(ESP-ENG) Havoc | Betrayals, corruption and drugs - Movie Review!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Nowadays there is a widely used term called “aura” which alludes to the characteristics of magnificence of something or someone. There are actors that for a certain type of role have that “aura” and in this case I am referring to Tom Hardy. I am currently watching a series called “Mobland” in which he is the protagonist and his character is a kind of “fixer” of a family. In this film he plays a cop but with a tendency to fix certain people's messes as well. Maybe in terms of interpretation it is very similar but that does not take away how good he is at acting and carrying them out. A story of drugs, corrupt cops and the Chinese mafia, what could go wrong?
We have Walker (Tom Hardy) who is a police inspector very much on the border between being a good or a bad agent. One day a group of people decide to steal a shipment of drugs but this goes terribly wrong, the reason for this is because one of those involved is the son of the one who wants to be the next mayor of the city, Lawrence Beaumont (Forest Whitaker). In addition to all this, the drug is related to the Chinese mafia and their triads, so you can understand the seriousness of the matter. Walker's role is to get through the middle of this storm to rescue Beaumont's son.
The thing is that as he sinks deeper and deeper into this conflict he realizes that certain policemen, well known to him, are also very involved in these moves. As you are reading the plot of the film is simple and basic: there are drugs involved and there are dead people, you have to find out who did what, and that's it. The first thing that is striking is the intensity and the degree of action that this film has, but from the first minute, literally, we are already immersed in a chase where the cars go faster than normal (that's rare) but that still does not fail to surprise. I think that when movies are not so deep they have to compensate with something and in this case they did it with their action scenes.
Speaking of these scenes, I personally found them incredible. There is one in particular that takes place inside a nightclub that is crazy, it has everything: blows, gunshots, bats, knives, any number of sharp objects, martial arts and dead people, lots of dead people. It's a very graphic and eye-catching film because those scenes hypnotize you, you can't stop watching them because if you do you're going to miss something, there are so many things going on in such a short time. It is very easy, according to me, that these things go wrong because in the end everything is a choreography and as such you have to learn it. Well, here all the actors and stuntmen did their homework because these scenes are really the great attraction of this film.
But of course, all this has to be accompanied by a lot of violence for it to work. The film is ultra-violent and is one of those where liters of blood come out of the bodies with abysmal ease. I like this, it's flashy and sells the scenes better. There is a lot of shooting, yes, but there are also deaths in various forms which helps to make it more impressive to look at. The movie doesn't bore, it's perfect for hanging out, 70% is pure action. That if the script has some gaps there, that if it is not credible at times, it may be. But the purpose is not to make a realistic movie, the purpose is to entertain.
Tom Hardy does well, as I said, these roles fit him like a glove. At the acting level it is not an Oscar but the interpretation of the tough guy is achieved. There is something curious and that is that one of the assassins of the Chinese mafia is Michelle Waterson, a former UFC. She gives one of the best fights in the movie. Otherwise nothing remarkable, Forest Whitaker himself does not appear much so there would not be much to say about him. I recommend it, I liked it a lot despite the bad reviews it's getting. I give it a 7.5/10. It's on Netflix and it's just under two hours long. I leave the trailer here.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
