th anniversary. This has caused many fans to begin to feel a huge hype for everything that such an event could generate. And of course, not only will the future of anime or manhwa be talked about, but even new video games will most likely be announced.

Cual es el motivo de esta publicación del día de hoy? - pues que se dio a conocer que en enero del 2026 habrá un evento llamado "Dragon Ball Genkida Matsuri" el cual promete ser uno de los más grandes hechos alguna vez con el objetivo de ponerle punto final a la celebración de los 40 años de la franquicia. Esto ha causado que muchos fanáticos empiecen a sentir un hype muy grande por todo lo que pudiera generar dicho evento. Y es que claro, no solo se hablará del futuro de los anime o manhwa sino que muy probablemente se anuncien hasta nuevo videojuegos.

One of the things we could expect for next year is the final release of Dragon Ball Super. After that 131-episode "first season" where we experienced the Tournament of Gods and everything that happened with Goku and his transformations, the appearance of new characters, and a plot that may have been left open, we can expect the announcement of what's next. By "material that could be seen," I understand that the manhwa has several untouched arcs that could see the light of day. I'm referring to the Moro arc, the Granolah arc, and other things seen in Super Hero. Personally, I would like to see a sequel; I really liked DB Super, and I think continuing the story from that point would be very interesting.

Una de las cosas que pudiéramos esperar para el año que viene es que finalmente llegue la continuación de Dragon Ball Super. Después de aquella "primera temporada" de 131 capítulos en donde vivimos el torneo de los dioses y todo lo sucedido con Goku y sus transformaciones, las apariciones de nuevos personajes y una trama que puede que haya quedado abierta es posible esperar el anuncio de lo siguiente. Por material que se pudiera ver entiendo que el manhwa tiene varios arcos que no se han tocado y que pudieran ver la luz, me refiero al arco de Moro, de Granolah y otras cositas que se vieron en Super Hero. Personalmente si me gustaría ver una continuacion, a mi me gustó mucho DB Super y creo que continuar la historia desde ese punto sería una cosa muy interesante de ver.

If we see a return of DB Super, is it possible we'll see more of Daima? - I see it as complicated because I don't think they'll work on two anime or parallel projects. Daima was the most recent we've seen; it was an anime that went from strength to strength, but which I also quite enjoyed because it maintains the essence of DB's beginnings. It was the last thing Toriyama worked on, and he did so by giving us the famous Goku transformation from Phase 4 of DB GT. What I do see as more feasible is a movie about Daima. It's known, or at least expected, that the franchise will announce several films, so yes, maybe Daima's continuity will be reflected in a movie.

Si vemos un regreso de DB Super, es posible que veamos algo más de Daima? - yo lo veo complicado porque no creo que vayan a trabajar en dos anime o proyectos en paralelos. Daima ha sido lo más reciente que hemos visto, fue un anime que vino de menos a más pero que también disfruté bastante porque es uno que mantiene la esencia de los inicios de DB. Fue lo último en lo que trabajó Toriyama y lo hizo regalandonos la famosa transformación de Goku de la fase 4 de DB GT. Lo que si veo más factible que suceda en torno a Daima es una película al respecto. Se sabe o por lo menos se espera que la franquicia anuncie varios films por lo que si, a lo mejor la continuidad de Daima se vea reflejada en una película.

The last film we saw was Super Hero, a truly bad and low-quality film, at least in my opinion. It centers entirely on Piccolo, Gohan, and a sort of Temu Cell that truly left a lot to be desired. This goes along with what I said before: either the franchise releases something completely new or decides to follow Daima's path. I'm a bit in the dark here; it's hard to say anything, but these are just assumptions. The good thing about all this is that we'll actually have something next year, and that's good so fans don't feel so "abandoned" by those currently in charge of the franchise.

La última película que conocemos fue la de Super Hero, un film realmente malo y de baja calidad, por lo menos bajo mi opinión. Allí se centra todo en Piccolo, Gohan y una especie de Cell de Temu que de verdad dejó mucho que desear. Esto va en concordancia con lo dicho antes, o la franquicia saca algo totalmente nuevo o decide seguir la senda de Daima. Acá si estoy un poco a ciegas, es complicado decir algo pero nada, estas son solo suposiciones. Lo bueno de todo esto es que en efecto tendremos algo el año que viene y eso es bueno para que los fanáticos no se sientan tan "abandonados" por los responsables ahora de la franquicia.

I'm not a regular manhwa reader, but I read that there are also plans to revive it after a couple of years of inactivity. I understand there's a plot on hold that's expected to be resolved, so yes, it's also possible that manhwa lovers will receive some good news. The reality is that little is known, but that new things will come, they will. Sometimes the path they decide to take with DB is a strange one. I think fans are, or we are, quite demanding with what they end up offering, so hopefully they don't get too creative when deciding which path to follow, especially with the movies, which generally end up being not bad but difficult to watch. No soy lector frecuente de manhwa pero leí que también se tiene pensado reactivarlo después de un par de años sin movimientos. Entiendo que hay una trama en stand by que se espera sea resuelta por lo que si, también es posible que los amantes de los manhwa reciban un poco de buenas noticias. La realidad es que se sabe poco pero de que vendrán cosas nuevas, vendrán. A veces el camino que deciden tomar con DB es uno extraño, los fanáticos creo que son o somos bastante exigentes con lo que terminan ofreciendo por lo que ojalá no se pongan muy creativos a la hora decidir que camino seguir, sobretodo con las películas que por lo general terminan siendo no malas pero si complicadas de ver. En poco más de 3 meses sabremos más del futuro de Dragon Ball. ¿Que piensan ustedes que podría traer la franquicia? - los leo.

Después de la muerte del maestro Toriyama dudo mucho que haya algo interesante por ver en un futuro en esta franquicia. Sea lo que sea que anuncien el año que viene seguramente será algo que nadie esperaba ni necesitaban en lo absoluto. Sacarán un producto o dos que genere mucho HYPE al momento y mantenga a la franquicia en la cima en ventas y listas en todo el mundo. Eso ha sido así desde esta última década y dudo que esto cambie pronto.

The possibility of the Dragon ball genkida matsuri in 2026 will really happen! I completely concur; and we all need a DB Super sequel to fill in the Moro and Granolah bridges. It would be wonderful to witness the animation of those manhwa plots. I can agree with you on the reservations about more sub-par films but the prospect of something new after Toriyama still generates a tidal-wave of hype. May the lord have good fat news!
