(ESP-ENG) Leave the World Behind - A lot of paranoia!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
If there is a movie that is making people talk, for better or worse, it is undoubtedly this one directed by Sam Esmail, the same of Mr Robot. But not only he is involved in the creation of this production, but also none other than Obama himself, yes, Barack and Michelle, those who once led the most powerful country in the world. I confess that this last fact I did not know, in fact I gave the film a chance because of the cast which is one of immense quality. Having Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon and Mahershala Ali on the same screen is a must see without much thought.
This film can be categorized as a post-apocalyptic film, where human survival is based on being the fittest, with all the implications that this brings. Because, what would you do if you knew that the world was hanging by a thread? - That everything you know no longer exists and that trust and being a good person is a luxury which to put into practice is a great risk? - Well, this is the world in which these people are living. It is a drama full of suspense being also a very intense psychological thriller; I would dare to say that it is one of the films that can make the viewer more tense. But well, let's go and talk more about this new title at the hands of the Obamas, something that is quite curious if you ask me.
The film begins with Amanda and Clay (Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke), an ordinary couple who are immersed in the daily routine. With their two children they decide to shake up that life and go on vacation, a vacation that unfortunately for them and many others will be a total chaos. The thing is that once they are in the house they rented one fine night a couple of strangers appear pleading for help because in the city there has been a blackout and everything is submerged in disaster. This couple claim to be the owners of the house but with no way to prove anything, distrust grows and everything becomes more terrifying and full of doubts minute by minute.
The couple is G.H. and his daughter Ruth (Mahershala Ali and Myha'la Herrold), who from minute one inspire tranquility. As time goes by, they realize that the situation is more complex than they thought at first and apparently the world has entered a situation of no return where, as I mentioned before, there will be no other option but for each person to activate the survival mode. From here we will see how certain things begin to happen that will feed the theory that something really bad is happening and how these people manage to survive and not die in the attempt.
The plot of the film is one of the simplest and most cliché things you can see and this is basically because of the amount of similar films with this theme. What makes it "special" is the absurd amount of tension, the eternal expectation that something is going to happen, that something is watching and watching, the lack of knowledge of the real situation, the distrust of the environment and the way people are portrayed, since there is a clear dehumanization very marked in each character. The latter is key because it is what marks the path and the evolution of relationships as well as a change in behavior motivated by various events that happen to each of them throughout the story.
The film has an aura of conspiracy theories that for many are an open secret, such as the one that the world is controlled by a small power elite that can do and undo as it pleases. What is striking is that this is done under the eyes of the Obamas, could it be that they know something that we do not? or is it simply fiction? - I mention this because it is one of the matrices of opinions that I have read the most about it, for me it is a real nonsense but these things give a lot of publicity. In the same order there is also some "racism" of blacks towards whites in one particular scene. This is also giving something to talk about especially if the Obama's are behind this film. As you can see, it is a film that does not escape from "controversy".
Speaking more technically it must be said that the film is very well made. At the level of effects everything is very well done, the photography is spectacular, the soundtrack, the cinematography, the camera movement is very good, they use to use an angle that gives a touch more of contrariness and feeds the chaos that reigns. The performances for me are pretty average and this is painful considering the great actors that are there; they are not bad but one expects a little more notoriety in them and that they stand out. Julia Roberts is perhaps the tip of the spear, she is a woman who lives always doubting everything, questioning everything and her empathy towards people is limited, I would say that she is what stands out the most.
The rest, as I said, all very average. It's a weird movie and this opinion grows with the ending which left me a little bit confused. It is one that can give a thousand interpretations. It didn't catch me and it's a pity because it had everything to do it, in fact it started very well but then everything is diluted quickly and it seemed to me eternal, very long for how little it ended up being. I give it a 6/10. Technically it's very good but that's as far as it goes. It is available on Netflix and lasts almost two and a half hours. Here is the trailer.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos vemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡A hug to everyone, see you next time!
I got interested to plot of this movie, and 2 and half is way long to watch a movie. I hope I can now get back my netflix subscription so that I can watch this movie..greetings🤗
Two and a half hours is torture for a movie. They shouldn't even make it to 2 hours. But well, I hope you can see it, it is the one that is giving more to talk about.
Cheers!
Kanpai! 🍻
