Spending a vacation with Jesus and Buddha? - anything is possible and this movie proves it. In all the time I've been watching anime I've always come across striking and somewhat eccentric things, I'm not that surprised because that's how this world is, what I never imagined I'd get is to see Jesus and Buddha vacationing, shopping and going to amusement parks in the middle of Tokyo. Thanks to these films is that I like so much to look for “weird” things and see them and thus get out of the conventional because without a doubt this is something very atypical and what I am sure very few of those who are reading these lines have seen.

Pasar unas vacaciones con Jesús y Buda? - todo es posible y esta película te lo demuestra. En todo el tiempo que tengo viendo anime siempre me he encontrado con cosas llamativas y un tanto excéntricas, no me sorprende tanto porque así es este mundo, lo que nunca me imaginé conseguir es ver a Jesús y Buda vacacionando, haciendo compras y yendo a parques de diversiones en pleno Tokio. Gracias a estos film es que me gusta tanto buscar cosas "raras" y verlas y así salirme de lo convencional porque sin duda alguna esto es algo muy atípico y de lo que estoy seguro muy pocos de los que están leyendo estas líneas han visto.

Well, just as you read it, we are in a story that involves two of the world's greatest religious figures, Jesus and Buddha, on an earthly vacation after having so much work watching over their faithful for over 2000 years. They decide to go to Tokyo and rent an apartment to set themselves up as roommates to relax a bit around humans. The funny thing is that they are afraid of being recognized so they always keep a low profile and don't make a fuss. The thing is that because of their nature they sometimes draw attention to themselves and unintentionally get one or another miracle or divine manifestation making them really embarrassed.

Pues así como lo leen estamos en una historia que involucra a dos de los más grandes personajes religiosos del mundo, Jesús y Buda, en unas vacaciones terrenales después de tener tanto trabajo velando por sus fieles por más de 2000 años. Deciden irse a Tokio y rentan un apartamento para ponerse a vivir como compañeros de cuarto y así relajarse un poco alrededor de los humanos. Lo gracioso es que temen ser reconocidos por lo que siempre van bajo perfil y sin hacer mucho alboroto. El tema es que por su naturaleza a veces llaman la atención y es que sin querer les sale uno que otro milagro o manifestación divina haciendo que realmente se avergüencen.

The film itself does not have much depth beyond showing us the coexistence of these divine beings in a totally mundane and materialistic environment. Throughout the story the personalities of each, based on their principles, come to the fore. For example, Buddha is an extremely patient guy who is not fazed by anything, while Jesus is a man who always puts his fellow man first and is constantly seeking his sacrifice for the common good. But of course, the funny thing about this, because yes, this is pure comedy, is that we see these traits in day-to-day situations that they are not used to dealing with.

La película en si no tiene mucha profundidad más allá de mostrarnos la convivencia de estos seres divinos en un entorno totalmente mundano y materialista. A lo largo de la historia las personalidades de cada uno, basadas en sus principios, salen a relucir. Por ejemplo Buda es un tipo extremadamente paciente el cual no es inmuta por nada mientras que Jesús es un hombre que siempre antepone al prójimo y está buscando constantemente su sacrificio para el bien común. Pero claro, lo cómico de esto, porque si, esto es comedia pura, es que estos rasgos los vemos en situaciones del día a día a las que ellos no están muy acostumbrados a llevar a cabo.

It is because of these situations that we see from time to time that for example Buddha is enlightened because he had a moment full of virtue or we see Jesus turn water into wine because he was very happy. It is cool because it is rare to see, the same people who live in the surroundings know that there is something strange with them but do not decipher it and sometimes their behaviors are very particular which makes them end up attracting attention when what they are trying to do is the opposite. Seeing how they act for example when a store has special offers, when they go to a Disney type amusement park or when Christmas comes, an important time for Jesus, is super funny and interesting.

Es por esas situaciones que vemos de vez en cuando que por ejemplo Buda se ilumina porque tuvo un momento lleno de virtud o vemos a Jesús convertir el agua en vino porque estaba muy alegre. Es cool porque es raro de ver, la misma gente que viven en los alrededores saben que hay algo extraño con ellos pero no lo descifran y es que a veces sus comportamientos son muy particulares lo que hace que terminen llamando la atención cuando lo que están tratando de hacer es todo lo contrario. Ver como actúan por ejemplo cuando una tienda tiene ofertas, cuando van a un parque de diversiones tipo Disney o cuando llega la Navidad, época importante para Jesús, es super gracioso e interesante.

As for the visuals, this was in charge of A-1 Pictures, I think there is nothing to say about this studio since we have already said enough. What is noticeable is that the animation is quite rustic, in the good sense of the word. Its style is very cartoonish, it's as if the manhwa had been put an AI to animate it, it's just like that. I like it because it's different, it looks very good and for some strange reason I find it more enjoyable. As for the characters, they are basically the two main characters, although there are a couple of others that help the plot to be less monotonous. In fact there are three children who are always chasing Buda to tease him for being “different”, beyond being pitiful the truth is that the situations are very funny.

En cuanto a lo visual esto estuvo a cargo de A-1 Pictures, creo que no haya nada que decir al respecto de este estudio ya que bastante hemos dicho. Lo que si se nota es que la animación es bastante rústica, en el buen sentido de la palabra. Su estilo es muy caricaturesco, es como si al manhwa le hubiesen puesto una IA para animarlo, es tal cual así. A mi me gusta porque es diferente, se ve muy bien y por alguna extraña razón lo encuentro más ameno. En cuanto a los personajes pues básicamente son ellos dos los principales aunque hay un par de por ahí que ayudan a que la trama no sea tan monótona. De hecho hay tres niños que siempre están persiguiendo a Buda para fastidiarlo por ser "diferente", más allá de dar pena la verdad es que las situaciones son muy graciosas.

I never expected to find this, obviously I didn't know the anime or the manhwa but I'm telling you it's a gem, it's something very fresh and joyful to watch. The film lasts an hour and a half of pure awkward situations, how to be a good roommate, it shows us the value of friendship, of always being aware of others; in the end every thing that happens to them we can take into account as a moral or teaching, however minimal it may be. The film is highly recommended, it is well worth it. Here is the trailer.

No me esperaba nunca encontrarme con esto, obviamente no conocía el anime ni el manhwa pero ya les digo que es una joya, es algo muy fresco y alegre de ver. La película dura hora y media de puras situaciones incómodas, de cómo ser un buen compañero de cuarto, nos muestra el valor de la amistad, del siempre estar pendiente de los demás; al final cada cosa que a ellos les pasa las podemos tomar en cuenta como una moraleja o enseñanza, por muy mínima que sea. Muy recomendado el film, vale mucho la pena. Les dejo el tráiler.
