La gente de Blumhouse son especialistas en hacer películas con un alto nivel de suspenso, intriga, tensión y misterio, de hecho diría que esas son sus firmas. En esta oportunidad nos traen un film que si algo tiene es la capacidad mantener la expectación al límite, es una historia que puede que sea super cliché, porque hemos visto cosas parecidas, pero que de igual manera no deja indiferente a cualquiera y es que el espectador puede ser parte de la trama tratando de descifrar quién es la persona que está detrás de todo lo que está sucediendo. La historia es muy simple pero sumamente eficaz, creo que cumple con la intención de mantenerte sentado viéndola.

The people at Blumhouse are specialists in making films with a high level of suspense, intrigue, tension and mystery, in fact I would say that those are their signatures. This time they bring us a film that if anything has the ability to keep the expectation to the limit, it is a story that may be super cliché, because we have seen similar things, but still does not leave anyone indifferent and is that the viewer can be part of the plot trying to decipher who is the person behind everything that is happening. The story is very simple but extremely effective, I think it fulfills the intention of keeping you sitting watching it.

Comenzamos con Violet (Meghann Fahy), una madre viuda que sola está viviendo con su hijo y teniendo una vida normal pero solitario en términos de relaciones o por lo menos eso es lo que se entiende. Esto es por una terrible experiencia que tuvo con su ex pareja de la que sabrán viendo el film. Un día ella decide tratar de empezar a cambiar las cosas y acepta a tener una primera cita después de mucho tiempo. Una vez en el restaurante comienza a experimentar un "juego" extraño y es que de la nada empieza a recibir mensajes anónimos. Al principio no le da importancia hasta que cada vez se van convirtiendo en algo más oscuro y perturbador.

We start with Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother who alone is living with her son and having a normal but lonely life in terms of relationships or at least that is what is understood. This is because of a terrible experience she had with her ex-partner which you will learn about by watching the film. One day she decides to try to start turning things around and agrees to go on a first date after a long time. Once at the restaurant she begins to experience a strange “game” and out of nowhere she starts receiving anonymous messages. At first she doesn't think anything of it until they become darker and more disturbing.

Lo único que les puedo decir que es la cita de Violet no es la persona en cuestión por lo que él se convierte en parte de la trama al tratar de ayudarla a resolver la situación. Llega un momento en donde los mensajes se intensifican al punto de convertirse en personales ya que su hijo, que está en casa, es amenazado. A partir de acá inicia un juego de control absoluto; esta persona anónima, que está en el mismo restaurante que ella, ve y escucha todo lo que hace y dice por lo que escapatoria no tiene. La trama va de esto, de como ella en aras de mantener la cita viva trata ocultarle por momentos lo que realmente está pasando.

The only thing I can tell you is Violet's date is not the person in question so he becomes part of the plot as he tries to help her resolve the situation. There comes a point where the messages intensify to the point of becoming personal as her son, who is at home, is threatened. From this point on, a game of absolute control begins; this anonymous person, who is in the same restaurant as her, sees and hears everything she does and says, so she has no escape. The plot is about this, about how she, in order to keep the date alive, tries to hide from him at times what is really going on.

Como dije la tensión es lo que predomina, el siempre estar a la expectativa de lo que puede pasar y cual será el siguiente movimiento tanto de este anónimo como de Violet. También ayuda el hecho de que uno busca deducir quién puede estar detrás de todo y eso termina siendo entretenido. Como película de suspenso funciona pero más allá de dar miedo lo que genera es angustia porque estar amenazado por alguien de por si ya es terrible pero si se le suma que esta persona está a metros tuyo pues le suma una carga de agobio extra. El film dura hora y media, tiempo perfecto porque no se hace larga ni aburrida, las ves muy rápido de hecho.

As I said the tension is what predominates, always being in expectation of what can happen and what will be the next move of both this anonymous and Violet. It also helps that one seeks to deduce who might be behind everything and that ends up being entertaining. As a thriller it works but beyond being scary, what it generates is anguish because being threatened by someone is already terrible but if you add the fact that this person is just a few meters away from you, it adds an extra burden of anxiety. The film lasts an hour and a half, perfect time because it is neither long nor boring, you see them very fast in fact.

Algo bueno que tiene es un par de giro de trama o los plot twist que sinceramente no me esperaban que pasaran. Esto ocurre hacia el final de la película que es el momento cuando el film entra en sus momentos más cumbres y altos, es cuando la poca acción que hay sale a la luz. No vemos grandes escenas ni mucho menos, creo que no hace falta dada la naturaleza de la trama. Las actuaciones son bastante buenas, Meghann lo borda muy bien, todos los espectros en cuanto a géneros los aborda sin problemas. El resto de personajes pues muy en la línea promedio.

One good thing it has is a couple of plot twists or plot twists that I honestly didn't expect to happen. This happens towards the end of the film which is the moment when the film enters its peak and high moments, that's when what little action there is comes to light. We don't see big scenes by any means, I don't think we need to given the nature of the plot. The performances are quite good, Meghann embroiders it very well, all spectrums in terms of genres are addressed without problems. The rest of the characters are very much in the average line.

Al final estamos ante una película para verla con unas cotufas (palomitas de maíz) sin esperar nada extraordinario de ella. Cumple con entretener, con mantenerte alerta, sentado frente a la pantalla y con unos decentes momentos de tensión. Le doy un 7.5/10. Blumhouse volvió a cumplir, muy pocas veces ellos fallan con sus películas. Les dejo el tráiler por acá abajo.

In the end, this is a movie to watch with some popcorn without expecting anything extraordinary from it. It does its job to entertain, to keep you on your toes, sitting in front of the screen and with some decent moments of tension. I give it a 7.5/10. Blumhouse delivered again, they rarely fail with their movies. I leave the trailer below.

He tenido ganas de ver esta película. Bueno, terminarla porque empecé a verla pero ya era tarde y me estaba quedando dormida y como no quería perderme nada la dejé. Pero hasta ese momento estaba muy interesante.

Si lo es, por lo menos la tensión la mantiene hasta el final. No es una obra de arte pero para entretener está más que bien.
